Six hand-written pages of research later, I have a pretty clear idea of how to expand the runes as a phonetic and divinatory system to incorporate modern Swedish sounds and to have the magical meanings of the new glyphs align themselves pretty seamlessly into the existing system. Swedish is my second language and, while I speak it proficiently, I am not a linguist. So, it is a little tricky.
I will be cross-referencing my own system against the Medieval Runes and Dalarna Runes as well Sven Salvenson's system for writing Swedish in runes to make sure that all of the phonetic bases are covered. And, yes, I could use these runes to write in Swedish. But that would only solve part of the issue I have will feeling disconnected from the runes due to their political applications. Although I love my Swedish and Germanic heritage, I am also ethnically Jewish with living observant Jewish family as well as having a Black father. So, as much as I love the runes and love that they are systems with which I can write in modern Swedish, I will still be devising new glyphs for my personal and magical use.
