Today is New Years Eve and I’m feeling the pressure. I am resisting the impulse to freak out over the lack of preparation I’ve done for blankpaper. I intend to launch in January, but I have yet to fully conceptualize my first video, let alone begin production. The perfectionist in me is screaming. I have plans to do a self-portrait video, as well as a New Year’s series comprised of a New Year’s resolution video, a New Year’s tip video, and an Introduction to blankpaper 2016 video. That adds up to one video each week in the month of January. Quite daunting from where I stand. I need to organize and collect myself, something that’s quite difficult to do under the daily grind. I think if I can just create a clear production plan for my self-portrait, I’ll begin to develop a bit of confidence regarding my channel/blog. I am so inspired by creators like Rachel Nguyen of That’s Chic, Aileen Xu of Lavendaire, and Chriselle Lim of The Chriselle Factor (I just noted that they all happen to be Asian-American women...interesting). They all have a different set of qualities that I really admire and would like to reproduce in my work. I think I want to enter the realm of high-production creators, but keep a hand in the pool of low-production relatability/trustworthiness. I intend to purchase some equipment in the first third of the year to help me achieve that, such as a new lens and paper backdrops. A vlogging camera may even be in my future.
So. What is it that I want to do with this platform? (I’m sorry that I’ve made you into my current soundboard, but you happen to be a great listener). I want to be genuine. I want to express myself in a way that I haven’t been courageous enough to do before. I also want to share my passions and interests, whether that be environmental sustainability or the ethics of cultural exchange. It may sound boring, but trust me, my goal is to make these topics both captivating and accessible to a diverse audience. I also want to emphasize a certain aesthetic and mood as well, including elements of minimalism, asmr, and overall youthful appeal.
I quite enjoy a humorously diverse array of things, from 80s synth pop to the character impersonations of Sarah Jones. I would love to incorporate these interests into my blog and channel. How? I have yet to figure that out. I want it to be a sort of embodiment of me, a diary of my existence and influence. Maybe, for the first time ever, a full representation of my personality, fun yet responsible, youthful but mature, and chock full of creativity and conviction. We’ll see how this goes.
