See the Trailer for Frank Zappa’s “Roxy: The Movie”

To steal your phrase from the Grateful Dead: there was nothing like a Frank Zappa concert.

For those not lucky enough to have seen the real FZ live, here comes the next-best thing: “Roxy: The Movie,” featuring Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at Hollywood’s Roxy Theatre in 1973.

The two-minute trailer is in itself astounding, with snippets from “I’m the Slime” and “Dickie’s Such an Asshole” among other numbers. Zappa’s compositions are complex, his words are compelling and his playing is cacophonous. As the narrator says, the movie will feature Zappa “bending notes and minds with his bare hands.”

“Roxy: The Movie” will be released Oct. 30.

“I’m beyond thrilled …,” Zappa’s son Ahmet said in a statement to Rolling Stone magazine.

“This movie rocks so hard, I think old and new fans will agree.”
