The BIG KID Project | AFANOC

The Big Kid Photographic Project was created to assist the ‘Families And Friends of Children with Cancer Association’ (AFANOC) which raises funds to provide accommodation for the families of young children in hospital receiving long term treatment for Cancer. During her 2012 visit to Spain to perform in concert Dame Kiri was photographed for the project.

"She’s been one of the most approachable people who has ever participated in our photo shoot. She’s very concerned about the problems of children with cancer and their families, and the long time they spend in hospital during treatment. She did not hesitate to pose for us. What we got was a nice smile from a very approachable and kind woman. In fact, the following day, we met her at the Hall of the Hotel Monterrey as she came back from to doing one of the most normal things in the world, shopping for vegetable oil. And without any modesty she smiled and came to us. We needed her to sign the famous “chair” (to be displayed alongside the famous photos) and she agreed to our request immediately. That moment was so funny, one of the best sopranos in the world holding a five litre bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, listening to us and agreeing to sign a chair. She’s a great lady…"
