This is the last photograph that Janet Johnson took before her death on Aconcagua in 1973. Her camera stayed frozen in the glacier until its discovery by porter Marcos Calamaro in 2020. Film Rescue International, which develops old and fragile film, recovered the photographs for the New York Times' piece on Johnson's photography and her death by stabbing on South America's highest peak.
This final photograph, the 24th on her camera, shows the view of the surrounding Andes from high on the Polish Glacier.
