okay wait i love this bc i am notorious for calling my husband by his full name instead of the shortened version like everyone else (jonathan vs jon or nickolas vs nick) and the first time i did call him by his shortened name he looked at me like i was fucking crazy and said "what did you call me?"
SO IMAGINE walk with me here
you're hanging out with jason and you've been friends forever. you're the one person in his life who's normal, not a vigilante or trained assassin or anything like that, so he cherishes the fuck out of you and your friendship. and you're like the one person to call him by his name, making him feel normal
there's no red hood with you, you don't call him lad or chum or son like bruce does, or jay like dick does when he's trying to be a brother. he's just jason - your jason
and he loves that
until the day you call him jay. "jay jay jay, look at this!!" you're too excited to get his full name out, so enamored by the whale shark at the aquarium that you don't even realized what you've called him. he's stopped dead in his tracks as his brain reboots and his entire nervous system gets a shock
"what was that?" he asks in a low voice, right next to your ear, with his hand on the back of your neck. for a second you're sure he's going to scruff you like a cat. but you look over at him and smile when you realize what's happened
"i called you jay. what, you don't like it?" you tease and while his hand is loose on you, more of a comforting weight now, he just shrugs and looks at the aquarium tank that's lighting your face up like the angel that he thinks you are
"i don't hate it." he murmurs
and then after that the only time he enjoys being called jay is when it's coming from you
it rly is crazy that some people act like sam wouldn't have medical knowledge, esp while in the field, when not only are we told in catws he was pararescue but also the entire bit following nat getting shot, he's the one pointing shit out so she doesn't die until they get to a doctor. i also feel like the writers could use that more but alas. sam is so skilled but it's all quite underutilized.
A/n: Just a short little self indulgent tooth rotting fluff drabble. Can you tell I have a savior complex? No beta we die like Caleb and Grandma.

CW: Sylus x GN reader (no pronouns used but please let me know if I glazed over any gender specific descriptors) SFW, tooth rotting fluff, soft sylus, tired sylus, first kiss
Sylus was tired.
Exhausted was a better term. The weeks had been blending together as one business meeting melded into the next, each one providing a new mess to clean up. Every new rival and shady ego-driven businessmen eroded Sylus’ patience like battering waves at seaside cliffs, crashing against the rocky surface and taking pieces of his sanity back with the receding waters. The scent of copper had permeated into his senses and stained half his closet, a painted testament of the long days that had grown cold and irritating.
Entering his room to shrug off his jacket haphazardly and tossing it aside, he allowed himself to collapse against the cool dark leather couch and place his feet on the table, rolling the collected stress from his shoulders and leaning his head back to finally rest. He moved his hand to cover his eyes and rub at the collected stress while heaving an exasperated sigh, the darkness providing the well known and comforting solitude he was accustomed to. It was cold and quiet, like blanketed snow collected after a blizzard, covering the land and plucking the last dry leaf from its branch, the only sound a crisp breeze whistling through twisted and mangled branches.
The click of the bedroom door alerted Sylus and snapped irritation through his head.
”I thought I told you two—“
”Be nice to them, they’re doing they’re best!!”
The sound of your voice sends Sylus to sit up faster than he’d like to admit.
”Sweetie,” The mild shock in his features soon cooled into his usual cool demeanor as he brought his legs down to sit in a comfortable relaxed cross as you walked closer to him. “What are you doing here?”
”Its been longer than usual since I've heard from you.” The vague answer gave room for implications you didn’t want to outright admit.
”Really. Were you… worried about me?” Sylus teased with an inquired brow.
This was the common theme between your relationship, always dancing around one another, a few flirtatious remarks paired with fleeting touches before turning on heel and swaying away. You were ready to throw another quick quip his way, but as you stepped closer you saw his features illuminated by the low light of the room. His once bright carmine eyes were sullen and hugged by dark circles. His skin was dulled and the slight raise in his brow betrayed his fatigue, and you can tell his senses were dulled in the way he mistook you for the twins, he was too observant normally to make such a small mistake otherwise.
You could see it plain as day, Sylus was worn thin. It was jarring to see a man of his stature so human for once. Every encounter with him he held himself high, solving problems and navigating obstacles with ease, overpowering entire rival gangs as a one man army. It was easy to craft the vision of him as omnipotent; unwavering and commanding in the face of adversity, without need for simple comforts of the average man, such as companionship or empathy, or even a comforting embrace. “I prefer the cold, and things that make me strong.” He once said. But the sight before you had raised the question if it was the truth, or a truth he made himself believe over the years.
“Cat got your tongue?”
Sylus broke the now growing silence with his usual remarks. But this time, it felt wrong to feed into the usual banter. He didn’t need back and forth remarks or quick wit at this moment. At least, something nagging in the back of your head told you so. Right now, he was simply a man. A man that was at wits end, one sat on a throne built by blood and bone above the rest, powerful indeed but so… lonely.
As if your body was possessed, you moved to climb tentatively into his lap. You swung your legs to straddle over his thighs and sat gently. Sylus stiffened, unsure of the motive of your actions, a small blush rising in his ears at your sudden proximity. His hands paused at his sides as he calculated your moves, unfamiliar with the new territory you were pushing. His mind went into overdrive and his heartbeat began thumping against the ivory cage that housed his heart, and just as he was about to question what the hell you were doing, he felt your warmth encompass him.
Your arms tightened around his neck as you pressed your chest to him, embracing him in a gentle squeeze. The scent of your shampoo filled his nose and tickled his senses as he relaxed, soon bringing his hands to hesitantly wrap around your waist. The feeling was foreign to him at first, an alarming presence that kicked his adrenaline on high, forcing him to control his ingrained reflexes so as not to hurt you. He took a long breath to steady himself, branding the feeling of your skin on his. You were so soft and warm against him he couldn’t help but nuzzle closer into the crook of your neck, and in that moment Sylus felt everything melt away like the first light of spring, sunlight reaching down to the plains melting away the snow, revealing lush grass and blooming buds.
Pride bloomed into your heart as you felt Sylus relax into your touch, and you began rubbing soothing circling across his back, venturing up his neck to settle at the base of his scalp to begin raking your nail gently through his soft silver locks, prompting a low groan from Sylus as he tightened his lock around your waist and relaxed further into you, nearly knocking you over with his dead weight. You managed to stifle the giggle threatening to spill from your lips as not to ruin the vulnerable moment shared, but as if Sylus could sense the smile stretching across your face, you felt your back hit the couch cushion at dizzying speed. He kept his head tucked into your neck as his long limbs wrapped around yours, ensuring you were able to continue twisting and tugging at his feathery hair.
“Stay with me.” Sylus managed to mumble into your chest.
”I’m not going anywhere.”
Sylus hummed thoughtfully, and soon you felt yourself lifted off the couch and thrown over his shoulder, a small squeak announcing surprise from the rapid change of pace. The sudden tactile change of firm leather to silken sheets told you that he’s moved to his bed, resuming his place curled into your side to continue your previously interrupted attention. In the dimness of the room, time fell away as the two of you enjoyed each other's wordless presence. Sylus may not of said anything in those moments, but you didn’t need him to. You heard him in the way his nose brushed closer to your neck, in the way he melted in your touch. Only when his low groans turned into soft sighs and his weight sunk farther into the mattress you knew he had fallen asleep, with the sandman soon chasing after you aswell.
—
A warm, strong, arms pulls you closer, gently waking you from your slumber. The room comes into focus as you rub the sleep from your eyes, remembering where you were. A small flutter erupts into your stomach when you realize you had fallen asleep with him. Turning around to take a closer look at him, you took in the gentle rise and fall of his chest, the way his hair fell around his face, and the pout of his lip. He looked so soft, so peaceful, your fingers itched to trace the angles of his jaw, and just as you raised your palm to give into the temptation, a sliver of red iris peeked from behind his fluttering eyelashes.
“Hmm, morning.”
Sylus’ voice rumbled low, still heavy with sleep. It was an octave deeper and all gravel, but lacked it’s usual bravado; it sounded like warm honey dripping over velvet, running over your ears and clinging to your skin warm and sticky sweet. Sylus took the opportunity of your current stunned state to lace his fingers with yours and pulled you over him as he turned onto his back, adjusting your leg to sit comfortably over his hip. The sudden intimate position forced you to fight the heat rising in your cheeks and Sylus chuckled, resting his arm behind his head while his free hand settled on your waist, idly caressing it with his thumb.
”What does your day look like today, sweetie? Let’s go shopping, or we can go out for dinner—“
”I’m free today,” You paused Sylus’ offer, knowing he was trying to reciprocate the events of last night in the only way he knew how. But to be cared for was not transactional, you needed him to know that. “But why don’t we just stay inside today instead?”
Sylus’ eye flickered up and down your engaged bodies, and a knowing smirk pulled at the corner of his lip. Once again, you find yourself spun back around with him as he rolls over to loom above you, his warm palm still secured to your thigh.
“And how do you plan to spend the entire day with me while we're inside?” He teased.
“It seems as though you’re content with tossing me around like a rag doll.”
”I can be gentle.”
A squeak escaped your throat at his quick reply, backing your head further into the silk pillows as he inched closer, nearly brushing his nose with yours. He hovered just short of your lips, scanning for signs of discomfort, but all he found was a poorly concealed smile and flickering eyes to his lips. Bringing his folded index finger under your chin, he guided you gently to press a chaste kiss to your lips, savoring the way they slotted perfectly against his own, committing your taste to his memory.
“You just kissed me.” Your eyes fluttered open moments after he pulled away to give you a breath and god, you were smiling like an idiot.
”I did.” Sylus smiled. “And I’ll do it again. After all, we’re staying inside today.”
