I'm a trans man and I wanna workout since T has been forcefully taken from me (I'd workout with T anyway but now it's more imperative ). I would really like to work my upper body but I'm afraid it'll make my chest look even bigger. I've been told by basically everyone that you can't lose fat in a specific area like that -- is there anyway to avoid this without top surgery? I really wanna make gains without making that area larger than it is...

Hello!
Although working out your chest won’t completely elimate your breasts you will definitely lose some of your chest fat by working out your chest area. There will still be breast tissue, unfortunately, but some of the fat can definitely be lost to give the apperance of a flat chest. I do believe results are dependent on current breast size, but the size can definitely be reduced with chest excercises. Just remember to also work out other parts of your body as well, and since your goal is to “lose fat” make sure to throw some cardio in as well.
A YouTuber I watch who has actually done exactly that is Ty Turner. He’s never had top surgery and doesn’t plan on it, he just works out constantly, especially his chest, and he has the apperance of a flat stereotypical cis man’s chest. He also has a few shirtless videos so you can see the “results”. I’m not sure if he has any videos on his workout plan but his videos are super fun nonetheless. He has “regular” videos as well as trans specific videos if you’re interested.
