Stop idolizing Dutchess Satine. She supported the cultural genocide of her own people. She is not a ‘strong female character’ she supported the destruction of Mandalorian culture, and civilization in favor of the exact opposite of what Mandalorians stood for.

To get this point across, I’m going to first being going into Mandalorian Culture, and secondly, each of these ‘Dar’manda’ aka ‘souless’ as per Mandalorian traditions individuals. I will also be touching on republic hypocrisy in regards to the Mandalorians.

First of all, If you are familiar with Mandalorian Lore, their three biggest values can be summed up as being ‘Glory Family and Honor’ those are recurrent themes.
Glory is what Mandalorians fight for.
Personal Honor is a guiding Factor for a Mandalorian Warrior
You’ve seen The Mandalorian. You’ve seen Dad Djarin and baby Yoda. Family is IMPORTANT. To give you an idea of just how important, of the Resol’nare, the Mandalorians Six Tenants for what it means to be a proper Mandalorian, HALF of which have to do with family.
Those three, are
1. Providing for your Clan
2. Raising your Children as Mandalorians
3. and defending yourself and your family
Why is this relevant? because in the Republic’s eyes the Mandalorians are viewed as monsters and warmongers. For a Republic who has always been about acceptance of other cultures, they are pretty hypocritical when it comes to warrior cultures.
and you are gonna say something about the Mandalorians waging war and having commited genocide in the past. Yes. this is a thing. I am not ignoring this or celebrating it. but the event which led the Mandalorians to develop pacifism as a thing was a pre-emtpive Republic attack on Mandalorian space. the Mandalorians were not at war at the time. Mandalorian space was not supposed to be barren white desert. It was supposed to be a similer to earth. Jungles, deserts, grasslands, forests, seas. it had abundant wildlife which the Mandalorians sport hunted. it had mega fauna. Concordia was an agricultural world.
Kenobi. stfu. you do not have the moral high ground.
Second point why this is bad? The Mandalorians have shown themselves as being more than able to work with other cultures. Legends Lore in SWTOR for example. Chapter XIV Mandalore’s Revenge anyone? the Outlander and the Alliance partner with Mandalore the Avenger in a fight against the Eternal Empire.
or for my Revan lovers, two words. Canderous Ordo. Revan, a jedi, earned the respect of a Mandalorian he had fought against in the Mandalorian Wars.
In other Legends Lore, Boba Fett. Boba kriffing Fett becomes Mandalore and the Mandalorians becomes allies of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo during the Yuzong Vong conflict. He trains Jaina Solo to fight. he his gifted a beskar gorget by one of the Solos so he won’t be beheaded like his father.
In conclusion, genocide was committed on both sides. two wrongs don’t make a right, and YES I am using this ‘be the bigger person’ style rhetoric as a massive ‘fuck you’ to the high and self righteous Republic. BECAUSE THEY CAN’T.
Mandalorian violence was not about cruelty or casual violence for violence’s sakes. it was about testing yourself in combat. it was about facing a worthy foe. If you wanted a Mandalorian’s respect? You kicked their ass. That is why Canderous Ordo fallowed Revan. That is why Mandalore the Indomitable fallowed Exar Kun. Both were defeated in battle and chose to fallow the opponent who defeated them. Seeing the jedi as Worthy opponents is a Compliment from a Warrior culture.
Mandalorians seek worthy opponents and honorable combat as a means of bettering themselves in martial prowess, and personal glory. the lore is FILLED with examples of Mandalorians working together with people for either the common good, or a noble cause etc.
The Republic just chooses NOT to try and understand their culture and work towards peace using genocide as a means of destroying them. an endless cycle of pre-emptive oppression and revenge. and fyi, revenge is not a theme found in Mandalorian stories mostly. But the Republic has wiped out cultures that started wars with them.
Remember the Sith? and yes. The Sith Started the Great Hyperspace war, but when the jedd’aii suddenly banned studying the dark side, They had been studying both until that point, that intolerance led to the first Jedi Schiscm the 100 years darkness and the dark Jedi founding the Sith Order on Korriban. Preaching Tolerance and acceptance of Alien cultures but then choosing not to do it for a cultures they have been at war with is not a new concept for the Republic or the Jedi.
This brings me to ‘Dutchess’ Satine. fyi, Dutchess is a hereditary title for a close relative of Royalty. The Duke of York in the 17th century was literally the King of England’s Brother. if she was the leader of the planet she’d use the Mandalore title. Mandalore. end of story. if you wanted to continue your destruction of Mandalorian culture, call yourself a Queen. but you’re not even on that level are you?
Now. don’t get me wrong. pacifism can be an honorable path to take. Uncle Iroh and Jeong Jeong from Avatar the Last Airbender are WONDERFUL examples of pacifists who have a strong moral compass. As is Gandhi, or Martin Luther King, etc. But my problem with the pacifism of Dutchess Satine, is it is in direct violation of what Mandalorians stand for.
As I mentioned earlier, War, fighting, conflict for personal glory and self improvement, those are CENTRAL parts of a Mandalorian’s identity. when someone outside, or within a culture tries to stripe that away and change it in the name of ‘civilizing’ a culture, it’s called cultural genocide. The fact that The New Mandalorian movement LITERALLY came about after the Republic bombarded Mandalorian space, and the survivors basically said at gunpoint “we’re peaceful” is proof enough.
I am not going to compare this to colonialism or real life minorities. Star Wars is a work of Fiction, and Real Life is filled with tragedy and suffering that I am not going to take away from by making comparisons to REAL PEOPLES who actually endured this kind of tragedy.
I’ve made my point, and I don’t want to disrespect people who went through this in real life by beating a dead horse.
ON TO DEATH WATCH.
Time and again we have seen examples of Death Watch’s brutality, and dishonor.
Pre Vizla burning an innocent village.
Pre Vizla murdering one of his own for failing to kill Kenobi during his dramatic introduction.
His own father founding Death Watch explicitly because the reigning Mandalore Jaster Mareel of the True Mandalorians set down a new set of rules called the Super Commando Codex to further guide and ensure the Mandalorians had a way to be both warriors and ensure their honor.
This is a good solution, that was nullified by the conflict with death Watch and the story of Jango Fett. if it had worked, the Mandalorians would have been able to continue their warrior culture while also having new guidelines for honorable actions. Hell. the Republic could have gotten in on it and hired them. good times for everyone.
Torr Vizla was also extremely violent. He also led the True Mandalorians into a trap and let the locals do most of the dirty work for him before killing off the surviving True Mandalorians.
There is also, at no point in the narrative of Death Watch to we see ANYTHING about Honor or family. The only time we saw this, is when Dinn adopts The Child, and you see his flashbacks. You can see how close he is to Baby Yoda. there is no tight nit community in Death Watch. you don’t see any kind of tenderness with them. No family dynamic.
The members of Death Watch are butchers. They don’t honor their opponents. They idolize violence for violence’s sake. They idolize Conquest because of their past. They idolized the wars of conquest their ancestors fought. They don’t idolize the idea of Family.
Another thing, Death Watch are terrorists. There is LITERALLY a Mandalorian proverb about terror being a coward’s weapon. When there is a literal proverb about your way of life being un-Mandalorian, guess what. You’re not Mandalorian.
In Conclusion, Idolize Jango Fett. Last of the lineage of True Mandalorians.
Mandalorians Had a word for those who turned their backs on Honor and what it meant to be Mandalorian. Dar’Manda. it meant soulless. You would not be joining your ancestors in the Mandalorian afterlife.
Dutchess Satine, the New Mandalorian pacifists, and Death Watch are ALL dar’manda. You ALL tarnish the name Manalorian. Thanks for that Filoni.
Oh, and before I forget. Fuck Maul. He is not Mandalorian. he makes no attempt to Fallow Mandalorian tenents or Creeds or adhere to Mandalorian customs. He doesn’t even wear the armor. The fact that Death Watch so willingly fallows him, proves my point about them too.
