Partner silks with Luna Amaris 👌
To make up for the super blurry video yesterday. We got a surprise session in tonight and decided to add more to this drop, haha. Still working it very slow so that we can get the mechanics locked in. I feel like up to speed is going to be easier because controlling all that is actually quite hard.
Still my favorite duo lyra piece, and I don’t even like lyra for the most part.
So this is what I did during my open gym time this morning, unexpectedly, haha. My hammock instructor was there for her open gym, as well, and we kinda looked at each other and went, “you wanna review some partnering stuff?” And I was so stoked that my back didn’t protest at all!! This is the first time I’ve attempted basing anyone since my injury grounded me in December and took me out of the show.
Since our partnering instructor is still on hiatus and we don’t know when he’ll be back, I think the two of us might be having more experimental times with each other to keep our skills fresh and to work out some new stuff. We promptly went to lunch after this and watched a couple of partnering videos I had been sitting on for inspiration and we have some pretty rad ideas in the works! Here’s to hoping I can perform as a base again soon!
That’s right, I can hold people in the air with one hand. 💪🏻 Also, I had to include the double straddle booty picture, hahahaha. My butt is so much bigger than hers! 😂
Here’s me doing the full cradle choreography for my partnering routine. It’s taken 10 months for me to be able to do the full thing!
My flyer was a lil confused as to which choreography sequence we were doing, so that’s why the beginning is a lil derp, but then we go into the correct sequence. You can kinda hear me calling out the skills to her. Oh, and a friend on lyra next to us starts running her Trans-Siberian routine part way through, so there’s that music, haha.
So I suck at taking pictures/video during rehearsal
No, really, this is kind of a problem when I want to keep up with this blog, haha.
And we had suuuuuuch a good night at partnering!! The flyers remembered to take some video, but us bases are apparently in the zone and too preoccupied with not dropping someone to be bothered with taking selfies, haha.
I was especially in the zone because I learned the end of our “cradle” choreography and there’s some sketchy moments in there where I have to one-arm it with my flyer. Granted, we learn new stuff with the giant crash mat lovingly dubbed Big Mama, but it would still be bad to drop someone on their head. And this particular set of choreography involves a lot of not being able to make eye contact, so I was super focused on my partner. But, apparently I did really well because the flyers all said stuff like I was “a natural,” and the instructor said I didn’t make him nervous, haha. Makes me feel super accomplished!! I’m not the best solo silk performer, but I can toss some flyers around!!!
And while we’re on the subject of partnering, can we talk about how weird, but not weird that relationship is? I would never subject a date/romantic partner to the stuff that my aerial partners have to go through. Like, doing aerial stuff in the summer in Florida makes everyone sweat sooooo bad. I don’t notice it with my partners, but I feel like I smell so bad. And sweat. I wear a bandana so I don’t sweat down onto my flyer, but still, I sweat through my twill tape and clothes where they have to touch me. I don’t wear makeup and don’t do my hair. Honestly, my aerial partners have seen me at my absolute worst, and yet it’s like everyone’s favorite class, haha. I’m sorry guys. I love you. 👯
And this is why v-ups are so important. They are the gateway to great aerial.
