#classicmovienight (I’m in such a good mood these past few days to watch some classic films ❤😊)

Tonight I’m watching one of the movies that made Shirley Temple a star the 1934 classic “Little Miss Marker” co-starring Adolphe Menjou, Charles Bickford & Dorothy Dell 😊

1934 is the year that Shirley Temple was introduced to the world 😊 before this movie she already had bit part roles in 6 films before Fox discovered her and landed her a small but very important role in the hit movie “Stand Up & Cheer” a decent film that boosted morale during the Great Depression and luckily it was her breakthrough role because the one thing that many people noticed in that film was Shirley dancing with legendary actor James Dunn in a song called “Baby Take A Bow” the movie was a success & Shirley became an instant sensation and Fox signed her to a contact.

But her first big starring role came from this successful Paramount picture as Marky a role that she auditioned for prior to being with Fox and she ended up winning the part so Fox loaned her out to Paramount and like the previous film the picture was a hit and established Shirley as the huge successful child star that she became it was so good that Paramount wanted to buy out Shirley’s contract from Fox and join their studio but Fox refused

She starred in 5 more films that year with 3 of them as the starring role: “Baby Take A Bow” (a nod to her song & dance number in SU&C), “Now & Forever” her second loan-out to Paramount & “Bright Eyes” her first success internationally all of them became successful and for her achievements that year the Oscars gave her a miniature Oscar called the Juvenile award the first of its kind given to a child star for outstanding achievement (the award was given annually to child stars for the next 25 years) and Shirley was no.8 that year in the top 10 box office draws and she would end up being the top box office star for the next 4 years after that 😊

Classic Movie Night 😊😊 tonight I’m watching the 1942 classic “You Were Never Lovelier” starring Fred Astaire, Rita Hayworth & Adolphe Menjou 😊😊

This is one of the first successful films that Fred Astaire did without Ginger Rogers (of which they did 9 movies together during the 30’s) and it’s 2nd film that he & Rita ever did together with the first being “You’ll Never Get Rich” in 1941 😊

Before these movies came about Rita Hayworth was already becoming a star in her own right with films like her small breakthrough role in the 1939 film “Only Angels Have Wings” starring Cary Grant & Jean Arthur & 1941’s “Strawberry Blonde” opposite James Cagney and after these movies she would go on to appear in some of the biggest movies of her career including 1944’s “Cover Girl” opposite Gene Kelly & of course the 1946 iconic film “Gilda” opposite Glenn Ford 😊

Even though Fred Astaire was very well known for dancing with Ginger Rogers and were always very close friends he did say in an interview that Rita was his favorite dancing partner 😊😊
