Asa and I attended Holiday Matsuri earlier this month. (I drafted this and forgot to post it.. OTL) It’s been a while since we’ve gone to a con, and we met a lot of cool people. Some of our adventures under the cut!
We actually went all three days this time. We cosplayed RenMerry the first day, TeruMoko the second day, and just went casual the third.
We spent a lot of time hanging out at the game room. They had Sound Vortex, which I’d played years ago and really loved. I’m glad I got to play it again! They also had Maimai, which I played for the first time. Amandi had played it in Japan, and it has such a great song selection. We played some of our favorite ButaOtome songs, including Gensou Satellite and Boundless World. One of my favorite Mokou vocals was also on there, Aeternitas Ludology, as well as Warningx3 by Stack which I’ve been freaking obsessed with for the past few months. We also played some Beat Stream which was super fun. We kept ignoring it in favor of Maimai and Vortex but when we finally played it, I was kinda hooked on it.
(Here’s a really bad pic I took of Asa failing at Vortex ♥)
Surprisingly, we met a lot of other Touhou cosplayers and a lot of people recognized us, even as RenMerry. (The times are changing and the truth has come about) I’ve actually never been to a con here in Florida with this many Touhou cosplayers at once. It’s not even that many in hindsight, but it was so many more than we expected! (Yuuka, Yukari, Futo, Alice + plus us)
We met with @aelioradesign on the second day (as well as briefly on the first.) They were super cool and we ended up talking a lot! Surprised because we’re all such introverts. But it was really fun. (Also they made really cute Yuuka sunflower cupcakes, which I made a separate post for on MG!)
We also met @prowlbulk at around the same time. They were also really cool, and realized who we were just because of our cosplay choices. That seriously made me super happy!!! ♥
And onto something less con related.. The hotel we were staying in had a small dining/break room... There was a little projector thing in the corner that projected little red, green, and blue dots everywhere in the room. We had very late after-con microwave dinners in the room. The way it was dark (much darker than it looks in the picture) and empty and felt just slightly off somehow, made it feel very liminal. Honestly it was one of my favorite experiences of the weekend and something I feel like I’ll never forget. (Also on the last night, we had a seance there with microwave chicken nuggets.)
As for con goodies highlights. Unfortunately we never took pics cause we were so tired but... We found two really cute Love Live doujins, a NozoEli and a NozoNico, for very cheap. A dBu CD that was on sale (I actually collect dBu, so it was a really good find.) This really adorable fat bunny plush strap.. (which was.... only 3$!!!) I love it a lot, and I got to use it with my Kaguya cosplay the second day~ Some face glitter, which I’ve always wanted. Asa and I both wore it on the last day. ♥ And my very first pride flag thing, a really cute little heart-shaped reflective pin. I’m usually wary about using pride stuff, because people are rude.. but cons are such a great atmosphere for lgbt+ people and showing your pride, and I love it. I got to wear it proudly on my last day at the con and got a hug from a fellow pan person. It felt very nice and validating. ;u;
