Ann Miller by Ned Scott, May 1946 🇺🇸
Ann (1923 - 2004) was famous in Hollywood for her astonishing tap dancing speed. Studio publicists loved to claim she could perform more than 500 taps per minute, which helped build her legend as one of MGM most dazzling dancers.
She also danced in extremely high heels something most performers avoided. Ann believed the heels made her legs look more elegant on screen, even during complex routines.
That mix of athletic precision and glamorous sophistication became her trademark in classic musicals alongside stars like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.

Ann Miller
🎬 Ann Miller was famously reputed to tap dance at speeds of up to 500 taps per minute, with some reports even boosting this to over 500-585 taps per minute. Known for her "machine gun" style, she was considered one of the fastest female tap dancers in Hollywood history, with some accounts even suggesting she could execute over a dozen steps in a single second.
Because studio floors were often waxed, making them too slick, she sometimes used special tap shoes with rubber treads to achieve this speed.
