Present vs. Future in Digital Signage Kingdom
From time to time, people ask me about digital signage. Why do we need it? Who use it? Who needs it? The answer I give them is usually highly detailed. I can answer in ONE word: EVERYBODY!
No more old message boards. No more carton signs. No more paper. No more neon lights.
The digital signage which is mainly divided to the Android digital signage and to the Windows based digital signage has and still conquering territory after territory.
Today you can find the digital signage on small screens and big screens, TVs and tablets. You’ll find it at the supermarket while waiting on the line to the cashier, at the shopping mall, in the store windows, in the streets (mainly in big junctions), sometimes on highways. You’ll find it at the hotel, building lobby, in the elevator. You might expect it at the school, college and at the university. While you’re going there, you’ll see the Android signage in the taxi, in the bus or at the train station. If you fly by airplane, expect to find it at the airport.
And what about going out (before going out stop at the ATM and you'll find the signage there as well)? Yes, you’ll find it at the coffee shop, restaurant (eMenus), big screens at the bar and, in the evening, at the night club on the wall. Do you think you can escape it? No. Enter the washroom and you’ll find one there, built-in in the hand drying machine or the soap machine…
When you have an appointment at the clinic, you’ll find there a screen or two as well. Also at hospitals and other healthcare institutions. On your way home, when you stop at the gas station to refuel, while waiting, you’ll find yourself staring at a digital signage screen (captive customer?) showing you commercials.
I can keep telling you about more and more places, institutions, live events and so, where you’ll find the digital signage software running on a screen. Or maybe it’s the other way round and the screens find you?
Where will we find the digital signage in the future? Wanna guess? It’s not science fiction. I bet we’ll find inside the toilet booth, more and more in public transportation, in SMBs (Small Medium Business) and who knows where…
The present is a history, the future is a mystery. Same goes for the signage industry…
