Epilogue - Billy's PoV of that night
He felt it before he saw you.
A sharp, piercing pain slicing through his ribs like shrapnel. It wasn’t like any pain he knew — he’d bled enough to know that much. No, it was something deeper, something primal and unbearable. It caused him to falter on his way to the bar and left him feeling lost.
But then he saw you, and he instantly knew; you were the source of the pain. But, regardless of the ache, he found himself drawn to you, like a sailor drifting toward a siren's call.
His alpha side began to stir the moment he caught your scent; subtle over the other scents around you, but intoxicating nonetheless. The betas near you couldn’t smell it, they had no idea what you were. It was like it was all just for him.
(Like you were just for him.)
At first he thought you were timid, a shy little little omega, out of her depth in front of the scary alpha. The world wasn't made with your comfort in mind. No, there were those who wanted nothing more than to just scoop up and keep a sweet little omega like you. Not that he wanted to keep you — attachments were a weakness he couldn't afford.
He just wanted you long enough to sate the alpha hunger inside of him.
But you weren't shy. Not even a little. You were a firecracker, and it only took him a few minutes to realise it. Some idiot had taken you for granted and broken your heart. Someone had been stupid enough to let you out of their sight.
Their loss, his gain.
The moment he dared reach for you, letting his fingers gently brush against your cheek, the world tilted on its axis. He saw the split-second your guard slipped, the way you inhaled his scent before catching yourself, and the ache inside him flared until it almost floored him.
The pain inside of him only got worse the brighter your smile became, and he desperately wanted to ask if you felt it too, if you knew what the pain was.
And, finally, you let him buy you a drink, giving him a reason to stay by your side.
"Do you come here often?" You asked, taking a step back so you didn't have to crane your neck to look at him.
"Maybe a couple of times a month," he said, trying to keep his tone casual despite the way his heart was pounding, "why?"
You smiled playfully. "Just wondering if you're the sort of guy who comes here looking for hook-ups."
He bit back a grin of his own. "Why? Are you offering?"
You didn't flinch at the brazen comment, you just studied him for a moment. "I don't mess around with alphas."
He should have walked away then, but the smile on your lips held him in place, and the spark in your eyes ignited something inside of him. Maybe you didn't want what he wanted, but just being near you... that was nice too.
"Trust me, omega," he said, daring to lean closer, unable to stop himself, "the last thing I want to do is mess around with you."
Your gaze flickered over him, taking him in, slowly and deliberately. An unexpected feeling filled him, the urge to be seen — and not just for what he was, but who he was. Who he could be for you.
"Then what do you want?" You asked, teasing but curious.
He didn't hesitate. "Just to be here with you."
Again, there was that look, that unasked question between you; could you feel the ache? Was the distance between you hurting you as much as it was hurting him?
One drink became two, then three. You asked about his work and he kept it vague — private security, some military contracts — and you just smirked over the rim of your glass, and told him it sounded mind-numbing.
When a table opened up in the corner of the bar, he took your hand and led you there. Even after you were seated, he kept hold of you, gently brushing his thumb across your knuckles, trying to soothe the ache. You didn't even seem to notice. You were just happy to sit there, letting him hold your hand.
Time slipped by. Billy learned what he could about you; about your job, your studies, and the way you didn't let being an omega hold you back. And he —
Fuck. He wanted you. Not to own you or possess you like so many other alphas might, but he wanted to give you the safety to keep being you.
He wanted you just as you were.
"Do you want to get out of here?" He asked. You blinked in surprise, and he quickly added; "it's too crowded. I know somewhere better."
"Another bar?"
He smirked at you. "Yeah. Get your mind out of the gutter, omega."
When you agreed he was sure his heart skipped a beat, but he didn't hesitate, didn't give you a chance to potentially change your mind. He led you out into the night, not daring to even consider what the next few hours might hold.
You fell into step beside him, walking so close that your arm brushed against him, and Billy felt the last of his resolve starting to fray. His alpha wanted in a way he'd never experienced before, and it was starting to become clear that you were different, special.
"Are you okay?" You asked. "You're being really quiet."
He hadn't realised that minutes had passed since he'd last spoken, that all of his energy was going into keeping his alpha at bay. But you broke his concentration. He stopped walking, his fingers tightening around yours so you couldn't slip away.
"What are you —" you stopped as he reached for you, his free hand cupping your cheek. Then he leaned in and kissed you.
It was soft and chaste, sweet even — if anything Billy Russo did could ever be considered sweet. His alpha side was left howling when he pulled back, only lingering against your lips for a few seconds. The tender kiss wasn't what he wanted or needed, but he didn't want to scare you.
He couldn't risk you wanting to walk away from him.
"What was that for?" You asked, sounding a little breathless.
For a few seconds he was rendered uncharacteristically lost for words and simply stared at you, not sure that he had an answer. But you weren't pulling away, weren't wrenching your hands from his, you were just staring right back at him.
"Because I wanted to," he said.
He expected you to baulk but, again, you surprised him. You moved without warning, stepping closer and raising yourself onto tiptoes, letting your lips graze his in the ghost of a kiss. It was over before it really started and, before Billy could comment, you were tugging on his hand.
"C'mon, it's freezing out here," you said, turning your face from him so he couldn't see your smile.
Ten minutes later, you were tucked in a booth in a quieter bar and he couldn't keep his eyes off you. You put up a valiant attempt of pretending not to notice, casually sipping your drink but, every so often, you glanced at him.
"You're staring," you finally said.
"I am."
"Why?"
He caught your wrist and eased your glass down to the table. You didn't flinch when his hands framed your face and you didn't turn away when he leaned in to kiss you. This time, there was no restraint. It wasn't some chaste, fleeting moment of contact. No, it was hungry and desperate, but still only a fraction of what his alpha half wanted from you.
His tongue pressed against the seam of your lips, demanding entrance, and you opened for him, letting out the sweetest little sound.
The feeling of your hands grasping his shirt, pulling him closer spurred him on, and had him thinking of more. There was so much he wanted to do with you, to you. The longer he was with you, the more intense the longing became.
When he finally pulled back, you looked dazed, your chest rapidly rising and falling as you struggled to catch your breath. He watched you, his thumb softly brushing against your cheek, unable to stop touching you.
It took a few seconds, but he recognised the exact moment when reality came crashing back down. There was a look of concern on your face, some deeper worry. Billy had a feeling he knew what it was.
"Why don't you have an alpha?" He asked.
It wasn't the most polite question to ask an omega, especially one as young as you, but he was certain there was more at play than you simply had never been asked.
Your gaze dropped and his heart threatened to break. You took a breath and steeled yourself before answering. "I don't like alphas."
"Why not?"
"Because my dad is an alpha, and he always treated me and my mom like shit for being omegas," you answered, reaching for your glass and taking a drink. "He kicked me out the moment I turned eighteen because he didn't want to have to deal with another omega in the house."
Rage quickly started to simmer inside of him, and you noticed. You tensed and shied away for a moment, but something inside of you softened when you realised that he's anger wasn't aimed at you, it was on your behalf.
"What about you?" You asked. "Must've been nice growing up an alpha..."
He let out a wry laugh and caught you off guard again.
"Not really," he said, before explaining his childhood to you.
Something changed in you then, and it wasn't something he wanted to think about. He didn't want your pity, didn't need you to feel sorry for him. It was in the past, and he'd moved on. He'd made something of himself.
You were silent when he finished, not sure what to say.
You surprised him by moving, sliding out of the booth and getting to your feet, reaching to tug at his hand. "Dance with me."
"Dance?" He repeated, then shook his head. "I don't dance."
"Don't or won't?" You asked, smiling a smile that made him melt inside.
"Can't."
You laughed and pulled his hand again, not stopping until he got to his feet. "Just follow my lead."
And he did. He followed you across the bar to the little dance floor, the ache inside of him starting to quiet the moment you pressed your body to his and wrapped your arms around him. He felt out of his depth until you started to move, your body swaying against his, your hips provocatively rolling.
He was certain you were doing everything in your power to drive him insane. When you turned in his arms, grinding your ass back against him, he dared to press his face to your neck, inhaling your scent. You didn't flinch, didn't falter at the brazen act. You just kept dancing.
"You're driving me insane," he confessed, following the soft mutter in your ear with a nip on the lobe.
"Good."
"I knew you were trouble the moment I laid eyes on you."
"You've got no idea how much trouble I am," you said, tilting your head to the side, giving him access to your neck again.
More, his alpha demanded, and Billy was happy to oblige.
"I'm going to spend the whole night finding out," he promised, giving in to his alpha and running his tongue over your gland.
You trembled in his arms and let out a soft, purely omega sound that went directly to his cock. You were perfect. Everything about you was perfect, and he had to fight to keep himself from sinking his teeth into your gland, right then and there on the dance floor.
After a few more songs, you pulled him back to the bar, keeping yourself pressed tight to his side. Not because you were playing the part of a subservient omega, trying to please an alpha, but because you seemed to want to soothe whatever was broken inside of him.
No one had ever clung to him the way you did.
After a couple of drinks (you insisted on shots) Billy pulled out his phone and took a picture of you. Evidence that the night had happened, he told you. And, a few minutes later, your phone was out too.
The pair of you started to document every little thing. You seemed to become bolder, almost playing for the camera, letting him record you as you kissed, as you finally pressed your nose and lips to his gland.
"You smell like coffee and dark chocolate. So nice..." you murmured as you nuzzled against his neck.
"Omega..." It was supposed to be a warning, but he didn't have the strength to stop you. He was hanging on by his fingertips now, his control almost completely out of his grasp.
You didn't stop, didn't pull back, and as you kissed his neck, your scent got sweeter. He could smell your desire, your want, your arousal. His control finally snapped.
He tugged you back towards the booth, urging you to sit before sliding in beside you. His lips found yours and your legs subtly shifted as you pulled him closer. He trailed kisses along your jaw and back to your gland, while his hands slowly began to creep up your thighs and beneath your skirt, not stopping until he reached your panties.
"Your panties are wet, omega," he muttered, easily finding your clit through the lace.
More. More. More. The voice in his head demanded, and Billy was done denying himself. His fingers slipped into your panties to touch your slick-coated skin.
"Is this what you want?" He asked, not sure what he’d do with himself if you said no.
"Yes. I want you."
"You have me," he said. "You'll always have me."
"Promise?" You gasped as he slid a finger inside of you.
"I promise."
His cock twitched as you let out a breathless whine, but he didn't have time to savour the moment. He started to move his finger, listening closely to every hitch of your breath, every little moan, learning how to touch you, how to give you the pleasure that you deserved.
He already knew that he needed more than this, but he fought against the urge to drag you into the bathroom, or outside to some dark alleyway. No, when he fucked you, he needed it to be in his bed. He needed to be able to take his time with you, to spend the night inside of you, until the longing ache in his chest was finally sated.
You angled your head, offering access to your gland, and Billy took full advantage. He couldn't get enough of your sweet scent; warm honey and vanilla. Pressing his face to your neck, he inhaled deeply and, again, his cock gave another uncomfortable twitch.
Who were you? How were you doing this to him?
The pain in his chest was all but forgotten as you started to roll your hips, demanding more. He'd never had an omega like you before. Your scent got thicker as your arousal grew and, when you started to moan, he claimed your lips, kissing you to keep you from being discovered.
He urged you further into the booth, away from prying eyes as he slipped a second finger inside of you; not entirely for your pleasure, but so you came before he made a mess in his pants.
You made the most beautiful noise when you came, and Billy knew from that moment that he'd never grow bored of the way your body trembled as you came undone.
When he tried to pull away from your lips to speak, to ask if you were okay, he found himself pulled back by fingers tight in his hair. You kissed him as if you needed just as much as he needed you, even as his fingers slipped from your body.
Every breath he took was you, and Billy knew that he'd passed the point of no return. He needed to have you, completely and utterly.
He'd never wanted to claim an omega before, he'd never been the sort to want a mate. But you... he couldn't live without you, not now he'd had a taste.
When you finally pulled back, he could see the conflict on your face — what you wanted versus what you thought you knew. Billy didn't dare say anything. You had your reasons not to trust alphas and he wasn't going to try and push you. He'd show you that he could be trusted. One way or another, he'd show you that you belonged together.
"Another drink?" He offered.
You stayed for three more drinks, until the lights came on and everyone was ushered towards the door. The whole time, you stayed pressed to his side, your arm tight around his waist.
Outside, you paused but didn't pull away from him. He could tell you were thinking about what came next; were you going to go home alone or were you going to stay with him?
"Don't walk away," he said softly, the words slipping out before he could think to stop them.
"I — I don't want to," you confessed just as quietly, swaying slightly as you moved to see him better.
(Drunk, he reminded himself. You'd been drinking. He didn't want to take advantage.)
"Stay the night with me. We —" his alpha started to howl in protest in his head, "— we don't have to do anything. I just don't want tonight to be over."
You considered his words, and those two seconds felt like a lifetime. He could see you thinking, fighting against yourself, and the pain inside of him threatened to return. Then you kissed him and the whole world fell silent again. His hand curled at the back of your neck, holding you, feeling like he'd die if he let you go. And you were holding on just as tight.
(You felt it too, you had to.)
"I want you," you muttered against his lips. "All of you."
"You've been drinking, and I —" he started and you silenced him with another kiss. "I just want to be sure that you —"
You took his hand and started to pull, taking control like you had so many times throughout the night. He let you lead him off the street and into an alleyway.
"What are you doing?" He asked as you dropped to your knees in front of him. Then your hands started to fumble with his belt, rendering the question ridiculous. He couldn't help but pull out his phone and take another picture, loving the way you smiled up at him.
As you took his cock in your mouth and proceeded to give him the best blowjob of his life, Billy could only stare down at you, his eyes fixed on yours. A silent promise passed between you; he'd never let you go. You were his.
Every gasp, every moan you let out caused him to shudder, resisting the urge to take control, despite his alpha half demanding more and more. He let you set the pace, let you prove your point. You wanted this. You wanted him.
(And Billy wanted so desperately to be wanted.)
"Omega, I —" the warning wasn't necessary, because you had no intention of pulling away, even as he started to come.
The second he was finished, Billy pulled you back to your feet and kissed you deeply, muttering promises into your mouth about how he was going to spend the rest of the night inside of you, worshipping you, making you his. You whined in response, eagerly returning the kiss.
Bundling you into a taxi was something of a blur. You remained pressed to his side for the whole ride, his lips on yours, your hand in his.
There was no way you didn't feel what he felt, no way that you weren't consumed by it in the way that he was.
You stopped only for a moment to gawk at his building before he eagerly pulled you inside. He barely made it through the lobby before his lips were on you again. He couldn't stop kissing you, couldn't stop touching you. The need inside of him was reaching a fever pitch.
"I wanna push the button," you said, gripping the waistband of his pants, letting him walk you backwards into the elevator.
"You've pushed enough buttons," he said, his control gone.
He pulled out his key and slotted it into the panel, and the elevator started to move.
His attention quickly returned to you, pressing you back against the wall as his hand slipped beneath your skirt again. There wasn't enough time to do anything but teasingly touch you, but he didn't care. He just needed to have his hands on you.
You almost stumbled as you stepped out of the elevator, distracted by his penthouse. It was a reaction he was more than used to, and he gave you a moment to process it, even though all he wanted was to drag you to his bedroom.
"You live here?" You asked.
"Yes — do you like it?"
"It's —" you shook your head and gave him one of those playful grins, "— it looks like it's a nightmare to clean."
Billy laughed, feeling the thing in his chest give a sharp tug. Most people saw his penthouse and only thought about one thing; money. But there you were, your attention already completely back on him, making silly jokes.
You were perfect. Every little thing about you was perfect.
And, finally, he realised what was happening. He understood what the whole night had been.
You were fated. Destined to complete each other.
It suddenly all made sense in the most terrifying way possible. You were his and he was yours. But how was he going to tell you that? How could he convince you that he needed you to stay — not just tonight, but forever?
"Do you want something to drink?" He asked.
"Only if you've got champagne," you said, still smiling.
"Of course I have champagne. What sort of rich person do you take me for?" He said, grinning.
"I was joking!" You laughed as he started to pull you through his penthouse, pausing only to let you shrug off your jacket and kick off your shoes.
Whether you were kidding or not didn't matter. Billy grabbed a couple of bottles of champagne from his mini-bar and led you into the bedroom. He let go of your hand and you flopped back onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling while he popped one of the bottles.
"This is insane," you told him. "I'm not usually like this."
"Well, I'm glad you're making an exception for me."
"No, I mean —"
"I know exactly what you mean," he interrupted. "I feel the same."
You stared at him for a second, seeming both lost and found all at once. That one look was all the confirmation he needed; you felt it too. He didn't think you'd figured out exactly what it meant, but knowing that you felt it was enough for now.
He let you pluck the bottle from his hand and lift it to your lips, the sharp motion causing the champagne to bubble and spill out down the front of your dress. You laughed, and so did he.
"Let me get you a towel —"
"No need," you said, handing back the bottle as you stood.
He watched, speechless as you pulled your dress off and threw it to the side.
"Fuck," he muttered, unable to stop himself from drinking in the sight of you. "You're perfect. Every fucking inch of you is perfect."
You stepped towards him, pressing yourself against him and kissing him again. Nimble fingers pulled at the buttons of his shirt and helped relieve him of it, while his lips migrated from your and started to explore.
"You taste like champagne," he murmured against your skin.
"You like that?" You asked.
He gave a hum of agreement only for you to pull from his grasp, and take hold of the bottle again, pouring some of it down you, letting it run from your collarbone, down to your chest. His lips were back on you in an instant, licking and sucking at your skin. He pressed closer and closer, needing to eliminate any space between you.
The backs of your legs knocked against the bed, and you fell back down. Billy followed after, neither of your caring where the bottle had gone. His body caged yours on the bed while your fingers slipped into his hair again.
"You're driving me crazy," he muttered as he kissed the tops of your breasts, resisting the urge to tear your bra from your body. "You don't know what you're doing to me, how much I want you."
"I want you too," you confessed.
His lips returned to yours, and he continued to fight against what he wanted in favour of savouring the moment, and enjoying this first night with you.
(Because it was the first. There would be more.)
You squirmed beneath him, getting comfortable and letting him settle between your legs.
He felt like a teenager again, making out with you on his bed, rocking his hips every now and then to let you feel the effect that you were having on him. He didn't move again until he felt your fingers pulling at his belt.
As much as it pained him to pull away from you, Billy got up and took off his pants, and took a moment to snap a couple more photos on his phone as you pouted from the bed.
"I hope you're planning on keeping those pictures private," you said.
Stripped down to his boxers, Billy climbed back onto the bed and over you. "No one will ever get to see you the way I see you."
The words and the possessive tone clearly caught you off guard, but he didn't give you a chance to respond. He kissed you again, and continued kissing you until you finally pushed him away.
His breath caught as he watched you getting on your hands and knees for him. You were presenting. You wanted him. You wanted his alpha. And, when you confessed you'd never had an alpha, Billy's brain almost short-circuited.
The first time was like nothing he'd ever experienced before. Even his alpha fell silent, letting him take things slowly, letting him claim your body and show you how good he could make you feel. The sounds you made when he was inside of you were like nothing he'd ever heard before, noises that would haunt him the rest of his life.
And your body... fuck, you felt like you'd been made just for him, and he couldn't imagine ever wanting anyone else.
"Billy — alpha — fuck!" You cried out as he drove into you.
"Mine," he dared to mutter. "You're mine."
He couldn't remember ever coming so hard, his hands gripping your hips, holding you up, keeping you close as your head lolled forward onto the pillow. And, when he collapsed beside you, he could see from the glazed look in your eyes that you'd completely surrendered yourself to your omega half.
Even then, even after finally having what he'd been craving the whole night, he still wanted more. He couldn't keep his hands off of you. But you couldn't keep your hands off of him either.
It started with a breathless kiss and, the next thing he knew, he was inside of you again, this time with you on your back, letting him watch every flicker of pleasure that crossed your face. Your lips parted with every moan that escaped you, and he tried to commit the sight to memory. You were beautiful, perfect in every way, and he didn't understand how you were his.
He tried to show you, tried to prove his worth by making you come, over and over, until you were a trembling wreck beneath him. And, when he was done, he gathered you in his arms and held you tight.
But it still wasn't enough. Not for Billy. And, not for you either, as it turned out.
Billy was content to hold you, to ignore his own desires in favour of letting you rest — it was a lot, and he was sure you were tired — but he didn't try to stop you when you crawled onto his lap. There was a lazy smile on your lips, and it was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen. It was enough to make his heart ache, but with a different kind of pain than before, the kind of ache that felt a lot more like love.
"What are you doing, omega?" He asked softly, brushing your sweat-damp hair away from your eyes.
"I want you," you answered, reaching down to grip his cock, giving it a few gentle strokes.
"You're insatiable," Billy joked.
"And you're not?" You asked, squeezing his cock. "You've been hard for the last ten minutes."
"Can you blame me? I've got you in my bed, the last thing my dick is going to do is stay down."
You rolled your eyes at him, and he felt like something was tearing open inside of him. He needed to keep you, needed to find a way to make you stay with him.
"Oh, fuck, Billy —" you gasped as you lowered yourself onto his cock and started to ride him slowly, sensually.
"You're amazing," he said, unable to keep himself from staring at you.
He let you have complete control of the moment, let you take and give everything that you wanted to. The pain inside of him threatened to return when he realised what it was, what was happening; you weren't fucking him, you were making love.
His arms tightened around you as you kissed him, writhing on his lap.
"You're perfect," he muttered against your lips. "You make me feel complete..."
Billy saw the moment everything fell into place for you, the exact second when you realised what this was. And, his heart threatened to stop the second you offered your neck.
You wanted him to bite you, to claim you. You begged him for it, and Billy didn't have the strength to deny you. It was all too fast, but he sunk his teeth into your neck regardless, and felt completely overwhelmed as the claim snapped into place between you.
"Alpha!" you whined as you came, your fingers twisting in his hair again.
"Mine," he grunted as his own climax washed over him.
You stayed on his lap when you were done, your head on his chest, exhausted. You'd have a lot to talk about in the morning but, for the time being, Billy was content to let you rest.
After all, you had the rest of your lives to figure things out...
A/N : So, as with the Red Ribbon, I kind of regret doing this as a short thing because there's so much more I could have done. That said I'm glad it's over and I'm going to have some time to recover from writing long form stuff for a while. Either tonight or tomorrow I'm going to post a little thing about doing prompts/suggestions for being over October as a smut/kinktober thing, so keep a eye out for that. And thank so much for reading this, and all the lovely comments, as ever I really do genuinely enjoy reading everyone's reactions to things I write, and you continued support means so much to me!
As always I love and appreciate every like/comment/reblog and keyboard smash of love. Thanks so much for reading! Hope you all have a great weekend!
If you'd like to be tagged, please let me know! Otherwise new chapters will be posted around 7:30pm GMT on Fridays.

Chapter Five
Space.
He had promised you the one thing you needed. Or, rather, he'd promised you the next best thing to what you needed. What you actually wanted was to be rid of his claim, but space would have to do.
Not that it helped.
If anything, knowing that you weren't going to see him only made things worse.
After getting dropped off at home by his driver, you changed your clothes and headed to work. Shelly was there, waiting to give you the third degree, but the moment she saw you, she knew that things hadn't gone well. She didn't push too much, and you didn't tell her how you'd essentially let him spread you on his desk like a lunchtime snack.
You forced yourself to ignore the ache in your chest, the pain that felt like your ribs were being broken, one by one. It only got worse, and you hated that you knew exactly how to stop it — you hated him for having that much power over you.
More than that, you hated that you'd given in, only to be proven right about him. He wanted to own you, wanted to register you as his and take over your whole life.
You barely slept that night and, when you woke, the pain was unbearable. Something was wrong, something familiar but, at the same time, completely new. Your skin felt hot and your joints ached. You struggled to focus your vision as you staggered from your bedroom towards the bathroom.
It wasn't your heat. It couldn't be — the last one was less than two weeks ago — but it was what it felt like.
There was a pack of suppressants in the medical cabinet. You hadn't taken them in months. You'd preferred not to when Kyle was still in the picture and could take time from his studies to be with you.
You took one and splashed some cold water on your face before stumbling back out of the bathroom.
"Hey, I was gonna order some —" Shelly's voice was piercing and caused your head to throb, "— holy shit, are you okay?"
She was by your side before you could respond, her hands gripping your arm, keeping you upright.
You ended up back in your room, perched on the edge of your bed with Shelly standing over you, her hand pressed to your forehead. Then her thumb pulled beneath your eye and she stared at you, trying to figure out what was happening.
"I'm fine," you said. "I'll email my lecturer and take a sick day. I think I just need to sleep..."
Shelly bought it for all of two hours, until she found you on the floor by your bed.
"You're burning up," she said as she helped you back up. "Have you taken anything?"
"Suppressants," you said, your voice dry and scratchy.
She looked at you for a moment more then sighed.
"I think it might be a reactive heat," she said, pressing her hand to your forehead again.
"A — what?"
Of course, you'd heard of reactive heats before, but they were rare, and only happened in very specific situation, and usually to omegas who had preexisting conditions. Not you. If there was one good thing about your omega side, it was that it was regular; four days of heat every four weeks. Nice and predictable.
Shelly gave you that look, the one that told you that you weren't going to like what she had to say. "You must not have completely consummated your mating..."
"What?" You wanted to scream but didn't have the strength.
"It should pass, but it's not gonna be nice. It's gonna be worse than a normal heat — that's why your suppressants didn't help." She paused for a second. "Maybe you should ask him to help, he —"
"No. I don't want him anywhere near me."
She tried to argue, reminding you that it had been years since you'd endured a regular heat alone, and this was going to be a lot worse. But, no matter what she tried, you refused. She stayed with you, pressing a cold damp cloth to your forehead until you fell asleep.
Over the next few hours, you had fitful sleep, waking up every now and then, more dazed and uncertain. It was getting worse, and the concern on Shelly's face only deepened with every passing hour.
A noise woke you in the early evening but you barely had the strength to lift your head to look for Shelly when you realised she wasn't there.
Your door opened and, before you could even understand what was happening, Billy was at your bedside, dropping to his knees. He brushed your sweat-damp hair away from your face and tenderly pressed his hand to your cheek. Your eyes struggled to focus on him, but you knew it was him from his scent alone. The burning inside you turned into an inferno at the rich aroma of your alpha.
"You — you did this to me..." you managed to say.
"I'm sorry," he said softly, his hand leaving your cheek to grab the cold, wet washcloth Shelly had left. "Let me help you. Let me fix this."
"No, I don't want —"
"It doesn't have to be me. I won't touch you if you don't want me to," he told you with an unquestionable firmness, pressing the washcloth to your brow. "I can take you to an Omega Centre and have you sedated until the worst of it is over."
You shook your head. "No. I don't want that either."
"Please, just let me help you. Let me do something..."
You didn't have the strength to argue or tell him to go. Every breath you took was him, that unmistakably alpha scent simultaneously causing you to burn with need and settling the part of you that ached. Before you knew what you were doing, your hand was on his shoulder, gripping at his shirt and pulling him closer.
"What do you need?" He asked.
"Closer."
That one word had Billy moving, helping you shift back on the bed to make space for him to sit beside you. He wrapped an arm around you and pulled you to his side, letting you press your face to his neck.
Common sense told you it was wrong to indulge him, to let him think that you wanted him in any way, but there was no sense to be found in any of it, just a feeling of want that you couldn't control. Giving in to that want quickly started to settle the raging torrent of emotions inside of you as if some part of you had been longing for this, longing for him. Needing him in a way that was too terrifying to even consider.
At some point he pulled you onto his lap — or, maybe, you put yourself there. Either way, you were draped across his body, your nose pressed against his gland while your hands gripped his shirt, ensuring he couldn't pull away from you.
You managed to lift your head to look at him, your vision blurred by the intensity of your heat.
Billy reached for you, brushing your damp hair away from your eyes again. He held your gaze, and a hundred unspoken offers and promises lurked in his dark eyes. He wanted to help you, wanted to care for you. He wanted to do everything he was supposed to do as your alpha.
Despite your pushing and in spite of the way you'd been treating him, he still wanted to to be your alpha, and your omega wanted to let him.
You'd been fighting that side of yourself for days now, and it was starting to become clear that you were never going to win.
"Who are you?" You murmured against his neck.
"Huh?"
"I... I don't know anything about you..."
"Oh." That one little syllable carried far more pain than you expected it to. "What do you want to know?"
"Anything... everything."
His arms tightened around you and you felt his chest shudder as he sighed.
"Well, I was born here in New York," he started, running his hand up and down your back, soothing you. "Not in the city — in Albany. My mom, she... she safe haven'd me at a fire station, so I don't know much more than that."
You didn't lift your head when he fell silent. Of course, you wanted to know more, but it seemed almost cruel to ask.
"I grew up in foster care," he continued. "It wasn't the best... especially when I presented as an alpha. As you can probably guess, they were pretty glad to get rid of me the moment I hit eighteen."
"Was it hard — being an alpha without anyone to help you?"
You could remember vividly what it had been like for you with your mother's help after you presented as omega, you couldn't even being to imagine what it must have been like for him as an alpha with no one to support him.
"Yeah," he answered, then fell silent for a few seconds. "There aren't many alpha kids in foster care, and they didn't have the funding to do much of anything except keep a spare room where they could put me..."
"They... locked you up?"
Something started to scream inside of you at the thought. He must have felt so alone, so afraid, and you couldn't stand it. You couldn't stand the thought of anyone doing that to him.
Billy shrugged it off, but you could feel the tension in his body and smell the bitterness that had crept into his scent.
"They had to keep the other kids safe..."
While juvenile alpha ruts weren't sexual in nature, they could be emotional and violent. Normally an older alpha would help temper youngsters and keep them in line to stop them from going feral, but Billy had been left alone to burn through it.
Was that why he'd claimed you? Was his alpha side untamed and out of his control?
"Who kept you safe?" The question slipped from your lips but you were in no right mind to regret it.
"I kept myself safe," he answered.
"But you were just a boy..."
"I learned to handle it on my own."
"... you shouldn't've had to. You —"
"Hey, I'm supposed to be the one worrying about you right now," he said lightly. You didn't have to see his face to know that he was smiling.
You were silent for a few minutes, eyes closed, letting his scent settle you. "Did you tell me? About all that, I mean?"
"Yeah. I told you about my childhood, then you told me about yours."
"Why?" You asked. "Why would you trust me with any of it?"
His body shook beneath you as he laughed and the hand on your back pulled you closer, held you tighter. "Because it's you."
"I don't understand..."
"I know," he said, "but you will, I promise. Now, try to get some rest."
The part of you that wanted to fight and rail against the alpha that you believed had trapped you was silent, allowing you to relax in his arms. It felt secure, safe in a way you weren't sure you'd ever really experienced before. You stopped fighting the omega part of you and allowed yourself to fall asleep in his embrace.
Your eyes fluttered open when the pain started to intensify again, his scent no longer helping to take the edge off. Fingers gripped his shirt, pulling him closer, as if that might help. It didn't. Your grip became so tight that a button popped off his shirt.
"Hey, whats —" he stopped as your body turned rigid on his lap.
Your eyes were wide, staring at his exposed skin around his collarbone, the dark colouration. A frenzied worry filled you when you realised what it was; bruising. He was hurt. You immediately started to pull at his shirt, tearing off more buttons and revealing more bruises.
"What are you —" he started but trailed off as you pressed your hand to his bare chest, over a particularly nasty looking blue-black mark.
"You're hurt."
Inside of you something started to wail, and you quickly pushed his shirt from his shoulders, exposing his torso.
"It's okay," he said, trying to soothe your panic.
"No..."
Your hands slipped over his chest and shoulders, frantically searching every inch of his skin. Seeing him injured rattled something inside of you and made the ache in your chest return tenfold. You hadn't realised how bad it was in his office yesterday but, now you could see it, you couldn't shake the sickening worry that filled you.
(He was yours and he was hurt.)
"Omega," he tried again, taking hold of one of your hands and pulling it from his chest, "I'm okay. Its just a bit of bruising."
Your fault — it was your fault that it had happened. You'd distracted him by turning up at his office while he'd been in a training exercise and he'd been hurt.
His words fell on death ears.
Your omega half was distraught — so distraught, that you didn't think to pull away or refuse him when he took your face in his hands and kissed you.
It was a steady show of control from your alpha, a gesture meant to reassure you. He was fine. He had you. There was nothing to worry about. He kissed you until he felt you start to relax, the frenzied panic finally draining from you.
When he pulled back, your eyes caught his and you realised that he was yours, that he was inexorably tied to you, and nothing would ever change that. You were exhausted from fighting yourself, from trying to squash the omega part of you that was burning up your body from the inside out in protest. She wanted her alpha. And you didn't want to deny her anymore.
He could help you. He could silence the worry inside of you and stop the awful aching in your chest, and you decided to let him.
"Please," you murmured. "Help..."
He looked at you, equal parts surprised and confused, needing a moment to realise what you were asking. "Are you sure?"
You couldn't find the words, so you reached for his hand and pulled it to your bare thigh, pressing it down just beside the edge of your panties. You didn't even stop to think about how slick you were — how slick you'd gotten just from inhaling his scent.
An animalistic, alpha sound vibrated through his chest as his fingers pressed against the ruined fabric. Then, a moment later, your panties were gone, torn from your body.
You mewled as his fingers slipped between your folds, running through the slick. Your back arched and you pressed into his touch the second his fingers found your swollen clit. He started with slow and teasing circles, even though teasing was the last thing you wanted.
"Please —" you murmured.
Billy shushed you. "Just try to relax."
There was something about his voice; the calm but commanding way he spoke that had your omega half instantly settling. You had to bite your lip to keep yourself from moaning yes, alpha.
Your head dropped to his shoulder again, nose to his neck, breathing in his scent.
Pleasure started to slowly coil inside of you, each shift of his fingers teasing you higher and higher.
You pushed him off you, causing him to land on his back at your side. He laughed and — fuck, how you loved that sound. Your body swayed a little as you lifted yourself to hover over him and pressed a kiss to his lips. Then you got yourself comfortable on your hands and knees.
For a moment, Billy just looked at you, biting back a smirk.
"Are you presenting for me, omega?" He asked.
"What do you think?" You asked with a smirk of your own.
He moved slowly and your gaze dropped to his boxers, catching sight of the growing bulge there.
"Have you ever presented for an alpha before?" He asked, skimming his hands over your pantie-clad ass.
"No."
"Did they never ask you to?"
The question caused your cheeks to burn. "No, I — I've never been with an alpha before, only betas."
A rumble sounded in the back of his throat and he grunted, "fuck."
"Is that — is that bad?" You dared to ask, suddenly feeling self-conscious.
"No," he quickly reassured. "It's not bad at all. It just means we'll have to take things slowly."
Moans started to easily spill from you — from the slow shift of his fingers and from the new memories he'd managed to shake loose.
He touched you like he knew every intimate detail of your body, like in that one night you'd spent with him, he'd managed to learn it all. He kept rubbing your clit, driving you to a slow, almost lazy orgasm. And, as you came, he kissed you, telling you without words that he was in complete control.
His fingers didn't stop, instead growing bolder as you pawed at him, gripping his shoulders and holding him close, no longer concerned by the bruises littering his skin.
You gasped his name as two fingers slid inside of you and started to move, desperate to give you everything you needed. You moaned and writhed, letting him set the pace.
The ache was gone, but you had no time to think about it. All you could think about was Billy and the pleasure that he was stoking inside of you. Your omega half got louder and louder, until you finally relented and allowed it to take charge, to indulge in everything her alpha wanted to offer.
You cried out as he notched the tip of his cock inside you. His grip on your hip stopped you from spilling forward and kept you from pulling away from him as the feeling got more intense.
"Billy," you gasped.
"I know," he groaned. "Trust me... just relax, it'll feel so good, I promise."
He moved with a slow caution that seemed out of place after everything, but you knew it was for your comfort. It almost felt like too much, like he'd never fit but, at the same time, it felt good. You wanted more. Finally you started to understand what it was about alphas that drove other omegas crazy.
You jolted when his fingers found your clit, rubbing teasing circles and causing your arousal to spike. You got so slick for him, letting him slide deeper and deeper. Your head dropped as the discomfort gave way to something else, something almost primal inside of you, something purely omega. Suddenly you understood what it was to present and submit to an alpha, and you realised that you'd been wasting your life with Kyle.
"You're doing so well, omega," Billy said, confident and in control. Entirely alpha. "That's it..."
A gasp spilled from you when he finally hilted. He stilled, giving you time to adjust. His body leaned over yours, his chest against your back, his hand beside yours on the mattress, caging you beneath him. His lips found your neck again he started to trail kisses along your gland. He waited until you started to move, awkwardly trying to grind back against him, letting out increasingly desperate little whines as his finger continued to stroke your clit helping you adjust.
"Please," you finally moaned, your frustration getting the better of you.
Billy lifted himself to his knees again and pulled back his hips in one fluid motion until just the tip of his cock remained inside of you, then he slid back in to the hilt. You cried out his name as he started to fuck you with long deep strokes, making your feel every inch and every movement. It was enough to make you forget about every other man you'd ever been with, enough to make you keen and whine, enough to satisfy that part of you that often felt neglected. Your omega.
Another orgasm crashed over you as more and more of that night started to come back. You had wanted him so badly, you'd ached for him, even then. And, you were starting to realise that, if you'd remembered it all the morning you woke up in his bed, there was no way you would have left him.
You'd wanted it, wanted him. Though you still couldn't remember why he'd claimed you, you were starting to understand how it could have happened.
"Billy," you murmured softly against his neck, trembling in his arms. "I want you. Please..."
His fingers slipped from your body, leaving you with an empty ache. Instead of giving you what you wanted, Billy pulled back, catching your gaze. There was uncertainty on his face, but you couldn't blame him for that, not after everything you'd said and done over the last few days.
"Please," you said again.
When he still didn't move, you untangled yourself from his arms and rolled onto the bed. You barely found the strength to lift yourself onto hands and knees, but you did it. You presented yourself for your alpha, and it was all Billy needed to know that you were serious.
He moved slowly, giving you time to reconsider as he slipped out of his pants and boxers. You dared to glance over your shoulder, and bit your lip at the sight of him; his bruised naked body, his fingers giving his cock a couple of sharp strokes. You kept watching as he crawled onto the bed and positioned himself behind you, just like he had that night.
But, the moment you felt the tip of his cock nudge between your slick folds, you turned your head away, staring down at the pillows.
"It's okay," he said softly, as if reading your mind, "I'll be gentle."
One hand gripped your hip while the other stayed on his cock, guiding him into you. You braced yourself but still gasped and mewled when you felt him start to penetrate. True to his word, he moved slowly, pausing any time he felt you tense or tremble. But, by the time he was buried inside of you, any nervousness that you might have felt had completely evaporated.
He started to move in slow, deliberate thrusts, letting you feel every single inch of him. And, when you started to move with him, he picked up the pace.
"Billy," you moaned.
"That's it omega, let me take care of you."
He took control, setting the pace and making sure your mind wasn't given the chance to stray. He easily pushed you to another climax, then another, until your body was trembling and your arms threatened to buckle beneath you.
When you couldn't take anymore, his arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you up to kneel on his lap as he continued to drive into you.
At some point you'd started to moan and babble — Please. Yes. Billy. More. So good. More. More. More. — and he gave you everything that you asked for, taking care of your every want like an alpha was supposed to.
You came for a third time before his movements turned rougher, more frenzied, and you realise he was chasing his own orgasm. When he came, it was with your name on his lips, muttered against your gland between kisses. He softly laid you on your side and pulled your back against his chest.
You whined as his knot started to swell, causing a dull ache inside of you as you adjusted.
"It's okay," he muttered softly, pressing more gentle kisses to your gland.
The slow movements of his hips soon stopped as his knot locked into place, trapping you together. You felt his cock pulse and twitch inside you as he started to come. More whines spilled from you at the sensation, but it wasn't shock or worry that slowly washed over you. It was a sense of calm. It felt right, and the heat that had been burning through you was already starting to subside.
"That's it," he cooed, letting his fingers slip between your thighs to find your clit again. "You're doing so well, omega. Just relax and let me take care of you."
He knotted you, and you could feel the continuous pulsing of his cock inside of you. It was enough to make you purr — something you'd never done for a man before.
When his teeth scraped over the mark he'd left on your neck, you found yourself flashing back to that night again.
"You're amazing," he said breathlessly, staring at you like you were the most perfect and beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
His lips grazed yours and you pushed forward, eagerly kissing him. There was something about him, something that made you ache and long even though he was right in front of you, and deep inside you. There was an undeniable pull, a feeling of want that you'd never experienced before.
You writhed on his lap, riding him slowly, sensually. You made love to him as you kissed and he muttered against your lips, telling you how special you were, how you made him feel complete. you'd spent hours like that; with him inside of you, unable to keep your hands off him
It was like something snapped into place inside of you. Some broken, empty part that you'd never dared hope would be filled, suddenly felt complete because of him.
Fated.
That was it. That was why you couldn't stop, why you couldn't stand the thought of pulling away from him.
Your fingers gripped his hair, pulling back his head, forcing him to look at you as you presented your neck to him.
"Omega..."
The dark warning in his voice was enough to cause your hips to stutter. You knew what hid behind that warning, the temptation you were presenting, but you could also tell from the way he was looking at you that he wanted it. He felt what you felt, and he knew what this was, what you were to each other.
"Please," you moaned.
It was fast, too much far too soon, but you already felt an ache inside of you, the emptiness threatening to return if you couldn't be bound to him.
"Are you sure?" He asked, chest shuddering under the weight of it all.
"Yes. Please... I feel like I've been waiting my whole life to find you."
"I feel the same way," he said softly. "But we have all the time in the world, we don't have to rush —"
"Time won't change it. It's fate — you're mine."
"And you're mine."
You tipped your head to the side again, feeling a strange sort of clarity despite the alcohol. You wanted it. You wanted him.
His lips closed over your gland. You came the moment you felt his teeth break the skin and the sensation of being claimed filled your body. It was overwhelming and euphoric in a way you couldn't describe. Your climax crashed over you as you felt your connection to him deepen.
"Alpha," you whine, fingers fisting in his hair, holding him against you.
Once he was sure that the claim had taken, you felt him run his tongue over the mark, soothing the wound.
"Mine."
"Yours." You agreed.
"I — I remember," you said softly. "I remember everything."
He let out a a sigh of relief and you felt his chest shudder against your back.
"It's okay," he said, his fingers still running teasing circles over your clit, "we don't have to talk about it now."
"We're — we're..." you struggled to say the words, struggled to focus as his teasing fingers caused your brain to misfire.
"Fated," Billy finished the thought for you. "I'm yours and you're mine."
"I... I asked you to claim me..."
"You did."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You wouldn't've believed me."
He was right. All you'd done since waking up in his bed was act like he must have tricked you, but now that you could remember that night, you could remember how special it had been, how you'd felt like you'd found your missing piece.
"I —" you didn't know what to say.
"It's okay, we can talk about it when you're feeling better," he said softly.
His finger continued to draw sparks of pleasure from your body, keeping your mind blissfully blank and keeping the last spikes of pain at bay.
"I'm sorry I didn't remember," you said in a sleepy whisper, exhaustion threatening to claim you.
"We have our whole lives to figure it all out."
You didn't respond. You fell asleep on his knot, trembling as his fingers exhausted you with pleasure.
By morning the fever was gone. Just like Shelly had predicted, it had been a short heat and it had been remedied by your alpha. You still ached, both from the fever and his knot, but you also felt a strange feeling of calmness wash over you. Now that you could remember that night, you understood why you'd let him claim you — not only because you were fated, but because he'd made you so happy.
But, as you turned to tell him all of that, you realised that he wasn't there.
He was gone.
Panic filled your chest and, if you'd been able to think about anything else, you might have wondered if you were feeling what he had felt the morning you left him. You stifled a sob as you sat up and awkwardly climbed from your bed.
You paused only to pull on a oversized shirt to cover yourself before staggering out of your room.
As you rounded the corner, you spotted Shelly standing by the window.
"Where is —"
And then you saw him, perched on the edge of the sofa across from Shelly, nursing a mug of coffee, and looking more than a little exhausted.
A sob slipped out and you covered your face with your hands, equal parts relief and embarrassment filling you. He'd stayed. He was still there.
A second later, strong pair of arms wrapped tight around you and you were pulled against his chest. His scent instantly calmed your worry, but it was impossible to stem the flow of tears once they started to spill.
"It's okay, I'm right here," he told you. "I'm not going anywhere."
You sobbed in his arms, finally letting it all out. He held you tight, letting you cry until you were done.
When you finally lifted your head again, Shelly gave you a knowing look.
"You knew... you knew we were fated all this time," you said. Shelly nodded. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"You wouldn't have listened," she said, shrugging. "Don't look at me like that. We both know how stubborn you are..."
You were too tired to argue, so you just sank against Billy's chest again, clinging to your alpha.
A/N : So, that's technically the end of this one. Like I said, there is a 'final' part of this, but it's going to be Billy's PoV of the night they met, just to fill in some of the blanks (and because I'm not as ready to let this one go as I thought I would be, even though I've managed to tell the story that I wanted to tell 😅) Anyway, hope you've enjoyed this one. Also I've had a loooong week, so if any silly typos slipped by I'm sorry.
As always I love and appreciate every like/comment/reblog and keyboard smash of love. Thanks so much for reading! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Chapter Four
You didn't sleep that night. Not really.
After 30 minutes in a hot shower, scrubbing your skin raw to get rid of his scent, you had climbed into bed. Your eyes closed and you found yourself assaulted with flashes of that night, memories of Billy. And, despite your frustration and anger, your body rebelled against your mind, longing for him. Aching for him.
The pain became sharper, like a knife sliding between your ribs and into your heart.
Why did wanting him hurt so much?
No matter what you did, no matter how you tossed and turned, you couldn't escape thoughts of him. The ghost of his touch lingered on your thighs, between your legs, inside of you, and whenever you let your mind stray to that moment in the car, you found yourself overcome by a shameful arousal.
What had he done to you? How had he reduced you to this needy mess?
Music blared around you as you settled back. Your legs shifted, subtly telling him what you wanted. He barely even looked around to make sure you couldn't be seen in the dark corner of the bar.
His lips returned to your gland as his hand crept beneath your dress.
"Your panties are wet, omega," he muttered against your neck, his fingers finding your clit through the wet lace.
He wasted no time in slipping beneath the fabric and touching bare, slick-coated skin.
The embarrassment was visible on your face as he lifted his head and looked at you.
"Is this what you want?" He asked.
"Yes." Your breath caught as his fingers stirred between your folds. "I want you."
"You have me. You'll always have me."
"Promise." The demand left you as a gasp as a finger slid inside of you.
"I promise."
The memory left you with more questions than answers — why did you want him? Why couldn't you stop yourself when you were with him?
Shelly was already in the kitchen when you got up, and immediately started filling a mug of coffee for you when she saw you.
"That good, or that bad?" She asked.
You huffed a sigh, not wanting to think about the events of last night.
"So, there's no sexy, half-naked alpha in your bed?"
"Sexy? Really?" You asked, rolling your eyes and taking the mug from her.
"I thought you were having problems with your memory, not your vision," she said, shrugging. "Don't look at me like that. You can hate him all you want, but that alpha is a 10."
Leaning back against the counter, you made a show of ignoring her comment in favour of sipping your coffee. You didn't want to think about Billy — you just wanted five minutes where you could pretend that your life wasn't falling apart.
"Oh, I'll have the money I owe you on Friday, I just need —"
"What money?"
"For rent."
Shit. Your rent had been due four days ago. You'd meant to go and see your landlord to ask for a few extra days, but Kyle had broken up with you, and everything else had just... happened.
"I haven't paid the rent yet, I thought that you —"
"Well someone has," She said. "I went to ask Mike to let us off until Friday, but he said it was already taken care of."
Billy. Your blood ran cold at the thought. Had he paid your rent?
Of course he had. Why waste time even questioning it? But why? Dread coiled in your stomach at all the possibilities — control, ownership. Maybe he was getting sick of pretending like you had a choice in all of it.
"I'll fucking kill him," you muttered.
It took a second for Shelly to put it all together. "Okay, you need to tell me what happened last night."
And you did. In excruciating detail. Every time you tried to skip something or leave it vague, Shelly pressed you for answers. Fortunately, after years of lewd conversations, it wasn't too painful to tell her everything — she would never judge you, no matter how terrible your choices were.
At the end of it all, she demanded to see the bracelet. You hadn't even thought about taking it off. Truth be told, it was so delicate you barely noticed it was there.
"Holy shit, I know you said he was rich, but this must be worth thousands." Again, she managed to sound jealous rather than concerned.
"I don't know what to do," you confessed softly. "I keep remembering parts of that night and how much I wanted him, but now I... I don't know how I feel or what I want."
"You need to talk to him."
"I have. Weren't you listening, we talked over dinner and —"
"No, you need to really talk to him." She said, and when you opened your mouth to argue, she held up a hand. "All you've done is tell him you don't want him."
You bit the inside of your cheek to keep yourself from arguing. She was right. (She had an annoying habit of always being right.) All you had done from the start was tell Billy it was a mistake and that you'd never be his.
If he hadn't kept pressuring you, if he'd given you space and time, maybe...
You weren't sure.
"I know you never wanted an alpha, but maybe he's not like your dad," Shelly offered. "Maybe he really does just want to take care of you."
You remained silent and uncertain, the longing ache in your chest becoming more acute the more you thought about him. It felt like part of you was dying, like your omega part was withering away to nothing, dying a slow death without her alpha.
"I don't need —" you started to protest.
"Have you looked in a mirror lately? You look awful — you have since that night. I don't think you can keep ignoring your bond..."
You looked like shit because you were tired, you rationalised. And you were tired because you were too annoyed to sleep.
"It's not that easy. Whenever I'm with him, I..." you didn't want to finish the sentiment but, after everything you'd just told her, you knew you didn't have to.
"How do you feel about him?" She asked.
"Like I don't even know him."
"Maybe that's where you need to start; try to get to know him and maybe you'll remember why you wanted him that night."
"Well, I don't even know how to find him, so..." you trailed off into a shrug, returning your attention to your coffee.
Perhaps, if you really put your mind to it, you could remember how to find his building, but given the way things kept getting heated between the two of you, the last thing you wanted was to be in his apartment with him. He would turn up again at some point. At least, you thought he would.
(What if he didn't? What if everything you said last night had been the final straw? What if you had to spend the rest of your life in pain?)
"I know where you might be able to find him..." Shelly said, handing you her phone.
"Anvil?" You looked at the website and the photo of Billy (or William Russo as the picture was captioned). "How did you find this?"
"He paid with his corporate card the other day and I got curious..." she said. "If you go now, you can get there and back in time for your shift."
And, that was that.
You didn't want to show up at his office, but what choice did you have? Every time you'd seen him it had been on his terms. Maybe you'd actually get somewhere if you took the initiative and caught him by surprise.
You decided to take an uber rather than the subway, hoping it'd help you feel less flustered when you got there. It didn't. Nothing you could have done would have prepared you for the building you found yourself in front of.
It was a huge building of glass and steel, and you felt completely out of place the second you set foot in the opulent foyer. If you didn't know better, you'd have thought it was some private investment firm for billionaires.
You approached the front desk, trying not to let your nerves get the better of you.
The woman at the desk smiled as you approached and, by the time you reached her, you'd all but forgotten what you were planning on saying.
"I'm looking for —"
"I'll take you up to Mr Russo's office," she said, somehow just knowing that you were there to see him. (Could she smell his scent on you? Or had Billy told her that you might find your way here?)
You were so taken aback by it that you didn't question her as she stood — though it might have also had something to do with the belated realisation that she was an alpha. In fact, you quickly realised that there were a lot of alphas in the building. It felt like you were walking into the lion's den.
She stepped out from behind the desk and hesitated, offering a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, you're perfectly safe here."
Were you? Could you, an omega, ever really be safe surrounded by alphas?
(Yes, because you were Billy's omega, and they could all see his claim clear as day on your neck.)
She led and you followed, moving through the foyer towards an elevator, and all the way up to the top floor. You found yourself walking through a sleek corridor, wall decorated with framed pictures, awards, and news articles for the company. If you hadn't already realised that Anvil was a big deal the moment you set foot through the door, you certainly did now.
"Does he know I'm here?" You asked as she approached a closed door with his name emblazoned on the glass.
"Mr Russo is in a training exercise at the moment, but I'll make sure he's informed that you're waiting," she said, ushering you into the large office that took up the corner of the building.
Your eyes went wide — though, given what you already knew about Billy, it really shouldn't have come as a surprise — and you did a full 360 degree turn as you looked around his office.
"Feel free to help yourself to drinks," she continued, waving her hand towards a minibar in the far corner of the room, "and make yourself comfortable. Mr Russo will be with you as soon as possible. If you need anything at all, just use the intercom on the desk."
And, then, she was gone.
Just like that. Trusting you alone in his office.
You stared at the sofa and thought about getting yourself a drink, but the urge to snoop was too strong. You wanted to know something about the alpha who was suddenly part of you life.
There were shelves filled with frames, books, and awards. You decided to start there.
They were personal photos, you realised. All taken in different places and across the years, but all with one similarity; the uniforms. He had been a Marine. Each showed Billy with different groups of men, some in dress uniform, others in fatigues. He looked so young in some of them — he must have enlisted straight out of high school.
A couple in particular really stood out to you, pictures where he looked filthy and exhausted but was still managing to smile like he was happy, like he belonged.
Something inside of you stirred at the sight of that smile. He was handsome, even you weren't going to try to deny that, but that smile... it just did something to you. It made the ache in your chest worsen.
He smiled like that at you...
(He smiled like he belonged with you.)
You did a lap of his office, checking each and every one of the photographs before looking over all of the boring corporate awards his company had received. When boredom and anxiety started to kick in, you moved to the windows and stared out across the city. It felt like hours had passed in the space of ten minutes. You tried to distract yourself by imagining him there at the end of a long day, looking out at the Manhattan skyline with a drink in his hand.
This — the office, the grandeur of it all — it suited him. It was mature, respectable, and screamed wealth, and all you could think was that you didn't fit. Why did he want you when this was the life he lived?
The door opened, and you turned to see him .
His usual dark suit had been replaced with black tactical gear, and he didn't need the gun strapped to his thigh to look dangerous. But his clothes weren't the only change in him; his cheeks were flush from exertion, and his hair was out of place.
A memory flashed through your mind, the last time you'd seen him looking so dishevelled; the weight of his body on top of yours, his cock buried inside of you. Your fingers and the intensity of your love making had left his usually perfect hair, mussed up and falling over his eyes.
"Omega," he said, closing the distance between you before you could even think to say any of the things you wanted to. His hands framed your face and he pressed a gentle kiss to your lips. "You're here, you're —"
You pulled back from his grasp, not wanting to get caught up in the moment.
But, when you forced yourself to look at him, you noticed the way he was carrying himself, the way his chest was awkwardly rising and falling. He was in pain. On closer inspection, you realised that not all of the colour on his cheeks was from exertion, some of it looked like the early signs of bruising. After that, everything you had planned to say to him melted away.
"You're — you're hurt," you said, eyes sweeping his body, trying to figure out the source of the pain.
"I was in a live training exercise," he said, shrugging stiffly. Then a slight smile tugged at his lips. "I got a little distracted when I heard you were here."
Your heart stuttered. Had he been hurt because of you?
"What —" you weren't even sure what you wanted to ask. Shaking your head you tried again. "What happened?"
"It's just some bruising. I've had worse," he said, shaking his head. "Have you had a drink? Do you want anything?"
"No. I'm fine. I —" you stopped again as he stiffly started to move towards the minibar, and you remained silent while he poured himself a drink.
He was trying to mask his discomfort the way he masked his emotions, and the fact that he was struggling told you just how bad it was. His shoulder hitched up and he rolled his neck, and for reasons far beyond your control, you took a step closer to him.
"As happy as I am to see you, I'm guessing that this isn't a social call..." He turned to face you, a sizable glass of liquor in his hand.
Finally, you remembered why you were there. "You paid our rent."
"I did."
There was no reason, no excuse, no argument. He just admitted it casually, like it was nothing to him.
"Well... you need to take it back —"
"Take it back?" He asked, amused.
He moved across his office, towards his desk, and you followed after. "Yes, take it back. I've told you, I don't want anything from you."
"You were three days late," he said. "In fact, your landlord couldn't remember the last time you paid on time."
Shame and embarrassment had your cheeks warming. "That's none of your —"
"Yes, it is. You're mine, and that means I'm financially responsible for you now — your debts are mine."
Billy sighed as he slumped onto the large leather chair behind his desk. As angry as you were, that awkward exhale from him had your stomach twisting into an anxious knot. But you weren't going to let that distract you.
"I don't want you paying my rent," you said, following him to the other side of his desk.
"Then move in with me."
"What? No, I — no."
He really was insane.
"Then we're at an impasse," he said, giving another uncomfortable looking shrug.
"No, we're — do you need a doctor?" The words tumbled out, laced in a concern that you didn't want to feel, let alone share.
"Are you worried about me, omega?"
His smile had you wanting to wring his neck.
"No, I just..." you trailed off, barely noticing that you were wringing your hands in front of you. "I just don't want you distracted. This is important."
"Trust me, you have my complete attention."
"You can't pay my rent."
He laughed. "I already have. It's done. I'll be making all payments for you from now on."
Your hand went to your wrist, fingers shaking as you tried to undo the small clasp on the bracelet he'd given you. "Then you should take this back, it'll cover the cost of —"
Billy's hands closed around yours, stopping you. His skin was warm against yours, his grip firm but not uncomfortable. You didn't pull back, didn't try to fight against him.
"Why are you really here?" He asked, tenderly brushing his thumb across your wrist and over your racing pulse.
"I told you, I —"
"You already knew that I'd say no," he interrupted, his voice dropping to that low, soft tone.
"No... I didn't."
His thumb kept moving, soothing that part of you that wanted to lash out and argue with him. Your eyes caught his and, for a few long seconds, you found yourself getting lost in them. Everything about him confused you and, the more time you spent with him, the worse it got.
"Why are you here, omega?"
"It — it hurts," you confessed, echoing his words from last night. "I want it to stop."
There was no point lying or trying to hide the agony you felt when you were parted from him, not when you knew he felt it too.
His expression instantly softened.
"You need to fix it. I don't want to feel like this anymore," you continued. "I can't focus in class, I can't sleep... I need it to stop."
"There is no fixing it, no fighting it," he told you, urging you closer with a gentle tug on your wrist. "The only way to stop it is to embrace it."
You shook your head but let him pull you closer until your bare knees were pressed against the leather of the chair, between his legs.
"Last night, when you gave in to me, it felt better, didn't it?" He asked. When you didn't answer straight away he let one of his hands fall away from yours and tentatively placed it on your thigh. You drew a sharp breath at the contact. "I know you feel it too — the way the pain settles when we're together, when I touch you..."
You shook your head again even though he was right. You tried to step back but realised his desk was behind you and you had nowhere to go. He drew closer to you, the touch on your thigh remained testing and gentle, giving you every chance to push it away. You didn't.
The light touch set your blood on fire, stoking a blazing inferno inside of you. He sat forward and you shifted back, perching yourself on the edge of his desk.
A breath shuddered out of you and you parted your lips to say something, but the words just wouldn't come. What were you supposed to say — that he was right? That the ache beneath your ribs had dulled to nothing the moment he'd touched you?
He let out a breath of his own and you knew you didn't have to say anything; he felt exactly what you felt. Billy edged closer, his hands parting your thighs, making space for himself between them.
Your pulse ratcheted, your heart beating so hard and fast that you wondered if he could hear it. Heat spread from where his hands caressed your thighs all the way to your core, and you found yourself too exhausted to fight it. Instead, you practically melted beneath his touch.
His hands moved higher, slipping beneath your skirt, moving slowly, giving you plenty of opportunity to change your mind. When you didn't, his touches became bolder and, before you had time to really think about it, your fingers were in his hair.
He leaned into your touch, closing his eyes and savouring it, touch starved and desperate for more.
When his eyes opened again, and he looked at you, you felt a shameful bolt of arousal through your body.
You bit your lip, trying to ignore it, trying not to think about how your scent was giving you away again, and how wet your panties were. Just a few more minutes, you told yourself, just long enough to soothe the ache.
But, while you were still thinking of resisting what your body needed, Billy only seemed interested in escalating things. He bowed his head and, before you could even think about whether you wanted him to stop, he was pressing a wet kiss next to your knee.
"Stop," you muttered weakly. Not because you wanted him to stop, but because felt like it was what you were supposed to say.
Billy paused for a moment, but the second your fingers tightened in his hair, he pressed another wet kiss to your inner thigh.
"Billy —" you tried again, protesting even as you let his hands spread your thighs wider.
"Stop fighting me," he murmured as he placed another kiss on your soft skin. "Let me help you feel better. Let me help with the pain."
His pain or yours, you wondered. It didn't matter. Your legs parted further, and you leaned back on his desk, bracing yourself with your hand behind you. When his lips reached the edge of your panties, he shifted to your other thigh and started the process all over again, slowly trailing kisses upwards.
As he inhaled deeply, you closed your eyes, embarrassment heating your cheeks. The way he groaned told you everything you needed to know; he could smell how slick you were, how slick he had made you.
But it all stopped mattering the moment he pressed a kiss to the soaked fabric of your panties.
"Billy!" You gasped, your hips jerking so hard that you would have slipped off the desk if it weren't for his strong hands on your thighs, holding you in place.
A purely alpha groan vibrated through his body, and your omega responded with a soft keening sound, the last of your common sense disappearing with that whine. For the first time in days, you didn't ache, you didn't feel like your body was tearing itself apart from the inside out.
His tongue pressed against your panties, licking you through the fabric — one last testing gesture, giving you one last chance to push him away. You didn't. You couldn't.
Fingers slipped beneath lace, easily tearing the fabric.
"I liked those panties," you laughed into the kiss as he pressed you back on his bed, his fingers finding your clit.
"I'll buy you more," he answered back.
"Why, so you can tear those off me too?"
You felt his lips pull into a grin against yours. "Are you saying you'd rather go without?"
You jolted back from the memory when you felt his fingers spreading you open and his tongue dragging through your folds.
"Fuck, I'd almost forgotten how good you taste," he murmured into your pussy, not bothering to even pull back and inch.
His grip tightened on your thighs and he started to devour you, alternating between long, slow licks through the length of you, and faster flicks of his tongue against your clit.
More memories and flashes of that night flooded your mind; the way his lips and tongue had felt as they explored every inch of your body, the sounds he'd made, and the little marks he'd left on your skin that were only just starting to fade. He'd worshipped you, given you everything that you'd dared ask for. Now, he was doing it again.
You tried to stifle your needy moans, first by biting down on your lip, then by pressing your hand to your mouth. But it was no use. Desperate sounds spilled from you, getting louder with every sweep of his tongue.
Perfect. Beautiful. Needy. Mine. Mine. Mine.
His words from that night played on repeat in your mind. You hadn't baulked, hadn't tried to run, you'd... you'd liked it. Billy had called you his and you'd liked it.
Your moans got louder, more eager and more omega in nature. And those sounds were met with more rough groans and grumblings between your thighs, his alpha side forcing its way to the fore.
There was no slow and gentle build, he pushed you closer and closer to orgasm with every expert flick of his tongue, like he somehow knew exactly how to touch you to bring you to that peak. And when you came, it sent sparks of pleasure coursing through your whole body. His name left you lips in a desperate, pleading gasp — though you weren't even sure what you were pleading for.
Before you had a chance to come to your senses, Billy was on his feet, pulling your hips to meet his. The press of his cock beneath his tactical pants had you squirming, still too sensitive but wanting more. He didn't give you a chance to speak, much less to think before claiming your lips in a heated kiss. Tasting yourself on his lips and tongue left you feeling instantly intoxicated, drunk on him and everything he was doing.
While he kissed you, he fumbled with the holster on his thigh, removing his sidearm and placing it in the top drawer of his desk, safely out of the way.
The longer the kiss dragged on, the easier it was to forget the ache that had once resided in your chest, carving you up from the inside out. Now, there was nothing but pleasure and a sense of calm that made no sense to you.
The insistence of his cock against you told you exactly what he wanted, what he needed from you, but it was his breathless appeal against your lips that had your heart skipping a beat; "please, omega."
You couldn't bring yourself to say no, but you couldn't quite bring yourself to say yes either. So, you settled for reigniting the kiss.
Billy pulled back just enough to slip his hand between your bodies, tugging his belt undone, then making a start on his pants.
A sharp buzzing beside you, startled you both.
"Mr Russo, Congressman Barnes is on line two, you've got a —"
Billy reached for the intercom, clumsily jabbing the button. "Not now."
"The congressman is —"
"I don't care, I said not now."
The interruption was enough to snap you back to some semblance of reality. Your heart was pounding as you gasped for breath, suddenly distracted by the flashing lights on his phone and the stack of paperwork you'd managed to crumple beneath your hand. Paperwork that —
Paperwork that carried the logo for the Office of Omega Services. The ache in your chest returned ten-fold when you realised what it was. Mating registry papers, already filled out with both yours and Billy's details.
He was going to register you as his, without even telling you.
"What the fuck is this?" You asked, hating the way your voice trembled as you slammed your hands into his chest.
He staggered back, not by much, but enough that you could slip off his desk and create some space between you, retreating halfway across the office.
At least he had the decency to look ashamed when he saw what you were holding
"It's not what it looks like?" He said, taking a cautious step towards you.
Your legs trembled beneath you, threatening to give out as you backed away. "No? Then what is it?"
"I started the paperwork before I found out that you didn't remember. I just wanted to —"
"Own me? Force me to be with you?" You spat, waving the crumpled paperwork still gripped in your hand.
He cleared the distance between you with unexpected speed. You didn't recoil, you just tipped your head back to look at him. The heat of his palm against your cheek soothed you in a way you didn't want to think about, and your eyes fluttered shut when the knuckles of his other hand smoothed along your furrowed brow.
"I don't want to control you or own you, omega," he said softly — too softly. "I just want to make sure you're safe and happy, and never have to worry about anything. I like that you're your own person, and I'd never want to change that about you."
You shrank back, but not enough to pull away from his touch.
It all sounded too good to be true, but you couldn't deny that some part of you longed for the security he was offering.
"You've spent so long struggling to prove yourself to everyone around you," he continued. "You're exhausted, I can tell..."
You shook your head, not wanting to admit that he was right. You so fucking tired of everything feeling like an uphill battle; struggling to make rent every month, constantly falling behind in classes you weren't even sure you still wanted to take.
"I don't want to give up," you said, feeling ashamed of even thinking about it.
"I'll never ask you to. I just want to support you," he said. "It's okay to need people sometimes... it's okay to need me..."
You did need him. It was pointless to pretend otherwise. The ache in your chest — in your heart — was back and worse than ever. But, you hated feeling trapped, hated feeling like decisions were being made for you.
"No —"
"Omega, please..." he pleaded as you pulled away completely. "Don't go. I'm sorry — I'm so sorry for all of this."
"Why?" You asked. "Why me? Why any of this?"
"You know why..."
"No, I don't."
His expression shifted. You'd hurt him — how, you didn't know. It hadn't been your intention, but the pained look on his face was almost enough to turn your stomach inside out. And you hated him for that, for making you feel so conflicted all of the time. Even now, your body still thrummed with the pleasure he'd given you and craved more, and your omega half longed to be in his arms again.
"Please, omega —"
"No. I don't know why any of this is happening. I just —" you paused awkwardly, dragging your fingers over your eyes to stop the first sign of tears, "— I just want my life back."
"I can't give you that," he said, sighing. "I can give you anything else... but not that."
It upset him to realise that there was one thing he'd never be able to give you, and hearing him admit that it wasn't even a possibility left you feeling like the floor was crumbling beneath your feet.
"I need to..." you took a step back. "I have to be at work..."
"There's no walking away from this, omega," he said as you started towards his office door. "I'll give you space, if that's what you need, but you can't run from this forever."
You didn't say anything as you left, hurrying out of the building as quickly as possible.
Outside, you found his driver waiting for you. Despite your objections, you were ushered into the back of the car and driven home. Even when he wasn’t with you, Billy seemed adamant about taking care of you, and you were starting to realise that nothing you could do would stop it. The whole ride home, you kept your hand clutched to your chest, trying desperately to ignore your aching heart.
A/N : 😅 Ok, I think there's 2 more parts to this to come, next one will technically be the 'end' of the story, and the last part I want to do Billy's PoV of the night they met, otherwise this is going to get even more wildly out of hand. Anyway, hope you enjoy the smutty angstiness of this one (also, again, I think I got all the typos but I think my laptop keyboard is basically getting to the point where it's completely worn out -- in its defence it's written over 500k words of fanfic and got me through my masters degree -- but now the R key doesn't seem to always so, so... yeah, there's that...)
As always I love and appreciate every like/comment/reblog and keyboard smash of love. Thanks so much for reading! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Chapter Three
"I bet you say that to all the omegas," you said, not wanting him to think you were impressed by his flattery, even though your heart was pounding and you were still smiling.
His hand dropped but you could feel the lingering tingle on your cheek where he'd touched you.
He shook his head. "No, I —"
The alpha didn't seem the sort to get lost for words easily, but as he stared at you, he struggled for what to say.
A dull ache started to grow in your chest, a tug that urged you closer. It should have been warning enough to step away, but the more you tried to deny it, the worse it got.
So, you leaned a little closer.
And, so did he. (Did he feel a similar ache?)
"I'm Billy," he said.
You gave your name, but it felt like more. It felt like a promise.
"Let me buy you a drink," he said again.
Finally, you said yes.
You struggled to focus through your morning classes, distracted by more unwanted memories of that night. But your wandering mind was the least of your worries. From the moment Billy dropped you off, you'd noticed the way people were looking at you, the way conversations turned hushed as you walked by. It didn't take long to figure out that people knew — no doubt thanks to Kyle.
He'd told them his version of things, as he so often did, painting you as the bad guy, the liar and cheat.
You refused to care. You weren't going to let Kyle win. So, you kept your chin up and went to class.
It became harder to ignore at lunchtime when everyone made it clear they wanted nothing to do with you. It felt like being in high school again, being the only omega in your small-town class; a feeling you'd spent years trying to put behind you. You tried to distract yourself by rereading your notes, instead you found your thoughts straying back to that night.
The first time your hand slipped into his, it felt like coming home. It was like suddenly belonging after years of looking for your place. You couldn't describe it, and you certainly didn't have the words to explain it to him. All you could do was hold his hand tighter, hoping that he just knew, that he understood exactly what you were feeling.
After a couple of drinks at the bar, he offered you his hand and led you to a table. By the time you got there, you didn't want to let go. So, you didn't. Your hand stayed clasped in his on the table.
Before you knew what was happening, you were telling him all about yourself; about moving to New York for school, working at The Daily Grind, even how you weren't sure what you wanted anymore.
"Why law?" He asked, his thumb tenderly running along your knuckles.
"I don't know," you answered. "Most omegas who go to college drop out and hardly any of them study law..."
"You want to prove yourself?" He asked and you gave a slight nod. "To who?"
You just shrugged. "You wouldn't get it. You're an alpha. You've probably never had to prove anything to anyone."
"You'd be surprised," he said with a soft smile.
You were rudely pulled back to the present by your watch beeping, telling you to get to your next class. But something in the memory had left a knot in your stomach. It was his smile, it made you want to remember whatever he might have told you. It made you want to remember him, the alpha you'd met that night. The alpha who'd made you feel safe enough to let down your guard.
The rest of the day was much the same until you stepped outside to find Billy's driver standing by the car at the curb, waiting for you. You rushed to get to him, just so you didn't have to prolong the embarrassment of everyone watching you getting picked up by your alpha's driver.
He introduced himself, and asked if you wanted to go straight home. You did. You wanted to go home and curl up in bed for the rest of the week. Only you couldn't. You had to go home and get ready for your date with Billy.
Shelly almost lost her mind when you told her. And the worst part? You couldn't tell if it was because she was happy you'd agreed to spend time with him.
"Whose side are you on?" You asked as she rummaged through your closet, trying to help you find something to wear.
"Obviously yours," she said, throwing a little black dress your way, "but we've been over this; there's no getting out of a mating bond, so you're gonna have to find another way to deal with this."
"You think I should just roll over and be a good omega?"
Shelly huffed and glared at you. "I didn't say that. I just think you need to accept how precarious your situation is. He could turn your whole life upside down if he wanted to."
You didn't have a snappy answer for her, so she ushered you towards the bathroom to shower. When you reemerged Shelly did your hair and makeup for you, all the while reminding you to be on your best behaviour.
She didn't offer to cover the claiming mark, and you didn't dare ask her why. It wasn't a secret anymore, you supposed. There was no point in continuing to hide it.
At 6:30 on the dot, you headed out.
"Practice safe sex!" Shelly called after you, and you extended your middle finger to her.
He was already waiting when you got outside. Somehow he looked even better than he had that morning — devilishly handsome and downright sinful. Beneath your ribs something started to pull again. Billy's smile widened the closer you got.
"You look —"
He stopped the second your expression started to darken.
You didn't want flattery and honeyed words, you weren't there to be won over. This was simply a logistical meeting to figure out how to move forward. Nothing more, nothing less.
His smile faded, replaced by that calm mask. But it didn't hide the hurt in his eyes.
"This is for you," he said, all but forcing a box into your hand.
You stared at it for a second before opening it and looking inside. Your heart skipped several beats at the contents. A bracelet. Silver — or, maybe it was platinum — with blue stones set all the way around the delicate chain. You didn't even want to think about whether the stones were real.
"Sapphires," he said, as if reading your mind. "I thought they'd match your necklace."
Without warning, he reached for you and took the little blue butterfly charm between his fingers, examining it before letting it go again.
"Why?" You asked.
The last thing you expected was for him to laugh — a soft, warm sound that settled something inside of you. "I really am your first alpha, aren't I?"
Your cheeks warmed. Did you really tell him that?
"It's a courting gift," he explained.
"Isn't it a little late for that?"
He took an uncomfortable breath, his jaw ticking as he tried to ignore the bluntness behind your question.
"It's supposed to show that I can provide for you —"
"I can provide for myself."
You didn't know why you were antagonising him. The bracelet was probably worth a small fortune — and it wasn't just some gaudy trinket either. Thought had gone into the gift. He'd paid attention to you, enough to notice your necklace.
"I —" you started, needing to break the silence that you had created, "— I didn't get you anything."
The smile returned to his lips, and you hated it. He was too handsome when he smiled.
He shook his head. "You're here, that's the only thing I want.
You didn't have a response to that. At least, not one that would be helpful.
"Here, let me..." he said, plucking the bracelet from the box and fastening it on your wrist.
All you could do was stare at it, watching as the sapphires sparkled beneath the light of the street lamps. Sapphires — how much did real sapphires even cost?
"It should be a ring really, given everything," he started to mutter, "but I don't want to push you..."
Silence seemed to be your best option.
"Come on, I don't want to be late for our reservation," he said.
It was then that you noticed he wasn't standing in front of the town car and his driver wasn't waiting. By the curb sat a black Rolls Royce.
"Is that a Wraith?" You asked, trying not to sound too impressed as he opened the passenger door.
"You know cars?"
"A little. My dad —" you hesitated awkwardly, considering how much you wanted to share, "— he worked as a mechanic and... because he was an alpha, other alpha's trusted him with their expensive cars..."
Billy smiled that damned smile again, keeping his eyes on you as you got into the car.
He didn't speak again until he was behind the wheel, pulling the car away from the curb. "I thought you might be more comfortable if it was just us tonight. No driver, no —"
"No one to listen to us argue?" You offered.
Billy laughed. It was an awkward sound but it was better than an instant rebuke. "I don't want to argue. I — I want to try and get past that tonight."
You gave a nod and a noncommittal hum, letting your gaze drift out of the window for the short car ride through the city. Billy didn't push or try to make you talk to him, but there was no ignoring his presence, his scent. Your fingers gripped the hem of your dress, desperate to ignore the urge to reach for him. The omega part of you was in active rebellion, eager for her alpha, longing to touch and be touched.
You barely held back a sigh of relief when he pulled into a dark parking lot and got out of the car. It didn't cross your mind to open the car door, instead you waited for him to do it. He offered you his hand and helped you out. Your mind instantly drifted to the memory you'd half-remembered at lunch time — your hand holding his, not wanting to let go.
This time he kept your hand as he led you towards a little restaurant.
"Thai?" You asked the second you saw the neon sign.
"I heard your ex mention it," Billy said, shrugging. "But we don't have to eat here if you don't want — I can take you anywhere in the city."
"No... Thai is fine."
His fingers remained tight around yours as he led you into the restaurant, firm and unyielding, as if silently reminding you that you were his. You tried not to think about it, instead distracting yourself with the rich scents around you and the gentle music that was playing over the speakers.
The maitre d' didn't ask if Billy had a reservation — clearly she already knew who he was and, more importantly, what he was. Moments later you were led to a table at the back, tucked away behind silk screens and orchid plants; a private and intimate space separated from the riff-raff. It would have felt romantic under different circumstances.
He pulled out your chair and his palm brushed against your waist as he guided you to sit. A fleeting but purposeful touch. Deliberate, even. The heat of it lingered long after you sat down and tormented the part of you that wanted more, the omega part who wanted everything her alpha had to offer.
You made a point of ordering wine for the table, asserting your independence over that one little thing. Billy didn't argue but you caught his lips twitching like he was fighting back a smile. He was indulging you.
Once you'd both given your orders and your wine was on the table, the server vanished, leaving you alone. An uncomfortable silence quickly set in, and you could feel his eyes on you.
"What?" You asked.
"What?" He answered, distracted.
"You're staring."
His gaze dropped to your neck, to his mark, and heat sparked inside you. He wet his lips with his tongue, buying himself a moment before answering. "You didn't cover my mark tonight."
Your cheeks burned and your gaze instantly dropped to the table.
"I didn't mean to —" he quickly started again.
"It's fine," you cut him off. "Everyone knows anyway. They all think I cheated on Kyle."
His jaw clenched. "I'm sorry. I never meant to turn your life upside down."
"Then why did you?"
A heavy sigh escaped him, sick of having the same conversation over and over. He unlocked his phone and slid it across the table to you. As you reached for it, your fingers brushed against his, and the heat burning through your body intensified.
"I've got nothing to hide about that night."
You hesitated, heart hammering as you lifted the phone and realised that the gallery was open — pictures, videos, frozen moments from the night you couldn't quite remember. You start to scroll through dozens of images of you smiling, happy in a way that showed a certain level of clarity and understanding, just as your own pictures had.
When you pressed play on the first video, you were met with the sound of your own voice, sultry and seductive as you leaned close to him.
"You smell like coffee and dark chocolate," you murmured, nuzzling against his neck. "So nice..."
Your lips pressed to his gland in a wet kiss, and —
The intimacy of the gesture caused your stomach to knot and your thighs to press together beneath the table. You quickly swiped away from the video, only to find yourself staring at a picture of you on your knees in front of him, his hand tangled in your hair, while your hands pulled at his pants. Your mouth went dry with the realisation that the dream really had been a memory; you'd given Billy a blowjob.
Shame and want filled you, your omega part declaring war on your common sense. That was the worst part of all of it, the fact that some piece of you still wanted it, wanted him.
You wanted to reach for him almost as much as you wanted to slap him.
"I don't know how else to prove I didn't coerce you or trick you into this," he said. "You wanted me."
You couldn't even look at him, terrified of what you might see.
Your hand shook as you reached for your wine glass, desperate for a momentary distraction as you continued to scroll through the photographs.
The next images were the ones that really got to you — you on his bed in your underwear, smiling so widely it looked like you were glowing, like it was the happiest moment of your life. It hurt that you couldn't remember ever feeling that happy. How had he done it? How had he made you smile like that?
You scrolled again and your heart seized in your chest; you on his bed, this time naked, seductively blowing a kiss for the camera.
You slammed the phone down on the table and pushed it back towards him. Your thighs were still clenched beneath the table, your body and mind in disagreement over what you were supposed to be feeling.
He took back his phone, glancing at the screen and smiling, before dropping it back into his pocket.
"Do you really not —"
The food arrived just in time to save you from the awkward question.
All you could think about were those pictures, and how they didn't feel like you. You weren't a happy person, not really. Other people constantly disappointed you — it was why you always went back to Kyle, better the asshole you knew.
You felt Billy watching as you ate, but you refused to lift your eyes from your food. Every time your glass started to look empty, he took it upon himself to refill it for you. If you'd been feeling cynical, you might have assumed he was doing it to get you drunk and more agreeable, but you realised that he just liked playing the part of alpha and providing for you.
"How's your food?" He dared to ask about halfway through the meal.
"Good."
He was silent for a few seconds, waiting to see if you'd elaborate, and continued when you didn't. "I'm glad you like it. It's nice to see you eating properly."
You bristled at the comment but didn't respond. The omega part of you only seemed to get louder in your silence, wanting your alpha to take care of you, to make sure you were well-fed, happy, and safe.
Dessert arrived — two ice cream sundaes, ordered without asking. You wanted to baulk at it, but you were rendered speechless by the way he slid one closer to you, looking at you as if he'd spoon feed it to your himself if he had to.
For a few wonderful minutes, you were allowed to grudgingly enjoy the ice cream. But then he had to speak again and ruin it.
"Do you really not remember any of it?" He asked.
You froze, the spoon in your hand dripped ice cream back into the bowl beneath. His gaze pinned you in place and you noticed the tension that had filled his body, like it was taking every ounce of his restraint not to reach across the table for you.
You felt the tug beneath your ribs again, and realised that part of you wanted him to.
"I —" you started and stopped, wanting to lie but knowing it would only make things worse, "— I remembered some of it, but I still don't remember why I'd agree to any of it."
He let out a shuddered sigh. His hand gripped the edge of the table, anchoring himself, his knuckles quickly turning white.
"I thought that maybe you were just... having second thoughts." His tone betrayed his hurt and annoyance. And his anger.
"It's not my fault I don't remember," you said, holding his gaze. "I don't know what you expect from me."
"Try some fucking compassion."
The sharpness should have been enough to make you flinch, but instead it reignited that uncomfortable heat inside of you. He'd never hurt you. You didn't know how you knew it, you just did.
Still, you scoffed. "Compassion? That's rich."
"Do you really think you're the only one who doesn't know what the fuck is going on?" He asked, his voice low but barely holding back the torrent of emotions you'd managed to provoke in him. "I've been nothing but patient, trying to do things the right way, and you're treating me like I did something wrong. You wanted this. You wanted me."
You bit back the first nasty response that came to mind and took a second to consider his words. Grudgingly, you had to admit that you hadn't thought about him at all, about how it must have felt to have a willing mate one moment and someone all but accusing him of assault the next.
"I don't remember," you said again. "And, I'm sorry, but I don't even know why I would agree to any of this. I literally broke up with my boyfriend two days ago, and now I'm mated to a guy I don't even know. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with any of this."
He huffed and ran his fingers through his hair, the last of his composure rapidly disintegrating.
"You did agree to this. And I don't know how to prove that to you," he said, pushing away his half-finished sundae. "I thought we could at least try to talk and get to know each other —"
"Why? I don't want this."
His jaw tightened again. "Well it's too late for what you want now. It's done. You're mine. You're going to have to learn to accept it."
Your breath caught in your chest and the spoon slipped from your fingers, clattering as it landed back in the sundae dish. You pushed back from the table, desperate to get away from him and all the stifling emotions that were warring inside of you.
Billy's hand closed around your wrist before you could stand, holding tight.
His hand was so warm on your skin, holding you firmly but also delicately, not wanting to let you go but not wanting to risk hurting you either. The prolonged contact had you torn between contempt and want, your omega desires louder than ever and impossible to ignore.
"Stop fighting me," he said, softly stroking his thumb over your racing pulse. "Please."
He shifted closer, his chair dragging on the tiles — close enough that his scent started to flood your senses.
A molten heat licked through your treacherous body and you realised your thighs were pressed together again, every fibre of your being thrumming with a need you didn't dare name. You dug your nails into your thighs, trying to ground yourself, trying not to lose yourself to your base omega desires.
You were so caught up in your own internal struggles that you didn't notice his hand start to move until it slid past your elbow to your shoulder. Up and up, until it was on your neck, his fingers brushing over your gland and the permanent mark he'd left on it.
"I know you're scared," he said softly, "but I promise you, all I want to do is take care of you."
His eyes fixed yours and you found that you couldn't look away. The more he touched you, the more he looked at you like that, the harder it was to deny him. You were angry — at least, you were supposed to be angry. You wanted to be angry.
"You're perfect," he muttered into your ear, his arm tight around your waist.
The comment caused you to falter and stare at him, confused. "No one's ever called me perfect before."
It was his turn to look confused, then angry — not at you, but for you. "But you are perfect, omega. Every single thing about you, every last bit. I want to spend my whole life showing you how perfect you are."
Your legs trembled beneath you as you leaned to kiss him, wanting to tell him what your words could not.
The memory had a sound escaping you, a quiet omega whine that betrayed everything you wanted to deny. Every memory of him was so delicate and gentle, nothing like the broken alpha sitting before you. (You'd done that to him, you'd broken him by forgetting.)
His nostrils flared and you realised entirely too late that your scent had shifted. His dark eyes filled with hunger and his fingers pressed down on your gland, causing you to feel lightheaded as your arousal continued to spike.
You swallowed thickly, trying to rid yourself of the lump in your throat so you could speak and say something to stop the insanity.
Billy wet his lips again and let his gaze drop to your mouth, and all you could think about was the picture of you in his bed, naked and wanting. He leaned closer, looking ready to devour you.
Then he pulled back, placing his hand on the table as if nothing had happened.
"I know you feel it too," he said, his voice filled with a forced calm. "I know you felt it that night."
You did. Your body thrummed with it, the ache in your chest growing more acute the second he pulled away from you. But, just because you felt it didn't mean you understood it.
"No," you whispered.
Somehow you finally forced your body to obey your mind and got to your feet.
He watched but didn't try to stop you, instead pulling out his wallet and leaving a wad of bills on the table to cover the check. The second you turned and started to walk away, he was hot on your heels. He reached for you, pressing his hand to the small of your back as you left the restaurant, no doubt wanting to make sure every other alpha in the place knew that you were his and that you weren't leaving alone.
The cool night air did nothing to quell the fire that was burning through your veins, but it did help clear your mind a little.
You stopped short, halfway between the restaurant and his car. Billy stopped beside you, his hand still on your back despite you trying to shrug away from his touch.
"I'll get an uber," you said, needing space and time to unpack all of your raging thoughts.
"No," he said, keeping his hand on you. "I'll take you home."
At the slightest pressure on your back, you started to move, your body obeying his silent command for a few steps.
"No," you said, shaking your head. "I said I'll get an uber."
"And I said I'll take you home."
You opened your mouth to argue but he started to move again and you didn't stop until you were standing beside the Wraith. When you turned to face him, you found yourself crowded by his presence. The hand that had been on your back shifted to your hip as you turned, and his other hand had come up to brace himself on the car, right beside your head.
He caged you in, standing close enough that your chest pressed against his with every dizzying breath you took. His scent enveloped you once more, slowly chipping away at your restraint.
"Billy —" you started but stopped when you noticed the way his dark eyes were looking at you.
"Please, stop fighting me," he said, his voice little more than a whisper. "It's unbearable. It hurts so fucking much."
Your heart constricted at the mere thought of causing him pain. As much as he pissed you off, that wasn't what you wanted, and if what he felt was a fraction of the ache in your own chest...
You didn't even want to think about it.
When you didn't speak, didn't try to pull away, Billy took that as a sign to press closer. His nose grazed your neck, and the angle of his head exposed his gland to you.
Your hands gripped his shoulders for support as your knees buckled beneath you, but there was no risk of falling. He wouldn't let you fall.
"Please," he begged, a deep rumble vibrating through his chest.
The heat in your veins burned hotter still, scorching you from the inside out. An alpha was begging for you. Your alpha was begging for you.
And you were so close to breaking, so close to giving in to your omega side.
"Stop," you managed to choke out. "I — I just want to go home."
Billy let out a rough exhale but pulled back from your neck, resting his head against yours for a few seconds, temple to temple, taking a moment to regain his composure. When he pulled back, his eyes caught yours in a longing stare. It was almost enough to have you changing your mind but, before the thought could fully form, he'd pulled away from you and was opening the car door.
Your omega half mourned the loss of contact and longed for the heat of his body against yours. You forced it down and tried to silence it as you got into the car. All you wanted was to go home, to put an end to the night — to put an end to all of it.
The drive back to your apartment was excruciating, the silence and the lingering tension between you was suffocating. His scent filled the car, strong enough to make the longing ache beneath your ribs intensify. Your fists clenched in your lap and you tried everything you could to ignore how aware of him you were.
By the time he pulled up in front of your building, you were ready to jump out and run, but then he let out a sigh and you froze.
"When can I see you again?" He asked.
It took everything you had not to laugh. You'd just endured the worst date of your life, and he was asking when he could make you suffer through another. The absurdity of it was only countered by the way he'd begged and the pain he'd admitted to feeling because of you.
"Why?" You asked.
"Because I want to see you again."
"Why?"
His eyes found yours again, his expression desperate but resolved. "Because you're mine. Because there's no undoing this. Because it means something to me. Pick one."
With a shake of your head and a roll of your eyes, you reached for the handle to get out of the car. But, before you could slip away, his hand found your wrist again, his thumb pressed over your racing pulse. You turned back to face him, to tell him to let go and —
Your objections died on your lips the second your eyes met his. He looked so desperate, so sad, so... wounded.
"Omega..." he said softly, and the heat reignited in your body.
You held his gaze, the rest of the world fading into the background until only you and Billy remained. He was a wolf and you were his prey. He wanted to control you, devour you. And part of you was desperate to let him.
You didn't notice you were moving until you started to lean towards him. His free hand rose to find your cheek, cupping it tenderly. The touch sent a spark of desire through you, and you leaned into the warmth of his palm.
Then your hand was on his jacket, clutching a fistful of the expensive fabric, pulling him closer even though some part of you tried to deny what you wanted.
His lips found yours and everything else went silent.
The kiss wasn't gentle. It was claiming, demanding, stealing the breath from your lungs. You got so caught up in the blur of emotions that you didn't realise you were moving — or that you were being moved — until you found yourself straddling him, your fingers buried in his hair.
He groaned and you keened against his lips in response, your omega vying for control.
"I thought you didn't want this," he said, barely able to pull his lips from yours to speak.
Your forehead pressed against his, your eyes closed tight. "I don't. But I — I can't help myself..." you lied, pulling him into another kiss, eager for another taste.
Everything was him; his soft lips against yours, the taste of wine on his tongue, the heat of his hands as they slid up your thighs and dragged you closer. You gasped against his lips as you felt the press of his arousal between your thighs.
The omega part of you won out, rocking your hips against his and letting out a shameless, broken moan at the friction, wanting more.
"Fuck," he muttered against your lips.
He trailed kisses down your jaw, then lower, playfully scraping his teeth along the column of your throat. Each wet, hot press of his mouth drove you closer to insanity. And, when his nose brushed against your gland, you shuddered violently in his lap.
You let out another sound, something embarrassingly submissive, something purely omega.
"That's it," he groaned, letting one of his hands slide higher up your thigh and beneath your dress. "Stop fighting what you need. I know you want this."
He was right. You wanted all of it. You wanted him.
Heat pulsed between your legs, and the higher his hand got, the harder it became to deny it. By the time his fingers reached the lace of your panties, you were already slick, your body ready and eager for him. Your heart threatened to stop the second you felt the heat of his fingers bleeding through the wet fabric to the sensitive skin beneath.
An animalistic rumble vibrated through his chest, and it only made you feel more out of control.
"Billy —" you gasped, his name falling from your lips like a plea.
He didn't pull back from your neck, didn't stop the scrape of lips and teeth over your skin, gorging himself on you and your scent like a starving man.
"Mine," he muttered against your skin.
You opened your mouth, about to disagree, when his fingers slipped into your panties. The only sound you managed to make was a low whine, and the only word to leave your lips was his name again. His touch was confident, demanding — everything your omega needed it to be, everything she wanted from her alpha.
Another desperate sound tore from you as his finger sank into the slick heat of your body. His lips covered yours again, his tongue finding yours and muting your eager moans. The finger started to move, drawing in and out while his thumb pressed against the throbbing bud of your clit. You writhed against his touch, wanting more and more.
Little by little, you could feel yourself getting lost, being drowned out by your omega half and her desperate needs.
She would let him fuck her, right there in the car. She would be shameless and brazen, taking anything and everything that her alpha wanted to give her.
But you still didn't know what you wanted — you didn't know if you wanted him as a mate, you didn't even know if you could trust him.
"You're mine," he said against your lips. "Say it. Say you're mine."
Yours. Yours. Yours. Your omega part wanted to answer but you managed to keep her silent, despite everything he was doing to make you want to surrender.
As a car horn blared down the street, a slither of reality crept back in and you reached for it, trying to pull yourself out of the haze. Then, with every ounce of strength you could muster, you pushed yourself away from him. It wasn't much, but it was enough. Billy stilled beneath you, staring up at you through the gloom.
"No," you said, shaking your head. "I — I can't."
For a moment, he didn't move. His eyes stayed fixed on you, watching for the slightest sign of uncertainty but, when you showed none, he let his hand slip from between your thighs. You felt empty and bereft of his touch as you scrambled off his lap and out onto the street, straightening your dress as you went.
You didn't dare turn back until you were at the door to your building, and found him still sitting in the car, his hands gripping the steering wheel to keep himself from following after.
A/N : show of hands... who'd be shocked to discover that I might need to make this one a little longer than I planned because I'm being over-indulgent with the angst? 😅 So, right now it's looking like maybe another two weeks of this one? Chapter Two
As you sat and tried to eat your lunch, you found your mind constantly drifting back to the infuriating alpha. Every word played on repeat in your mind, like a broken record skipping. He wasn't going to leave, he wasn't going to take no for an answer.
You did everything you could to keep the thoughts of him at bay, but the more you tried to pretend he didn't exist, the more your mind rebelled against you.
At the bar, you tried to ignore him but you could feel his eyes on you. And his scent — once you'd noticed it, there was no ignoring it. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and some earthy undertones. You'd never smelled anything like it. It was heavenly.
Taking a drink, you tried to bury and overwhelm it, but it didn't work.
You dared a glance his way confirming that, yes, he was still looking at you.
If he'd been anyone but an alpha, and if his scent alone hadn't left you feeling lightheaded, you would have told him to fuck off. But, as it stood, you were in no mood for a fight.
"Whoever broke your heart is a fucking idiot," he offered, easily putting two and two together.
(Were you really that obvious?)
You rolled your eyes at the line, but regardless of how cheesy it was, you couldn't help but smile. Kyle was a fucking idiot.
His expression changed as yours did and, suddenly, he wasn't just looking at you, he was studying you like you were the single most interesting thing he'd ever seen. No one had looked at you like that before, like they were really seeing you.
"What?" You asked, you voice soft, little more than a murmur.
He reached for you, his fingertips ghosting over your cheek. You trembled but didn't shy away.
"Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are when you smile?" He asked.
If it was a line, it certainly didn't feel like one. Your heart started to pound wildly beneath your ribs, and the purely omega part of you started to want. Desperately. You forced a slow, deep breath, your skin tingling where his fingers had grazed. His scent filled your nose again and, this time, you allowed yourself to enjoy it. Something instantly settled inside of you and all your fears regarding alphas fell to the wayside. But just for him. Only for him.
The memory left an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach, and you actively had to fight against the pull you felt towards him. Your omega half wanted her alpha, but you knew that part of you wasn't to be trusted. You'd spent your whole life railing against the idea that you needed an alpha, and you weren't about to change just because one had somehow tricked you into a mating bond.
He was still at his table when you returned from your lunch break, a fresh mug of coffee in front of him. You shot Shelly a pointed look.
"What was I gonna do — say no to a paying customer?" She asked.
Rolling your eyes, you went back to work, making a concerted effort not to look his way, even though you could feel him watching your every move.
His scent hit you every time you had to pass is table. The pull towards him got stronger until you were fighting the baser part of yourself that wanted nothing more than to crawl onto his lap. And you hated it. You hated yourself for even having those feelings, even though the urges were purely biological.
Shelly finished an hour before closing but took her time actually leaving. She didn't want to leave you alone with him, but you eventually convinced her to go home and walked her to door.
Things quickly got quiet and, five minutes to closing, only you and the alpha remained.
"What?" You finally broke your silence when you noticed his eyes shifting between you and the door.
"Do you normally get left alone?"
"I don't need a babysitter," you said.
The implication was clear; because you were an omega you needed someone around you at all times, someone who could protect you. You decided not to say anything else, not wanting to risk sparking an actual conversation with him. Honestly, you just wanted him to leave.
He gave a noncommittal hum and returned his attention to his phone, letting you work through your closing checklist.
It was just your luck that, as you started to take the leftover sandwiches out of the fridge, someone walked in.
"We're closing in a minute," you said, not bothering to turn around, "if you want a drink, you'll have to take it to go."
"I don't want a drink. I came to talk."
Kyle. Oh fuck.
You stood and turned so quickly it made your head swim. He couldn't be there. Not now. Not while Billy was sitting only a couple of meters away.
"I think I said everything I needed to say to you yesterday," you said, stepping towards Kyle, trying to usher him out before Billy figured out who Kyle was to you. "So, if you don't want a drink —"
"Come on, babe," he said, ignoring the way you were waving him towards the door. "This is just what we do; we argue, we fuck up, and then we get back together."
"We fuck up?" You repeated.
"Yeah, y'know —"
"No, Kyle, I don't," you snapped. "You accused me of cheating, and —"
"Alright — fuck — I'm sorry, okay?" He said, just as he had in moments like this a hundred times before. "We both said shit we regret. Just forgive me already. We can go back to mine, and I'll order from that Thai place you like."
"No. I'm done. And I'm tired. So, can you just go so I can close up?"
"Babe, c'mon, let me apologise..."
Part of you wanted to, wanted to just fall back into your toxic, miserable relationship because it made life easier. But, it was too late for that, thanks to Billy.
"Why? So you can do it all over again in a couple of months?" You asked. "I'm sick of it. We're done."
"Don't throw this away. We've been together for three years..."
A chair scraped on the tiles behind you the moment Kyle took hold of your arm. Stupidly, you started to turn towards Billy, but Kyle's grip tightened.
"What the fuck is that?" He asked.
You winced and tugged against his grip.
"On your neck — what the fuck is that?" He demanded. His other hand brushed against the raised, tender skin on your neck over your gland, wiping at the make-up. His expression changed instantly. "Is that a — are you fucking kidding me? I came to apologise to you and you already have someone else's claiming mark on your neck?"
"It's not like that," you said weakly.
"I can't believe it, you stupid little —"
Before he could finish the insult, his hand was wrenched away from your arm and was twisted behind his back. Kyle let out a pathetic yelp and almost doubled over as Billy started to force him towards the door.
(Your alpha was protecting you.)
"If you ever lay a hand on my omega again, you won't live long enough to regret it," Billy threatened as he pushed Kyle outside.
You couldn't hear the words that were exchanged once the door swung shut behind them. You just watched through the window as Billy shoved Kyle to the ground. It was strange how you felt nothing — no worry or defensiveness for Kyle. You just felt numb, knowing that if Billy hadn't been there, if he hadn't claimed you, you probably would have accepted Kyle's apology and allowed him to keep treating you like shit.
Kyle made a fool of himself, getting back up and trying to take a swing at Billy. But the alpha was too fast, and he moved with a surety that told you this wasn't his first fight. He knocked Kyle on his ass again, but that was all.
Billy could hurt him; he was bigger, stronger, and faster than Kyle. But he held himself back. He knocked Kyle down a third time before your ex finally got the hint and took off running.
You were so caught up in everything that had happened that it didn't even occur to you that you could have locked the door and finally created some space between you and the alpha. A few seconds later, he was in font of you, looking at you with a softness you hadn't seen from him before.
"Are you okay?" He asked, ghosting his fingers over your neck, following the chain of your necklace down to the blue butterfly charm you always wore. "Did he hurt you?"
"I'm fine. He barely even touched me," you answered, your voice coming out far softer than you wanted.
"He touched your gland," Billy said.
You shrugged, embarrassment causing your cheeks to warm. He might technically be your alpha but it still felt inappropriate for him to talk about your gland.
"I said it's fine —"
"It's not fine. I should've killed him for putting his hands on you like that."
"Why didn't you?"
The question came out like an accusation; sharp and with a goal of cutting him, hurting him.
"Because I didn't want to scare you."
His answer made your heart stutter, and the look on his face left no room for doubt. He meant it. Billy would have killed Kyle if you hadn't been watching.
It should have horrified you, scared you even. Instead you were busy fighting an emotional tug-of-war with yourself over how to feel.
"I'm not scared, I'm annoyed," you said after a lengthy silence.
"Why did you let him talk to you like that?" Billy asked. "What did you even see in a guy like that?"
"Aside from the fact he's in my age-bracket?"
"Physically, maybe," Billy conceded. "But he clearly has no fucking idea how to treat a woman. You deserve better than a prick like him."
"How would you know what I deserve?" You answered back. "You don't even know me."
"I know enough," he said, "but I'm a fast learner, and we've got the rest of our lives for me to find out everything there is to know about you."
You shook your head and fought back a bitter laugh. Ridiculous. Somehow you'd managed to get stuck with a ridiculous alpha.
"How do you know I'm not just after your money?" You asked. Billy's lip curled in anger — finally, you were getting to him. "Maybe I took one look at you, realised you were loaded, and —"
"We can go register you as my mate right now, if that's what you want," he said. "Then half of everything I have would be yours."
"Just like that?" You asked, unwilling to admit that he'd called your bluff. Once you were registered, there would be no going back. If you registered, you'd be bound to him for the rest of your life. "You'd register us and let me take half of everything you have?"
"I'd give you the whole fucking world if you asked for it," he said.
He took a step forward. You mirrored the action by taking a step back, then another. You quickly found the counter at your back, leaving you nowhere to run. Your legs trembled as he closed the gap, his scent filing the air around you and infecting your senses. Something inside of you, the part you were longing to silence, was desperate to pull him to you, to hold him close and lose yourself to him completely.
"You're insane," you said. "You're acting insane."
"Maybe," he shrugged. "But you're the one who made me this way."
"You'd really do it — give me half of everything? Why?"
"I can make more money," he said. You shrank back as he reached for you, his fingers ghosting your cheek before slipping down you to you neck again, over his claiming mark. "But there's no replacing you, no substitute for you, my sweet omega."
A lump caught in your throat and your heart rattled against your ribs at the dark glint in his eyes.
"Tell me you don't feel it — tell me you didn't feel it last night. We're connected," he continued, his fingers running over your gland, touching you in a way that caused fire to spark in your veins.
"I was drunk," you said in little more than a whisper, but he was so close he heard it perfectly.
"No, before that. I know you felt it, the pull that led me to you," he said, his voice quiet, matching yours.
You couldn't deny it because you couldn't remember, but you knew what he was talking about; the pull beneath your ribs, the desperate and aching desire to close the distance between you.
His fingers continued to softly dance over your gland.
"I don't remember," you told him again. "And you didn't give me the chance to find out. You took advantage of me."
Billy closed the small space between you in an instant, his body pressing against yours as he took your face in his hands, forcing you to meet his gaze.
"Come to dinner with me. Get to know me," he said. "Let me prove that I didn't take advantage of you."
"It's too late for that."
"No, this is just the start. There's no running from this, omega. You're mine now."
You shook your head.
His hands dropped and, for a split-second, you dared to hope he was going to back away. Instead, he kissed you. Your lips parted in a gasp as he lifted you up and sat you on the counter, and he used that opportunity to slip his tongue into your mouth. He stepped between your legs and pulled your body against his, slotting his hips between your thighs.
And you...
You weren't fighting him, weren't trying to push him away.
You were... kissing him back.
"You're mine," he muttered against your lips before bowing his head and pressing his nose to your gland. "And I'm yours."
(Mine, mine, mine. The omega part of you started to chant.)
Heat licked through your body. His lips pressed wet kisses to your gland, and you let him. Your back arched and, before you knew what you were doing, your arms were around his waist, hands gripping the back of his shirt. You were so consumed by him that you barely thought anything of it when you felt his half-hard cock pressed between your thighs.
He was close — too fucking close, but still not close enough — and all you could think about was the thick scent of his arousal all around you, smothering you. You shifted closer, your skirt riding up as you started to writhe and grind against him. The man who'd turned your life upside down. Your Alpha.
Every thought in your mind became fuzzy. Every protest drowned out by want. Your omega part battled for dominance of your body, urging you closer as another memory flashed through your mind.
You were on the dance floor, his hand on your stomach, pulling your back against him. You were laughing, smiling, as you ground your ass against him and felt a rumble vibrate through his chest.
"You're driving me crazy," he groaned in your ear, before nipping your earlobe with his teeth.
"Good," you answered.
"I knew you were trouble the moment I laid eyes on you."
"You've got no idea how much trouble I am," you said tilting your head to the side, giving him access to your neck.
"I'm going to spend all night finding out," he promised before running his tongue up your neck, over your gland.
You moaned, both at the memory and the way he was touching you. Worshipping you. His scent wrapped you up and kept you from thinking straight. Arousal, desire, dominance — everything about it was pure alpha. You keened, completely overwhelmed, hips stuttering and grinding against him.
The feel of his teeth grazing your gland was enough to have you coming undone, pushing you to a sudden and intense climax that had you shaking in his arms.
His lips covered yours again, swallowing down your moans. It was too much. Something inside of you finally snapped and brought you crashing back to reality.
"Stop," you gasped, sparks of pleasure still exploding within you.
Panting, you angled away from his lips and pushed him. You weren't strong enough to move him, but he stepped back regardless, his chest awkwardly rising and falling with every ragged breath he took.
"I don't want this." An uncontrollable tremor in your voice betrayed you.
"You don't know what you want."
With anyone else, the assertion might have worried you. But something told you that you were safe with Billy. Some innate part of you knew that he'd never hurt you or try to force himself on you.
"I don't want you," you said.
Something flickered on his face — hurt, maybe — it was quickly forced back behind his calm and collected facade.
"Is that why you just came for me?" He said brazenly, smugly. "You think I can't smell how turned on you are right now? How slick your tight little cunt is?"
He inhaled through his nose and your cheeks burned. You knew he was right, you knew what scents lingered in the air around you. You pressed you legs together and tried to ignore how wet you were.
"I didn't come for you," you spat. "I came for me. And, now that you've served your purpose, you can leave."
"Served my purpose, what's —"
"Everyone know that alpha's are only good for their dicks," you shrugged and lowered yourself off the counter, trying to ignore the way your legs shook beneath you. "I got my orgasm, now I have no more use for you. So leave."
"Omega..." his tone was one of warning.
You held your head high, looking him in the eye. "I'm sorry, were you expecting a docile little omega who was going to do whatever you wanted? Maybe you claimed the wrong omega after all."
Riling him up probably wasn't a good idea, but something about him brought out that side in you. You weren't meek or weak — regardless of what he might have thought after seeing you with Kyle.
"Oh, no, I definitely claimed the right omega, and I'm going to enjoy showing your why." He took a step back, not caring that you were watching as he adjusted his tented trousers. "I'll see you tomorrow."
He started towards the door, leaving you stunned and confused.
"No you won't," you countered. "I have classes tomorrow."
Billy didn't answer, he just looked back at you and grinned before slipping out the door.
Shelly was waiting for you when you finally got home, and you'd never been more glad that she was a beta. She couldn't smell his scent all over you and, when she asked, you told her that nothing had happened after she left.
The pair of you spent the night drinking cheap wine, eating pizza, and trying to come up with ways you could get out of being his mate. Nothing useful was discovered and, after a few glasses of wine, Shelly suggested that murder might be the only option — a thought that was enough to have you heading to bed for an early night.
But he haunted your dreams — or, rather, memories of him haunted your dreams.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
You smiled up at him, clumsily tugging at his belt. Gravel dug into your knees, but you didn't care. He was the only thing you cared about.
"You don't have to —" he stopped himself the moment his belt came undone and your fingers started to work on the fastenings of his pants.
"I want to," you told him, already licking your lips.
You reached into his pants and into his boxers, and pulled out his cock. For a few seconds, all you could do was stare at it. Perfect, the omega part of you thought. Mine.
He groaned as your hand started to move, stroking up and down his shaft. Your eyes stayed fixed on his cock, marvelling at it as it pulsed and grew harder in your hand, the tip quickly starting to leak. He stopped breathing all together when you leaned forward and dragged your tongue along his length.
And, by the time you wrapped your lips around him, you knew that he was yours.
You went slowly at first, your hand chasing your lips, ensuring that not an inch of him went unworshipped — because that was what it was. Worship. Blowjobs were usually a means to an end, a way to shut a guy up. At least, that's what they'd been before Billy. But, with Billy you wanted it. You wanted to worship him.
You looked up through mascara-thick eyelashes and moaned at the look on his face.
"Fuck, omega," he groaned. "You're perfect. I'm never letting you go."
His fingers tangled in your hair and he helped set the pace, giving gentle thrusts into your mouth, groaning with every exhale.
"Such a good little omega," he said. "I can't wait to get you home and make you mine. I'm gonna spend all night inside you."
You woke with an awkward gasp the moment he started to come, and found your pyjamas soaked with slick. Embarrassment caused your whole body to heat — it had been a long time since a dream had managed to get you so wet. Longer still since you'd had to deal with the consequences. There was no way that the longing ache between your thighs would go away on its own.
You hated yourself the moment you slipped your hand into your bottoms, letting your fingers trail through the slick to find your clit. You bit your lip, holding back a moan.
It didn't take long to make yourself come but, by the time you managed to get back to sleep, it was almost time to wake up.
Despite spending twenty minutes scrubbing yourself in the shower before bed, the next morning you got up and showered again, making sure every last trace of him was gone before getting ready for class.
You were tired, and something felt... off. Wrong. Anxiety, maybe. It was hard to say, but it had been growing inside of you since waking up in his bed the previous morning.
The mark on your neck had faded a little but it still needed to be covered in make-up. It would never fade completely, not unless you could find away out of the bond.
You grabbed your bag, before pulling on your jacket and leaving the apartment. As you made your way downstairs, you told yourself that you were going to have a normal day, that you were going to get through your classes and try not think about Billy or the dream you'd had.
Which lasted right up until the moment you stepped outside and found him in front of your building; the living embodiment of sin all wrapped up in a dark suit.
He smiled as you faltered and glared at him, then at the car behind him. A sleek, black town car with a driver, no less.
"Good morning," he said. "How did you sleep?"
Shame coiled in your stomach at the mention of sleep.
"What are you doing here?" You didn't bother trying to hide your annoyance. "How do you know where I live?"
"I run a private security firm. It wasn't difficult to find you."
You just stared at him, lost for words.
"I thought I could give you a ride to campus."
The way he said ride had your cheeks heating and you head instantly shaking.
"No thanks. I'll take the subway."
Not waiting, you started to walk, slinging your bag over your shoulder as you went.
No part of you thought that it was going to be that easy to get rid of him. So, you weren't surprised when, a moment later, he appeared at your side and fell into step with you.
You sighed but said nothing.
"You're still mad about last night..." he said after a minute of silence.
"About last night? No, I'm mad about this whole fucking thing."
He ran a hand over his face and let out a sigh of his own.
"I get that this is a lot, but —"
"Oh, you get it, do you? That's nice. I'm glad you understand." You snapped. "I didn't want any of this. I don't want an alpha, I don't —"
"I know you're upset, but that's not my fault." For the first time you heard a sharpened edge to his tone and, when you dared to glance at him, you realised that his facade was finally crumbling.
"How is it not your fault? You're the one who claimed me —"
"You're the one who doesn't remember."
"So you're saying it's my fault?"
At some point both of you had come to a stop, and you had turned to face him. Your fingers gripped the strap of your bag, desperately trying to keep yourself from punching him. Or pulling him closer. You weren't sure which.
"You're not the only getting hurt here," he said.
You laughed. "No, it must hurt you so much knowing that you can't have something. Poor little rich boy."
"Just because you can't remember, doesn't mean I forced you into this," Billy countered. "I never wanted an omega —"
"Then why are you doing any of this? Why can't you just leave me alone?"
"I never wanted an omega before you."
Silence fell and, when you dared take a breath, you realised that you could smell his frustration. Your throat bobbed as you awkwardly tried to swallow around the lump that rose and stuck in your throat.
There was something in his eyes, in the way he was looking at you — a demand, no a plea — like he was desperate to make you understand but didn't know how. It caused a sickening sensation to swell in your stomach. A second later the look was gone, and you realised that he was someone used to having to hide his emotions. You weren't sure why, but you felt a pang of sadness at the thought.
"Just —" he tried again after taking an awkward breath, "— all I'm asking for is a chance. I'm trying to be nice here."
You scoffed at that. "How is this nice?"
"Because you know there are other ways I could do this," he answered back, that hint of sharpness in his voice again. "But I don't want to force you into anything. I want you to understand and remember —"
"I don't know what you think I'm gonna remember. I've never wanted an alpha — I don't know what you think happened the other night, but I guarantee you didn't change my mind."
"Right, because of your father..."
It was like being dropped straight into an ice bath, your body going cold from shock at his words. How did he know about your dad?
"How did you —"
"You told me," he said softly, delicately, as if he knew how sensitive a subject it was for you. "You told me how he treated your mom... and how he treated you when you first presented as omega..."
Your jaw throbbed from the way your teeth were clenched together, and your fingers tightened their grip on your bag.
Your father had treated your mother like crap and he hadn't wanted another omega in the house. He practically walked you to the front door just to make sure you left the moment you were old enough to leave for college. He was what you thought of when you thought about alphas — a nasty, pathetic little man who only cared about himself.
Beneath you, the sidewalk trembled and you heard the screech of breaks on metal. The subway. There was no way you'd make your train now.
"Great," you muttered, finally managing to tear your eyes from him to look in the direction of the station. "Thanks a lot, now I'm going to be late for class."
"I can drop you off."
"Why would I —"
"Because I'm trying to be nice — all I'm doing is trying to be nice." The frustration was there again. Billy wasn't used to not getting his way. "Or I can give you the money for a uber..."
You considered the offer for a moment. An uber would take too long, and you couldn't miss class. It was hard enough to keep up with everything when you needed schedule your studies around your heats, and lately you'd been struggling just to keep your head above water.
"Fine. You can drop me off." You said through gritted teeth.
His hand shot up, giving a wave, and before you could figure out what was going on, the sleek black car was pulling up beside him. The driver jumped out and opened the back door, and Billy ushered you towards it.
You tried not to overthink it as you got into the back of the car. The driver closed your door, then moved around the other side to let Billy in.
Billy smiled as he fastened his seatbelt.
"If it makes things easier for you, I could get you your own driver, so —"
"This is a one time thing," you interrupted before he could get any ideas. "I'm only letting you drop me off because you made me miss my train."
"I'd just feel better if —"
You silenced him with a single look.
You knew what he was implying. That an omega — his omega at that — shouldn't be taking the subway alone. That you weren't capable of looking after yourself.
It didn't occur to you until you were across the bridge and into Manhattan that he hadn't needed to ask where you wanted to be dropped off. He hadn't even told the driver. But, despite your growing curiosity and annoyance, you didn't ask. You kept your eyes fixed out the window until the car pulled up on campus.
The driver got out of the car and you waited for the door to open, but it didn't.
"What time do your classes finish?" He asked.
You let out another sigh. "Why?"
"Because I want to take you to dinner tonight," he said. You opened your mouth to protest, but Billy continued. "There's no changing what's already happened, so we need to find a way to deal with this — with us — whether you want to or not."
"I'd prefer not."
"You know it doesn't work like that. You're claimed now. You're my responsibility."
"I can look after myself," you snapped.
"I know you can but this isn't about that. I'm your alpha and I have a duty —" he stared at you as you tried to interrupt "— I have a duty to ensure your well-being now, so we need to figure this out. Together."
He was right. You knew he was right, and that there was really no getting around it. As an alpha, he had taken on full responsibility for you and your welfare the moment he'd claimed you. He'd also gained an inordinate amount of control over your life.
As much as you hated to admit it, he was being nice. He was offering, giving you the illusion of choice. As your alpha, he was well within his rights to pull you out of law school, force you to quit your job, and make you move in with him. Put simply; he could take over your entire life if he wanted to. But, despite how much he claimed to want you, he hadn't tried to do any of that.
Why he hadn't was another question you didn't want to ask.
"Fine," you said, managing to force the word out. "My last class is at 5 but, if we're going to dinner, I want to be able to go home first so I can change."
"Okay, I'll send the car for you at —"
"You don't need you too —"
"Please, stop fighting me," he said, exhausted. "It's quicker and safer than the subway, and it means you won't have to rush. I'll book a table for 7 and meet you at yours at 6:30."
With a wave of his hand, your door was opened by the driver. You huffed your agreement before climbing out, instantly noticing how much attention the car had drawn.
"Have a nice day, omega," Billy called after you as you started to walk away. "I'll see you tonight."

Chapter One
Everything hurt.
Not in a way that had you wondering if you’d been in an accident, but the kind of aching hurt that tended to follow a good night out.
The room was spinning so much that it took you a few moments to realise that it wasn’t even your room, that you weren’t in your own bed, and you weren’t alone.
How much did you have to drink last night?
When the answer didn’t immediately come to you, you gave up on the question completely. You’d never been any good at keeping track of your drinks. Ultimately, it didn’t matter. What was done was done — and, judging from the ache between your thighs, it had been done several times and very enthusiastically. Besides, it wasn’t the first time you’d gotten blitzed out of your mind and woken up next to some random guy.
A random guy who...
Oh shit.
Your nostrils flared as you caught a scent that cut through the lingering aroma of sex, sweat, and alcohol.
Alpha. You’d gone home with an alpha.
You took a slow breath, trying to ignore the effect his rich scent had on your omega senses, and tried to fight off the urge to curl against him and press your face to his neck. It was like something inside of you was pulling towards him, desperate for just a few more minutes in his presence. You tried to remember the night before, anything that might explain how you’d come to wake up in his bed.
You’d broken up with Kyle after class, just before your shift at the coffee shop. It hadn’t been pretty, and he’d had the nerve to accuse you of cheating, even though you knew he’d been through half the girls in his class. But the disintegration of your three year relationship had left you feeling like shit, so Shelly, your roommate and work-wife, had demanded you go drinking with her.
She’d ordered shots — so many fucking shots.
She’d dragged you from bar to bar until, finally, you’d ended up in some super exclusive club. The bouncer had let you both in because he knew Shelly (and by knew, you assumed in a very biblical sense). Then, as she always did, Shelly kind of vanished, leaving you alone at the bar nursing your drink and a painful feeling of abandonment.
Then he’d appeared beside you, offering to buy you a drink and not taking no for an answer.
"Just one drink — what's the harm?" He said.
"No, thank you," you said, barely able to look at the alpha without your cheeks heating, overwhelmed by every little thing about him from his scent to the way his dark eyes seemed to look through you and right down to your soul.
“There's no need to be shy, little omega. I promise you won't regret it.”
Your eyes rolled at the memory of the words but you couldn’t judge him too harshly because it had clearly worked.
Looking down, you realised that his hand was on your thigh, his fingers possessively splayed between your legs. You reached for it and eased it away. His fingers instantly curled, missing the contact.
Your heart threatened to stop when a soft grumble spilled from him and he turned towards you. He was still fast asleep but, finally, you could see his face.
Okay, yeah, even by alpha standards he was hot, and that made you feel a little better about falling into bed with him. But he was definitely older than you — ten, fifteen, maybe even twenty years older. You couldn’t tell. He looked like he took care of himself, from the obviously moisturised skin of his face, down to his toned chest and abs, and —
Your eyes shot back up the moment they strayed a little too low and you realised that, just like you, he was completely naked.
As you cautiously sat up, your whole body protested and ached. The stained sheets that were bundled at the foot of the bed, further confirmed that you’d spent a lot of last night having hot, messy sex.
You needed a shower and at least another twenty hours of sleep to recover, but you knew you’d get neither of those things there. No, you needed to get up and get out of there before he woke up and things got even more awkward.
You lifted yourself out of bed slowly and bit back a groan at the ache between your legs. Fuck, had he knotted you last night? You cast a glance back to his naked body, this time letting your eyes dip lower to take in the... uh, sheer size of him and, honestly, you couldn’t tell if the ache was from a knot or just from how enthusiastic you'd been.
Not that you had much to go on. He was technically your first alpha, and you’d never been knotted before, so —
Shaking your head, you forced the thought away. It was something else you didn’t want to think about.
The empty bottles on the floor helped explain your hangover, and brought back a wonderfully embarrassing memory of you pouring champagne over your breasts and him licking it up. All things considered, it seemed like you’d had quite a night, and it would have been a lie to say that the thought of his lips on you, worshipping your body, didn’t send a tingle of arousal through you.
You found your dress in a heap on the floor, next to the torn remains of your panties. As for your bra — you had no idea where that had ended up, and you didn’t have the time to search.
Great, you’d be doing the walk of shame completely commando.
At least your purse was easy to find, dropped on the floor by the bedroom door, your phone still in there but, unfortunately, completely dead.
The alpha — whose name you realised you couldn’t remember — stirred again, and you quickly pulled on your dress.
You slipped out of the bedroom and stopped dead in your tracks at the sight in front of you.
It was a penthouse apartment. His home was so fucking big you could have fit at least three of your tiny apartments into just the sitting area. Floor to ceiling windows looked out over Central Park, telling you that not only were you in Manhattan, but that the alpha you’d spent the night with was disgustingly wealthy.
(Not that it was unusual for alpha's to be disgustingly wealthy, it was just your first time witnessing it.)
Your shoes were easy to spot, one near the sofa and the other — oh, of course this bougie penthouse had an elevator that opened up right into the apartment.
Who the fuck was this guy and why had he wasted his time with you?
Nothing in the apartment gave you any sort of hint about who he was, and you didn’t have time to investigate. No, you wanted to get out of there before he woke up and you had to face the consequences of whatever drunk-you had gotten up to. The Armani jacket on the floor next to your coat told you more than enough. Whoever he was, he was out of your league.
You pulled your coat on but didn’t bother with the shoes, not wanting to make a noise on the hardwood floor.
A sigh of relief escaped you as you reached the elevator and hit the call button. Within seconds the elevator pinged, the doors slid open, and you stepped inside. You hit the button for the ground floor and the door started to close when —
“Omega?”
His voice was a dark rasp that sent a shiver down your spine, and your eyes caught his as he staggered out of the bedroom, still completely naked, and looking just as hungover as you felt. The doors shut and the elevator started to descend.
You looked up and realised that he lived on the 75th floor, and it brought back another strange memory.
“I wanna push the button,” you said, your fingers gripping the waistband of his pants as he walked you backwards into the elevator.
“I think you’ve already pushed enough buttons,” he said, his voice betraying his rapidly fraying control.
You pouted and watched as, instead of pressing a button, he pulled a key from his jacket and slotted it into the panel, and the elevator started to move.
“Fancy,” you said, staring up at him as he crowded closer to you, pressing you back against the wall.
“You have no idea, little omega,” he muttered before his lips covered yours.
You returned the kiss eagerly, moaning against his lips as his hand brazenly slid beneath your skirt and into your —
The elevator dinged, and you quickly exited, wanting to put as much distance between yourself and the memory of his fingers between your legs. You pulled on your shoes as you stepped out into the lobby, trying to ignore the questioning looks from the doorman as you quickly headed outside. Normally you might have felt annoyed by the looks but, given how you felt, you were sure you looked awful.
But you didn’t have time to check or fix your appearance, not when the alpha might have been following.
Thankfully, you still had your metrocard, and it was still early enough that the subway was quiet — though that didn't stop the strange looks you got as you got off in Brooklyn and made your way out of the station. It wasn't surprising, not when you smelled of alpha and looked like hell.
But, again, it wasn't your first walk of shame.
By the time you reached your little sixth floor apartment, you were itching to throw yourself in the shower and scrub away his scent.
"Shell?" You called out as you slipped inside and locked the door behind you.
There was no answer and, as you moved further into the apartment, you realised why. The alphabet magnets on the refrigerator had been arranged to spell C U AT WORK HOPE THE D WAS GUD. You rolled your eyes, already knowing you were going to have to explain the previous night to her in as much detail as you could remember.
You plugged your phone in, and checked the time on the oven — it was almost 10am. You had to be at the coffee shop by midday.
You didn't dare even glance at the mirror as you headed into the bathroom, pulling off your dress and throwing it in the hamper before stepping into the shower and turning it as hot as it would go. For ten minutes you just stood under the water, letting it slowly ease some of your aches and pains before you finally reached for the vanilla body wash to scrub away his scent.
"You smell so good," you groaned, pressing yourself closer to him.
His arm snaked around your waist, and he pressed his nose to your hair. "So do you, omega. I could eat you right up."
"Maybe I want you to eat me up..."
Shaking your head, you tried to force the memory away, and returned to scrubbing your skin raw. Even that didn't completely wash away his scent so when you emerged from the shower, you slathered yourself in vanilla scented moisturiser, hoping to cover it until it faded.
You still felt sore and exhausted, but you felt more human, and you were confident that you could face an eight hour shift.
More importantly, you were confident that you could finally face your own reflection in the mirror.
Big mistake.
The moment you wiped the condensation from the mirror, you saw it.
"No — fuck, no..."
Panic filled you as you pressed a finger to the angry red mark on your neck, the bruised indentation of teeth over your mating gland.
It was a claiming mark.
He had claimed you, taken you as his mate, and you couldn't even fucking remember it.
"No, no, no..." you muttered, pulling and prodding at the reddened skin, looking for any sign that it wasn't what you thought. "Fuck. Fuck..."
You'd literally broken up with Kyle less than 24 hours ago; how could you be mated to a new guy now?
Leaving the bathroom in nothing but a towel, you grabbed your phone — thankfully it now had enough of a charge to turn back on. There were a dozen messages from Shelly, asking where you were, but they weren't important. You needed to try to piece together what had happened last night that had led to your being claimed.
Opening the gallery, you found exactly what you'd expected and feared. A slew of new photos and videos from last night.
They started innocently enough; selfies of you and Shelly at the bar. Then there was a respectable selfie with him.
After that, it was all downhill.
Your cheeks burned as you scrolled through pictures of you and the alpha. He had his nose to your neck, inhaling your scent in one, and his lips pressed to your gland in another. There were photos of you kissing him, holding him, running your fingers through his hair. All the kinds of behaviour that might have been acceptable after mating, but not before.
Sure, you looked drunk in the pictures, but not blackout drunk, not like you didn't know what you were doing. And that made it worse. You'd obviously wanted him — you just couldn't remember how much and why you'd let him claim you.
The pictures got more graphic. There were even videos of you making out in a club — not the one Shelly had abandoned you in, so obviously you'd painted the town red with the alpha. His lips and nose kept returning to your gland, and despite the thrumming music in the background, you could hear him telling you that you smelled divine, that he needed to taste you, needed to have you. And you —
You stopped the video the moment you started whining, making the sort of purely omega sounds that you usually only made during your heats.
The next few pictures were on a dark street, of him pressing you against a car. Still, you seemed aware enough to know what you wanted because you were happily documenting it, like you did every other fun night out. Like you had done with Kyle before the breakup.
As much as you might have wanted to spend the rest of the day dealing with the shock, you had to get ready for work.
It was an effort to keep from trembling as you dried your hair, pulled on your uniform, and did your make-up. Something inside you felt... wrong. Worry, or maybe anxiety over being claimed. You weren't sure. The only thing you were sure of was the fact that you couldn't just waltz into work with a claiming bite on your neck.
You tried to ignore it and force it aside. You could think about it after work, talk it through with Shelly, and try to figure out just what the fuck you were going to do. Between the two of you, maybe you could find some way of getting out of a mating.
Unfortunately, you underestimated your best friend because the moment you set foot in The Daily Grind, her eyes narrowed on you.
You slipped into the back to hang up your coat and drop your purse, and took a moment to check yourself in the mirror. The make-up on your neck was holding up, but it was more obvious than you would have liked.
"So..." Shelly prompted as you stepped behind the counter.
You shrugged and ignored her, pulling on your apron, and pretending like you were checking stock.
"That good?" Shelly asked. "Or that bad?"
Despite knowing it was futile to try to ignore her, you kept your back to her. After around twenty seconds, you felt a hand on your shoulder and allowed yourself to be pulled around.
Her smile dropped as she looked at you, replaced by concern.
"Shit, what happened?" She asked.
She cupped your cheek and looked into your eyes, and — well, clearly you hadn't done as good a job as you'd thought with your make-up, because she was looking at you like you were half-dead.
"I'm fine. It's nothing. I —"
"What's on your neck?" She asked sharply. You weren't sure if she'd noticed the actual mark or just the excessive foundation. "Did someone hurt you?"
"No, I just —" you stopped as your voice trembled, and tears prickled the corners of your eyes.
"What the fuck is going on?" Shelly demanded. "If someone hurt you —"
"I don't know what happened."
"Did someone put something in your drink?"
"No, I — I don't think so." You blinked, trying to keep yourself from crying. "But I... I don't remember what happened. And he..."
"What? What did he do?" She said as softly as she could manage — which, honestly, wasn't all that softly because she was considering murder.
You let out a shuddered sigh and tilted your head, letting her get a better look at the messy make-up caked over the claiming bite.
"He bit me..." you said. Shelly looked at you blankly. "He claimed me."
"He claimed you?" She said, her voice louder, even angrier than before. "Did you want him to? Did you say he could? Did he force you?"
"I don't know. I don't think so." You let out a huff and leaned back against the counter, arms folding over your chest. "I can't explain it. I... I keep remembering parts of last night; I was happy, enjoying myself with him. But I don't remember agreeing to let him claim me."
She shot you another confused look, so instead of fighting to find the words, you pulled out your phone, and handed it to her with the gallery open.
"I think I liked him," you said. "But I don't know why I'd ever agree to this..."
Shelly's confusion only deepened as she saw how happy you were in all of the photos. She'd seen you blackout drunk enough times to recognise it, and you weren't wasted in any of the pictures.
She handed the phone back and took a few seconds before speaking again.
"So, he didn't hurt you or force you, but you don't remember it?" She asked. You shook your head. She fell silent again, considering for a moment more. "Hang on..." She pulled out her own phone and typed something. "I'm sure I remember something from omega pre-med..."
Something from before she'd decided that she preferred the party life to the college life and had dropped out — a decision that you often envied.
You remained silent, knowing better than to disturb her while she was thinking. Shelly was smart; if anyone could figure this out, it was her.
"Post-mating amnesia," she declared, flashing her phone screen as if the medical journal she'd found would mean anything to you. "Sometimes called claiming brain-fog — rare phenomenon... blah, blah, blah — when an omega is claimed in a heightened emotional state, dopamine and endorphin spikes can cause something similar to a fugue state."
"What does 'claimed in a heightened state' even mean?"
"That the dick was that good," Shelly said, shrugging.
You slapped her arm. "Not funny."
Her attention returned to her phone for a second, her expression softening before she looked back up. "Oh, come on, this guy obviously really did something for you. Maybe it's not such a bad thing —"
"Are you fucking kidding?" You barely kept yourself from yelling. "I'm mated to a guy I don't even know — what the fuck am I supposed to do?"
"Get to know him? See if you remember anything or if you feel anything?"
"What else does it say?" You asked, ignoring her suggestion and trying to snatch her phone.
"Nothing. Just boring omega brain chemical analyses that your dumbass wouldn't understand," she said, smirking playfully. "Everything in here seems to suggest that it's something that happens when you really want it. So, I think you need to figure out why you wanted it..."
"Does it say anything about getting rid of it?"
Shelly rolled her eyes. "C'mon, even you know that's not how it works. It can take years for an unwanted mating bond to break. If it breaks at all."
"Great," you muttered sarcastically, "guess I'll have to wait years then..."
"Do you really think that's an option?" She asked. You didn't answer. "Maybe you should find him and try to work it out?"
You gave a grumbled response, about to say something about not wanting to work it out and just wanting it to go away, when a customer approached the counter for a large matcha macchiato and a cinnamon roll. It was a nice distraction, but it didn't last.
So, you found other distractions, like refilling the refrigerator and grabbing more pastries from the back.
The whole time, Shelly watched you, not saying anything. She knew well enough that when you were annoyed it was best just to leave you to it. From time to time, you'd catch her looking at her phone, then at you. It made you wonder if she knew something that she wasn't telling you.
Things slowly started picking as the lunch rush began. Usually it was the time of day you dreaded, but today, you were glad of the distraction. Soon enough, almost every table was full, and you and Shelly were constantly alternating between making drinks and cleaning up.
He stepped into the coffee shop and everything fell silent.
Billy.
Seeing him again shook the memory loose and you remembered his name.
His eyes caught yours, and your legs went weak beneath you, the aching between your thighs serving as a reminder of what you'd spent the night doing with him.
He looked — well, fuck, he looked immaculate.
He'd looked handsome in bed, fast asleep with his hair tousled, but now, in his pristine black suit, hair slicked back, and his dark eyes wide awake? He looked so good you were sure he was the devil.
And it wasn't just you that noticed. No, the moment he stepped through the door, it was as if he took up all the space in the tiny coffee shop. Everyone with acute enough senses (mostly the omega customers) knew what he was right away.
But Shelly didn't need omega senses, not when she caught the way he was looking at you as he approached the counter, like a predator stalking towards its prey.
"Holy shit," she muttered to you. "The photos did not do him justice."
All you could muster was a nod.
"There you are."
Just the sound of his voice sent a shiver running down your spine and stirred memories of some of the filthier things he'd whispered into your ear last night when he'd been inside you.
(You're mine. This perfect body, this tight little cunt — it's all mine, omega. I'll never let you go.)
"What —" you tried to speak, but your mouth suddenly felt dry "— how did you find me?"
If he could sense your discomfort, he didn't let it show. He just smiled at you.
"You told me you worked here," he said.
(Had you? Why would you tell someone like him where you worked?)
"Do you want me to make him leave?" Shelly asked, and you couldn't even tear your eyes from him.
"What do you want?" You asked him.
"To see you," he said simply. "You left without saying goodbye. I was worried."
You simply stared at him. How could he be so cool and collected? Why wasn't he freaking out? Oh God... had it been deliberate?
His eyes dropped to your neck, to the sloppy cover-up job you'd done on his claiming mark, but anything he might have felt remained hidden by that smile. This, you realised, was a man who liked to remain in complete control at all times. A strong, dominant alpha.
And that could only mean one thing...
"You claimed me," you blurted out, somehow keeping your voice low enough so as not to alert the entire shop.
"I did."
"Why?"
Finally, there was a flicker of emotion — not much, just the slightest twitching at the corner of his eye. "What do you mean why?"
"I mean —"
Behind him someone cleared their throat, and you realised that, in the time he'd been standing there, a small queue had formed. Billy glanced over his shoulder with a casual indifference at the two frustrated betas.
"When do you finish?" He asked. You told him 6 and he damn near rolled his eyes. "When's your break?"
"I only just started."
"Fine. I'll wait. In the meantime, I suppose I'll take an Americano and —" he leaned a little to look at the pastries, "— a chocolate muffin."
You worked on autopilot, unsure what to say or do. You rang up his order, plated his muffin, and Shelly told him to go sit down and wait for his coffee.
As you got back to work, Shelly muttered; "do you want me to spit in his drink?"
The laugh that bubbled out of you helped relieve some of the tension, but the sound was enough to have him looking your way again as you continued to serve customers.
"If you want me to get rid of him —" Shelly started again.
"No. I need to find out what the fuck is going on before I get rid of him."
"So, you're just gonna send him away?"
"Of course I'm going to send him away — what the fuck else am I gonna do?"
Shelly finished his order and didn't even ask before taking it to him, roughly placing it down in front of him and muttering something you couldn't hear. When she came back, she gave you a smile, obviously proud of herself.
The lunch rush continued, and he just sat there. When he wasn't staring at you or slowly picking away at his chocolate muffin, his eyes were on his phone. Given the impressive size of his apartment, you had to assume that he was missing work to be there, watching you. You did everything you could not to look at or even think about him, ignoring the problem until it was time to deal with it.
After some prodding from Shelly, you took your lunch break, grabbing a latte with a double espresso shot and a cinnamon roll.
Billy's eyes lifted from his phone to watch you as you approached him and sat opposite. He looked at you, then at your lunch, and back again, his expression betraying an unasked question.
"What?" You asked.
"Is that all you're going to have?" He asked. "Did you have breakfast this morning?"
There was no containing your confusion. Or your irritation. "How is that your business?"
"Because you're my —"
"I'm nothing to you."
He set his jaw and took a second, biting back his frustration. "The mark on your neck says otherwise, omega."
"Well, I don't remember you asking permission to —"
"You don't remember?" There was that twitch at the corner of his eye again. He had a good poker face; you had to give him that much, but his emotions betrayed him whenever you brought up last night.
"No. I don't," you said flatly. "All I remember is waking up in your bed this morning with no idea of where I was or who you were."
He visibly paled.
"You don't know who I am?" His eye twitched again and his discomfort spread to the rest of his body causing his shoulder to tick upwards. "You don't remember any of it?"
"I know your name is Billy — I remembered that much when you walked in, but the rest..." you trailed off into a shrug. "Look, I don't really care how or why this happened. I just want to fix it. I want it gone. I don't want to be claimed."
"It's a little late for that."
"I don't care. You need to find a way to —"
"No."
You stared across the table at him. "No?"
"No," he repeated. "You're mine now, so you need to get used to it. I didn't force you into this, sweetheart, and I sure as shit didn't trick you."
"Sweetheart?" You repeated. "You listen to me; I'm not and will never be yours. I'm my own fucking person and —"
"Not according to the law."
The smile on his lips made your stomach turn. He was right. Worse, you knew he was right. He was an alpha, and you were just an omega, and the claiming mark on your neck meant something. It meant that you were his.
"So, what? You're gonna force me to be with you?" You asked through gritted teeth.
For whatever reason, that got a reaction from him.
"No. I would never force you to do something you didn't want."
"You already are," you said. You waited for a response but got none. "Why are you here? I won't change my mind. I don't want an alpha."
"We rushed things last night," he said, slipping back into that easy and controlled tone, "but I'm a man who always gets what he wants." He sat back and you said nothing. "I want you, omega. I'll do whatever it takes to win you over."
"How are you gonna do that?"
"I'm going to be here, in your life. You're not going to shut me out."
Realising that he was insane and unwilling to see reason, you pushed back your chair and got to your feet. The moment you turned to walk away, he stopped you.
"Don't forget your lunch, omega."
It took every ounce of restraint not to throw your drink over him as you grabbed your mug and plate, and stormed off to sit in the back room.
A/N : 😅 I hope you're all ready for the drama. If you missed the other posts about this fic, it's going to be shorter and much faster paced (about 3/4 chapters in total). This is the first thing I've written entirely in Ellipsus so if the formatting seems weird that might be why (also the spell check on ellipsus is weird, but I think I caught most typos). Anyway, how you all had a great two weeks. (I spent my break from writing having an existential crisis about my writing thanks to booktok drama, so I'm glad to be back posting weekly 😅😅)
As always I love and appreciate every like/comment/reblog and keyboard smash of love. Thanks so much for reading! Hope you all have a great weekend!
If you'd like to be tagged, please let me know! Otherwise new chapters will be posted around 7:30pm GMT on Fridays.

Hello,
