At 13, when other kids were having their first experiments with dating and relationships, I was told that "dating is for marriage" and "you should only date someone if you plan to marry them" so I'm "not allowed to date until you're 18." I internalized that shit so hard that I thought having a crush was a sign from g*d that they were my soulmate which, predictably, caused toxic attachment behaviors that I'm still working to undo 23 years later.
