Comment: i.am.afropolitan said "It was probably the end of spring or about, earlier this year. #Aputumpu in #Boston was wrapping up. I was having a conversation with a couple of ladies at the back corner of the room practicing my insanely bad french on them as we went back and forth on whose "Jollof" was better, #Ghana or #Senegal. Lol The ladies had come to scout a couple off bands I had booked for the festival. I excused my self to go up stage and introduce @Deoband who were headlining and whose leader DannyMekonnen has been insanely kind to me. Danny hooked me up with the #golgolbordello crew when @afropunk did that huge piece on me a few years ago reviewing #whyareyouhere essentially the first time my work was legitimately associated with #fela So I went on stage and hyped the audience up a bit as they were excited to see #Deboband who were headlining. The plan was to head home later that week for the farm in the Midwest with my family away from home, the Pigmans. As I got back to the ladies to swap cards and exchange numbers etc, one of the ladies asked, "so you are the aputumpu guy." I said, "yes" and giggled. Hehe She was working on an idea and thought I would be the perfect person to check it out. We hopped on the phone the following day and I committed to curate and produce the first ever #AfrikCan festival. Www.afrikcan.com The lineup is a dream. The effort has been immense. The lessons, and the stretch has been real. These past few months have been full of long nights of negotiations, going through rieders, communicating with acts I always dreamt of meeting one day. It's been challenging and exciting at thesame time. The pressure ... Hehe #stilldreaming of the farm lol I wanted to add more names and bring more faces with an incredible director and immense team but this is all time will allow. It's not perfect but it's beautiful So for the next few days or so, join me as we make this party happen. Shout out to friends and family who have coped with my need to vent about greedy agents and and mad lawyers. Lol I will be back to sanity soon. We are almost here. Next is the party. #AfrikCan #afrikcanfestival #africatakeover"
