THE INVITATION (2022) • 5.5/10: We were excited when we saw that a new vampire film had come to theaters, and The Invitation certainly had all the ingredients of a classic vampire film. A delicate maiden lost in her life, tranced by a mysterious and suave suitor, both in an elaborate castle or mansion, surrounded by all the finer things backed by the curse of eternal life. The film had beautiful wardrobe, gorgeous setting, and an aesthetically pleasing set. What lost us was how one dimensional all of the characters were, even our main heroine. This led to the storyline feeling spotty and almost incomplete. The beginning felt like a dragged out corny romance. However when the story brought true vampire drama is when our interest began to peek again. Unfortunately action was very sparse in the film, and more could have made this film very enjoyable. The end was going in the right direction, but it seems like we hit the brakes once making momentum. If they had taken more time to develop a deeper narrative with more twists and turns, rather than the fluff of flirting and conversations that really don’t add anything substantial to the plot, that would have salvage allot of the wasted time. It is a shame because the set design and effects from what little you saw were fabulous and frightening. Sacrificing a PG-13 rating for more detailed savagery may have also given this film a little extra something. • #theinvitation #kkreaper #lunareaper #afrightfuleve #horrormovies #moviereview #horrornews #horrorreview (at Cinemark Hazlet 12) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch6TnTdMGrg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
