The Auxiliary Characters
SPECIAL TRIVIA: since Beau is named after a legendary horse—specifically Bucephalus, the horse of Alexander the Great—I decided to keep that trend with these two. Alsvythrr is named for Alsviðr, one of the horses that pulls Sol’s chariot in Norse Mythology. Shahrach is named after Šarac, the talking piebald horse of Prince Marko in Serbian legend. Both of their spellings are my attempts at being as phonetic as possible, as I tried to find those names’ pronunciations, hehehehe. P.S. I realized too late that I made them both pure golds, when I’d wanted to make them mutts like those two Stars we know. But eh, I’d already colored these two gold like that, and honestly they look too fancy to be regular dragons anyhow. =P I’ll have to make proper Star Mutts later. X3
Gold Star-Class Dragons: Alsvythrr and Shahrach
Alsvythrr is an ancient dragon, one of the few Gold Star-Classes from the days before the dragons were re-bred. He was a sunny, bright fellow, and watched over a group of humans that he loved dearly. None of them were Priests or anything of the like, they were simply good people whom Alsvythrr adored. They rode with him with their own dragons, and for a time, everything was well. One tranquil, starry night out in the wilds, the group made camp and was resting. The lands had been peaceful for a long time now, following the recovery from the war. It was hoped that this peace would last for much longer yet, but...it was not to be. A group of people and newly dragon who’d been bred away from gold again came upon them, and Alsvythrr tried his best to save his people. But they perished—defending him, no less. In his sorrow and rage, Alsvythrr burned the men with the force of his mag energy, and injured the dragons before he scared them off. Now, the wise but jaded gold wanders the borders of the Wastelands. He wants so badly to abandon Dragon-City, which he knows to be the epicenter of the blasted re-breeding. But he senses something amiss within the canyon...and awaits a sign that he’s needed for...something...
Shahrach, while not quite as old as Alsvythrr, is also one of the last Gold dragons. Whereas Alsvythrr lived out and about in the world, Shahrach herself was hatched in the heart of the young Academy. She was meant to be raised as one of its teachers, one of its mightiest dragons and to be a figure for other dragons to look up to. But as the years went by, and the gold dragons became fewer and fewer once more, some of the Priests that were in the Academy at the time were worried as to Shahrach’s fate if she remained in the open. They had planned to take her away from the Academy, to a secret temple where she could be safe. But Shahrach refused to leave the people and dragons behind, she knew they’d need her help and her guidance. Some gold presence had to remain behind, even if it was a secret. Without gold, there would be no balance, and without balance the world would tip and fall into war again. So, the Priests complied with the Star’s wish, and worked with those of the Academy the trusted to set up a hidden wing in the Academy’s heart. Somewhere Shahrach could live in peaceful solitude, but where, when those who needed her came to a special room, she could speak to them through the gated, opaque window. Oh, yes, she could speak; a special gear was fashioned for her out of gold and grey draconium, one not unlike the Prophet Gear of today. She could speak through it, and advise those who came to her window. To this day, very, very, very few people even know of Shahrach’s existence. Only the Headmaster of the Academy and his most trusted colleagues know, and they keep that secret guarded more preciously than anything.
