Learning Art | Day 9

It has been a while since I last made an art log but I have been busy with christmas prep at home. What I have decided to do for myself is get a course from one of the popluar artist I have seen online and learn some technqiues from him.

So far, he has taught me the human body in it's simpliest form and it's so helpful! I like his teaching style also!

I hope I can get rid of my procrastination and laziness on learning art. I have so many art ideas but lack the skills. Hopefully, my frustration will turn into motivation!

Learning Art | Day 8

I felt a bit under the weather today but I am happy I got to work on this more. This doodle initally started as a nose study, continuing from my last art log, but I want to expand it further.

As I am still not confident on replicating eyes to make them a bit symmertical, I've left it out.

Overall I am happy with the doodle and maybe in the future I will finish it or even improve it!

Learning Art | Day 7

I haven’t been able to do my art studies as I wanted to because the past few days I’ve been busy and then becoming too tired to do anything because of it! But I got the courage to open my tablet and computer and paint something!

One of my other fears I had when I used to draw frequently in the past was the ability to draw noses from different angles. I preferred the font-view version of the nose but anything else I was too scared to try to figure out how to draw. So for today’s study it were noses!

Nose Study 1

I started off with a nose position that was more comfortable with so I can get into the groove of things! The colour seems off to me but I focused more of the structure and getting the sketch good as a starting point. I was feeling a bit confident so I decided to work on another nose study but from a different angle.

Nose Study 2

I struggled on the angle for a while drawing the sketching. I realised for now as a beginner I need to keep looking at references and not just depend on my hunch because I have no references in my head on how to draw noses from the mind so I will continue to use references for now.

Overall I felt happy with both nose studies and tomorrow I will go back and learn Human Anatomy and make a proper schedule for myself!

Learning Art | Day 6

Yesterday I didn't do any art study because I wanted a little break (and I forgot to do it).

For today's study, I found the idea to practise on my lineart skills. I haven't been really following a properly schedule over topics I need to cover, just been winging the studies so far. But after getting some inspiration on Pinterest, I wanted to test my lineart skills.

I referenced from a picture that had lineart in it already and then a real-life image to find the lineart myself. I liked the first one more; it closely aligns to the art style I want. The lineart stuy was more of a "how to add weight to my lines at the right times" and I think I did an okay job.

Overall, I am happy with today's study!

Learning Art | Day 5

Five days straight of learning how to draw, and I am feeling a little bit more confident in my art skills again. For today’s practice, I decided to go online and look up some reference pictures and tutorials that I could use to then recreate with what I already know.

I remember back in school, during my art lessons, the teacher would always have us look for artists, find the artworks, and then try to recreate either in our style or absolutely to their own style. I realized that really helped me back then, so it would be a good idea for me to repeat that strategy now.

Since my main target is to be able to draw Giorno from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, I looked on Pinterest to find pictures of him so I could try and recreate. I followed the tutorials and did the recreation art just so I could see how I could test the brushes available to me and see which one I liked the most in terms of coloring. And I found some!

I would say today was very successful. I feel very happy, very motivated, and just excited for tomorrow so I can continue working on my skills!

Learning Art | Day 4

On day four, I dedicated time to online figure drawing and anatomy videos, challenging myself to apply the concepts to my artwork—an area I find particularly challenging. Opting for traditional pencil and paper over my graphic drawing tablet, I encountered frustration as my attempts fell short of the tutorial.

Despite feeling insecure and discouraged, I recognize the importance of persevering. Imperfection won't deter me; instead, it fuels my determination to keep pushing, knowing that progress takes time and effort.
