I have randomly picked this book up believing it would be YA book since I am not completely ready to jump into Adult UF. Seriously, High Voltage is begging to be picked and devoured. But I am not yet ready, no matter how much I want to be. Anyway, reading the summary alone, I was like… “why not? This feels different!”, and bang! Here we are. Thank you so much for sticking up with me… I am certainly picking my pace since I found inspiration a month or so ago. Slowly I am increasing my monthly # of books. Maybe I can go beyond my 15 books I have decided to read when January 1st rolled out. But, let’s hear the summary and then jump onto my two cents, that is my review.
Amy has a secret: no one’s ever held her hand. She doesn’t even know how to hug. Everyone thinks she’s smart, but straight A's are way easier than making friends. Then she meets Dane, a golden-haired surfer whose easy charm and hot touch teach her what she longs to know.
Dane lives for the salty breeze and a sweet wave, because that’s all he has. He’s been on the streets since he was fourteen. A drifter. Homeless. Then he meets Amy. Smart and accomplished, she’s everything he’s not. He wants to be the sort of man who deserves her.
Except that means facing down his past—and that past might very well swallow them both. (less)
How To Say Goodbye was…. contemporarily romantic and probably age appropriate, to some extent. But oh damn, the second-hand embarrassment. Amy has never been touched (whatever touch you can think of), she feels like a damn robot going about her life, doing what’s expected of her... but even then, she might find someone with just the same amount of desires and life, with Dane. Don’t get me wrong, this 18-yo has been touched before and carries a different set of luggage, but these two might be perfect for one another for their differences and their need to disentangle from their pasts in a healthy way.
I know... super short review, but that’s all I could come up with after a week. I had a draft in my head right after finishing reading it but decided to sleep because of the time the next morning I woke up with a migraine. A very needy migraine. I lasted hours and when It was finally gone I was bone deep tired. It wasn’t a lucky week, because I had it daily, and only now I managed to remember pieces of my masterpiece from that day!
