So did Bin Laden use Foundation as a kind of imaginative sounding-board for the creation of al-Qaida? Perhaps reading the book in his pampered youth, and later on seeing his destiny in terms of the ruthless manipulation of historical forces? Did he realise much earlier than anyone else that the march of globalisation would provide opportunities for those who wanted to rouse and exploit the dispossessed?

In memory of the 2 996 people killed on 9/11/2001. We must also remember that firefighters and police who responded on that horrific day are also victims. 

Many firefighters died of cancers associated with the smoke and debris, as they heroically tried to save innocent people. At least 6000 people were injured. 

Children lost fathers, mothers, siblings, grandparents. People took flights in good faith and sent their last moments warning other potential victims and saying goodbye to loved ones. 

People trapped in the flaming towers who knew they had no chance of survival desperately contacted their loved ones before the end. Many were forced to jump to their deaths by the blast, mistakenly believed to be committing suicide. 

Terrorism is wicked. We must continue to fight it.
