Aphanizomenon flos-aquae,AFA,In the early 1980s, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae began as a nutrient-rich human dietary supplement.
It has been proven that Aphanizomenon flos-aquae contains at least 13 different vitamins: vitamin A (β-carotene), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin E, vitamin K and many B-complex vitamins, including B1 (thiamine) , B2 (riboflavin), B6 (pyrox alcohol), choline, biotin, niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid and B12 (cobalamin). [13] However, Pseudomonas grandiflora contains pseudovitamin B12, which can prevent the absorption of real B12, so it is not suitable for use as a source of human B12.
Aphanizomenon flos-aquae contains minerals and trace minerals including calcium, chlorine, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, sodium and zinc.
About 45% of the lipids (fats) in AFA are essential fatty acids. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae contains a balance of linoleic acid (LA, omega-6 fatty acid) and α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid).
I learned a new word the other day. "Aphanizomenon". Doesn't it sound like it should be part of a Muppet song of some sort?
