Hi there, I got it from qwertee. 

I got 3 t-shirts from them so far, it’s always worthwhile checking their site for the current designs their selling (though I have to admit that I usually get alerted by a friend who is obsesses with their stuff whenever they do something Iron Man, which is insanely helpful). I try to post here when they have something cool, but didn’t with the last one since I was out of the country for a funeral and just about managed to order mine :(

Demographics in Fanfiction

A little more than a month ago, I posted a link on my blog to a survey that sought to collect data on fanfiction demographics and perceptions about slash and mpreg fics in order to enhance a paper I was writing for a queer theory class. I also promised that I would share those results here, so here is post one of two (post two about perceptions can be found here), which looks at some of the demographics of fanfiction readers. If you are interested in reading my paper, you can message me privately [Warning: I am considerably critical of mpreg fanfiction, as well as tropes and ships that I myself frequently read and enjoy, so you would read at your own discretion].  

Also, do keep in mind that because I am a Marvel blog, this data may not be representative of all fandoms and fanfiction. 

Those participants who were under 18 were excluded due to issues of informed consent, which resulted in a total sample size of 222 respondents. 

My data supported the perception of fanfiction readers as mostly female; however, the common assumption that they are mostly heterosexual was not shown to be the case in this sample. While this is encouraging news, this could be a result of sampling on a website like Tumblr, where queer individuals are more heavily represented and out. 

Slash pairings are the most frequently read. This could be a matter of preference, but could also be representative of the dearth of femslash fiction. 

While many have read/do read mpreg fics, it is generally not a trope that garners much passion.

Thor VS. The Lobster

Dedicated agentromvnoff who expressed the desire to read a fic about Thor cooking lobster in her tags, which inspired me. If anyone else wants a quick domestic!Avengers fic like this you can message me and I'll see what I can do.

"I am not sure about this creature Man of Iron. Do you really eat these?" Thor asked Tony. The Avengers were having a summer barbecue and somehow Thor ended up being in charge of the lobsters while most everyone else played volleyball.

"Yes Thor, they're lobsters. All you have to do is drop them in the boiling water," Tony replied with a roll of his eyes.

"But is that not cruel? I would greatly doubt you would enjoy your death being so slow and agonizing. Should I not cut off their heads first?" Thor frowned at the cooler filled with wiggling lobsters. The little creatures reminded Thor of one of his favorite Asgardian animals that would roam near fresh water lakes. Though those were closer to the size of elephants and rarely used their claws.

"Fine, if it makes you feel better you can stab them and THEN put them in the pot. But hurry, the volleyball game will be over soon and I promised everyone a lobster to go with each of their burgers." Tony grabbed the bag of burger buns, the original reason he had come in, and then headed back outside to the grill. Thor resumed frowning at the cooler.

"Okay, lobsters," Thor tried the word for the first time, "Now would be a good time to make peace with your mortality." And with that statement, and a slight sigh, Thor reached in to grab one of the crustaceans. But one of the more rowdy ones had broken the rubber bands that had been applied at the grocery store to keep his claws shut. And neither Tony or Thor had noticed. That is until said lobster grabbed Thor's hand when he reached in. Thor definitely noticed then. Thor's hand shot back out of the cooler, but the lobster had a firm grip and was still attached.

"Aye! Valiant effort my warrior friend! But I am afraid you are no match to the Son of Odin and the Man of Iron's boiling pot!" Thor grinned at the animal clinging to his hand. There wasn't much pain, Thor had endured much worse after all. It wasn't until Thor leaned in to inspect his opponent and the lobster's free claw grabbed his nose that Thor yelped.

Taken aback Thor suddenly yanked the animal from his nose and threw it to the floor. The lobster didn't move for a moment, but then started to skitter away. Thor dropped his hand back down to his side and that's when he noticed Mjolnir. He had summoned the magic hammer in his panic. Embarrassed Thor set the hammer down on the counter and watched as the little animal looked for freedom. "All right you brave beast. You have won your freedom fairly."

"Thor, why don't you have a lobster with your burger?" Natasha asked as she sat down to lunch. "One of these creatures you call lobsters fought with bravery and strength. I believe he has earned his right to freedom." Everyone just stared at Thor in confusion. "Meaning," Tony interrupted the confused silence, "That the lobster somehow managed to pinch Thor's nose and because of that Thor respects it too much to eat it. Instead that delicious lobster is sitting in a big glass bowl full of water and Thor plans on taking it back to the ocean after lunch."
