It was a strange thing-- finding himself in a second life, a fierce determination burned as fire in his belly to save the life of the dwarf king and his nephews-- but his feeling of- wrongness, as it were, caused him to watch his companions more closely than before, though out of concern before anything else.
They were settled around a fire, and Bilbo found himself sitting a little further back- not exactly mingling with them as he was content to see everyone alive and well- the warmth that filled him was tainted, plagued with worry of failure. He’d not given any indication to his nature- having lived this life before, he did not reveal this to his companions. He had signed onto the Company without hesitation, he had thrown the most magnificent feast and left very specific instructions for the care of his home in his absence. He’d not come back again to Lobelia trying to take his things!
A deep breath- Bilbo shifted his back against the rock behind him, trying to get comfortable. It was easier to stay back and watch them, trying to keep the guilt from eating him alive. They’re alive, it was a relief that reflect on the hobbit’s features, a fond, small smile as he watched his Dwarves-- no, not his, not yet. Their journey had only just begun.
