Author's note below the cut, for those interested in my thought process. No archive warnings apply to this work but Rhea's suicidal ideation and trauma from the red canyon is mentioned throughout.

So in February 2025 Fire Emblem Heroes released the Rhea and Sothis duo where, in Askr at least, Rhea is finally reunited with her mother (albeit while still amnesiac). It’s a cute idea for a unit, with some lovely art but something about it nagged at me… especially the idea of it being a happy ending for Rhea.

As someone who loves Rhea dearly precisely because of my own experience of an ever-present grief I’ve often wondered about her character and the idea of a “happy ending”. She is so tragic in the Greek dramatic way nothing in the game seemed to come close, but I wanted to give it a shot. I wanted to create for Rhea a potential way out of her grief that rang true for me.
