working on a hollanov olympics fic (did way more research than im used to doing for fics but it's actually been really fun!) and decided to make That the priority due to the time (tho there's this one short hr wip of mine ill probably post soon since it's nearly finished) cause i really wanna post it while the olympics are still happening and i want to add it to this fun open event for hollanov i found a few weeks ago!
I dont have many followers, and the few i have are mostly for byler (still planning on posting my byler wips but taking it slower! Dont wanna rush them) but if anyone who ships hollanov and wants 2026 winter olympics fics of them happens to see this... id love a lil cheering/encouragement in the comments or asks🥹!
I've always been very "hey, if even just ONE person reads my fics, that's awesome" truther and i stand by that but im putting a lot of love into this specific fic (im italian-cuban and Months ago i was thinking that i never get to write fics set in Italy - or Cuba- so i wanted to try really hard this year to post at least 1 set in Italy and 1 in Cuba and i have an idea for the Cuba one but i was really struggling with the italian one due to the specific fandoms im in and then i joined the HR fandom and now the olympics are happening here and hudcon visited too and it was great timing all around so this is really fun for me! I also hate Milano which i find hilarious lol) so a lil encouragement while i work on it would go a long way!
I wont spoiler much but i think yall have guessed by now that Ilya has canadian citizenship by now in the timeline of the fic and is playing for Team Canada.
I also mention a few irl athletes here and there but it's a hollanov fic, not an rpf fic, so they're more casual mentions both for fun and for the setting of the overall thing. I also make up some athletes for convenience ofc. The athletes that i give the biggest cameos to are Marie-Philip Poulin, who's the captain of Team Canada for female ice hockey and plays for the Montréal Victoire in the PWHL (first year that they get to participate since theyre fairly new), and her wife Laura Stacey who plays on the same team as her both in the olympics and in the PWHL! Poulin is also from 1991, the same age that Shane and Ilya would be in this fic!
This is also the first year since Sochi 2014 (very important to the canon of HR and to this fic) that NHL players get to join the olympics! (The years in between, it was usually college athletes that played for the male ice hockey teams).
Other lil fun facts in the fic are the outfits (will use the same ones that Team Canada got irl) and the food they're serving at the dining hall LOL! Shoutout to all the olympian athletes doing vlogs!

smth smth Chappell Roan blowing up "over night" after YEARS of hard work in the industry while she had day jobs like waitering and working at donut shops and such but never giving up on her singer dream and one of her songs (one about moving away and the difference of being queer in a small vs big city) being the one played at the Golden Globes to introduce Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie who were working waitering jobs up until like 8 months ago but have been chasing their acting dream for 8 years and never gave up and now became famous "over night"
The entertainment industry is SO hard to enter for anyone who's not a nepobaby, it just gets me teary-eyed seeing fresh new faces finally getting recognised because of their honed in skills and raw talent
