everybody in fandom could have so much more fun if they started playing around with aromantic identities more. why is it that the only time a character is headcanoned as aromantic, they're headcanoned as aroace. why is it that the only aspec microlabels ever included in headcanons are the asexual ones. there are so many characters that would be infinitely more interesting to interpret as aromantic or aro-spec. ask me about it. ask me about it

ngl realizing im demisexual hurts like a motherfucker cuz now I feel like all the aces who said I was wrong about myself and that I can't be aroallo have a point.

they need to invent a demisexual that isn't on the ace spectrum cuz I still don't feel ace ngl.

honestly... speaking as someone who doesn't identify with any sexuality specifically, and feels more aroallo than aroace despite a sexuality that would probably fall somewhere in the ace-spec, you really do not have to use any labels you don't like for yourself.

it was cruel of others to insist your way of communicating your experiences was wrong. they don't matter, and frankly, probably aren't worth caring about - if you wouldn't trust them to have good intentions, would you trust them to care about you and why you identify how you do?

does their opinion matter? or does your personal way of relating to yourself matter more?

friendly reminder: alloaros don’t oppress aces on the basis of their sexual orientation because of the unique way being aromantic interacts with being allosexual. even if one decides to separate those two, they don’t exist in a background.

same reason why straight trans people don’t oppress non-straight people on the basis of their orientation bc transness inherently effects the straightness on a privilege vs oppression scale.

i know this is meant to be a mostly-positivity blog but i’m tired and in a mood and this has been eating at me: so much god damn content focuses on aromantics ONLY in our (theoretical) relationship to asexuality. even as an aroace this makes me nauseous because i’m more attached to my aro label than my ace one bc being aro affects my life a lot more.

i scroll through the aro tags and most of the posts are about aces AND aros. and there’s not necessarily anything WRONG with including acespecs and arospecs in the same post. but i think the lack of aro-only content just kind of speaks to the need for blogs like this one. aromanticism are seen as an attachment/companion of asexuality in a way that is really demeening towards and erases ppl who are allosexual or are like me!

i don’t want every post on this blog to be about aroaces, or having the phrase “aro/ace” (something i’m not really big on since it always feels like it’s lumping us into the same group when it’s not always applicable but that’s nitpicking)

also, don’t use aspec when you mean ace, and don’t use ace when you mean aspec. it’s aromisic.

tl;dr: if you make positivity posts for aspecs, don’t be aromisic, and make an effort to diversify the aspec posts you make!

Why isn’t the alloaro flag just the green/white/gray/black flag...? Since aro is just about romantic attraction so I’d think that the aro flag already implies alloaro. Idk if this makes any sense sorry 😬

Hey there!! No worries, I totally get it!

The alloaro flag exists for the same reason things like the nonbinary flag exist (bc enbies are trans, that’s what the white stripe is for).

Alloaros are pretty consistently talked over/left out of the aro community in preference to aroaces, and face a lot of stigmatization because of their identity. So in order to claim a space and have a rallying flag, they created the alloaro flag! The green and gold flag was created by Arotaro.

The aromantic flag (the green one) is representative of the whole aromantic community, including greyros, aroaces, quoiros, lithros, alloaros, and every other arospec orientation. While alloaros are included in the aromantic flag, it’s just a more specific one to set them apart and give them their own part of the community, since they’ve historically been left out.
