he proposes to you on vacation
He Proposes to you on Vacation
"If you could go anywhere, where would you go?" You ask randomly one night; your bodies were entangled and Luke was smoothing down your hair in a soothing manner. You loved nights like these. However, that question caught him off guard.
"Uh... Rome would be nice." He shrugged indifferently, you were 900% sure Luke could care less about Rome. It was probably just the first place he thought of.
"Would you really want to go to Rome?" You question suspiciously, and he chuckles. You can't see his face but you know he has one eyebrow raised and that stupid smug little smirk on his face and you love him for it.
"Y/N, I don't know. Why are you asking?" He lets out a soft laugh at the end of his sentence, traveling wasn't so big of a deal to Luke, after all he'd already been to many places.
"Luke this is really important, if you could go anywhere on this entire planet, where would you want to go?" You ask this time the teasing edge in your voice gone.
"Fine, but don't laugh okay. I would want to go to a small little house on the edge of town. I would want it to look a little worn out, there would be vines and plants and junk growing up the sides. There would be flowers lining a path to the door way, probably roses and the purple kind and there would be so many hedges.
"I would open the door and inside is this cozy little living room that's not even completely clean because people definitely live here. I would hear laughter coming from somewhere in the house and I would search for it curiously. As I walk down the hall I step on a Lego and in this fantasy, I'm not wearing shoes because the house has a no shoes policy and it's stupid but thus are the rules and thus need to be maintained.
"Then I push open a bedroom door and there's this little boy who has like crazy blue eyes and he's laughing because you're here, you're here and you're reading him a story. And it's the funniest retelling of The Three Little Pigs ever because you changed the dialogue. It was too boring for your taste and I've never been happier. Y/N If I could go anywhere I would stay right here. Right here with you because you're the only home I need." Luke finishes and you begin laughing hysterically.
"Who knew you were so cheesy!" You choke out in between fits of laughter. At this point you're already sitting up trying to catch your breath.
"Ha. Ha. Laugh all you want. I thought that, that would be cute. But whatever." Luke grumbles and crosses his arms in a pout. It's quite adorable, but you won't give him the satisfaction of telling him.
"Oh, don't be upset, of course it would be cute. It's what I want too."
"So, you've never been to America, right Y/N?" Michael questions from the seat on the plane next to you. You were flying to America for the first time in your life and you were pretty stoked. It was a vacation for the boys, they were taking a much-needed break and your birthday was coming up so it was like killing two birds with one stone. You were seated next to Michael because Luke had lost a bet of sorts after they found out that you had the best quality television. You didn't care much, though. Sure, you were Luke's girlfriend but you loved the other boys too.
"Nope, first time ever. Luke talked it up quite a bit so let's hope it lives up to expectations." You say a smile plastered on your face as you search through your movie selection.
"Don't worry, Y/N. Where we're going it's terribly underwhelming. You'll probably hate it." Calum chimes in from behind you. Luke shoots him a glare and Ashton chuckles. "Don't fill her poor innocent head with lies. America is the best; their food is questionable. They have weird sayings, but what they lack for in literally everything they make up for in... uhm, well I guess they don't really make up for it. America's great though! Except they drive on the wrong side of the street." Michael's trails off and you roll your eyes. Never mind the fact that every sentence on his little ramble was an oxymoron. You, however, couldn't really care. You were just excited. You've never been outside of Australia, not like the other boys. Plus you'd really missed Luke while he was away and you were glad that you would finally be able to spend some quality time with him.
"Ugh! I am so sick of this." Calum whined in protest, you didn't pay much mind to him however. Today was your birthday and Luke had promised you that you could do whatever you wanted and it just so happened you wanted to take a tour through a historical museum. The other boys didn't have to come, they didn't even want to, but that conversation went a little like this –
"This is going to be so much fun! Oh my gosh I can't wait. We haven't really done anything as a whole together, it'll be refreshing." You were already tying your hair back so there would be no mistaking the design on your t-shirt that had said I heart history. You'd made sure to get matching ones for everyone.
"Wait, we have to actually go with you? I thought you and Luke would do that and we'd just kinda show up a little bit later after we had a much more exciting, fun excursion at the beach." Calum shrugged, which had kind of hurt your feelings.
"Oh, you guys aren't coming?" Your smile dropped and Michael and Calum kind of just looked at each other out of their peripherals and sighed.
"We hadn't planned on it Y/N." Michael finally broke the awkward silence and the tension building in the room.
"Oh." You said, now feeling stupid for having ordered five t-shirts.
"Hey, don't look so sad. Quality time for you and Luke, remember?" Michael tried hopefully, but you were not having it.
"No, it's fine. I get it. You guys are ditching me on my birthday." You pout and cross your arms. Luke was upstairs getting ready and who knew where Ashton was.
"Don't be like this." Calum groaned knowing where this was going.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm fine, completely fine. If you want to do this to me on my day of birth then I get it. Really I do." You sighed dramatically. You knew this would work, it always worked.
"Be strong, Mikey. She's just trying to make us feel bad. Remember we're going to the beach." Calum whispered into Michael's ear as Michael let out his own sigh of defeat.
"Calum, it's her birthday. We'll go with you. Where are the t-shirts?" Michael exhaled loudly, and you couldn't help but let a smile form on your lips as you tossed the two boys their shirts.
Just then a shirtless Ashton, covered in sunscreen and surrounded by inflatable animals waddled into the kitchen. You didn't miss Calum furiously shaking his head in an abort mission manner. You chuckled as you tossed Ashton the t-shirt.
"Ugh we have to go to that!" Ashton groaned and with a warning look from Michael amended with, "I mean we get to go to that?" --
So yeah, you were pretty dang happy right now. You convinced not one, not two, but all four of the 5sos boys to come to a history museum with you. There went their bad boy rep. You chuckled to yourself at the thought. Luke had a lax grip on your hand as you followed the tour guide, it was just you and their four boys. Luke had called ahead and ordered a private tour, which had you swooning. But you couldn't let Luke know that. You were a strong woman of steel who felt know feelings. Even though you knew this to be false, it gave you a sense of security. "Don't be such a baby. This is exciting!" You proclaim, whoever Calum roles his eyes and Ashton flatly chimes in with a,
"I didn't care about history back in school, why should I care about American history?" You however would not give these boys the time of day. They were just whining because they wanted to go to the beach. Even though they'd already spent every available day there previously.
"You know what, maybe you guys shouldn't have come if you are going to act like this." You say defiantly, Luke chuckles softly and rubs your hand with his thumb sending shivers up your spine.
"Hmm, it's almost like someone, gosh, I don't know who, specifically told you that we didn't want to come!" Calum jeered, okay this boy did not need to have an attitude on your birthday.
"Dial it down Cal." Michael warned, and you could practically feel Calum rolling his eyes hard enough to pull a muscle.
"Yeah guys, we shouldn't be so harsh on Y/N. She's just trying to enjoy her birthday." Luke chimed in and you smiled at his words. Luke was honestly so sweet.
"Yeah, it's illegal to be rude to me on my birthday." You say smugly giving Luke's hand a squeeze.
"How is that illegal? What law is that? PLEASE, tell me!" Calum cried, fighting to keep his voice below a whisper. The tour guide was still dutifully doing her job and pointing out important artifacts. She had Ashton captivated.
"Calum, cool it. It's almost over. We can spend all day at the beach tomorrow." Michael tried to mediate. You scowled in contempt. Sure you loved Calum but that didn't mean you liked him all that often. After all it was your birthday. But whatever.
So turns out there were still three more hours to the private tour Luke had booked and even you didn't want to go through three more hours of that, so you all packed your things and headed to the beach. Much to Ashton's chagrin.
Get this, apparently Ashton actually liked American history. It was that, or he just wanted to keep flirting with their tour guide. You and the four boys had a race to the water. Michael, Ashton, and Calum quickly started playing some stupid hold your breath contest you were not interested in. Luke pulled you away from the splashing children you called your friends, and the other people at the beach.
You hoped onto his back and wrapped your legs around him. You giggled at the idea of Luke carrying you around. For a while you guys had a cute uninterrupted conversation before you heard obnoxious laughter from the other three boys.
You whipped your head around to see Michael flexing before saying, "Ooh Y/N look how strong I am." Before hearing an Ashton chime in with a surprisingly high voice, "Oh, Luke, how much do you work out?"
"500, maybe 600 pounds." Michael said nonchalantly and Calum just watched laughter filling the air. You had to admit it was kind of funny. Luke however was blushing a furious pink. He's blue eyes sparkling with joy, however.
Well this couldn't stand, you had to protect your sweet innocent boyfriend from his evil friends. You hoppeed off of Luke's back before gathering all of your strength to splash the heck out of those boys. What you would have given to have been recording their faces as you surprise attacked them.
"Oh my god, Y/N this is so unnecessary!" Calum screamed, but his screams were drowned out by your furious splashing. With a laugh Luke joined in, and you had never felt more loved then at this moment. However you didn't have much time to think because an undiluted battle cry of 'attack!' had surfaced.
You were still shaking sand out your hair even hours after your time at the beach. When it was over you guys ended up heading back to the hotel where you'd clean up and then head out to dinner. You had just got out of the shower and had begun working on doing your makeup when Luke came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your torso.
"Uhm, I'm a little busy." You giggled as he buried his face into your neck. You felt nothing but love surface for you as he did this, he was just so dang cute. Even if he did smudge your mascara and you would have to start over.
"I just love you so much Y/N." He whispered into your neck before planting slow, and sweet kisses along your neckline. It sent thrills of pleasure down the notches of your spine but you refused to act on these impulses. You were getting dolled up to go out due to Luke's request. You would not have this boy messing that up.
"Eww, what did we just walk in on?" Ashton gagged in mock disgust as he waltzed into the hotel room fixing the cuffs on his tux. Michael and Calum followed right after shielding their eyes from the utter horror. Luke untangled himself from his cheeks tinged pink a little.
"Good, you guys are ready. Now we're just waiting on, Y/N." Luke clasped his hands together and sighed way more dramatically than necessary.
"Well maybe I'd be done by now if someone hadn't interrupted." You snapped a little harsher than you had meant to. Luke however pays no mind to it and instead checks his watch. The boys give him a sympathetic look and within a few minutes you are finally finished.
You were supposed to dress nice so you were wearing a long body hugging red dress, your hair was pulled into an elegant up do and your makeup looked superb if you did say so yourself. Luke smiled and kissed you on the cheek.
However you could sense some tension within him, which confused you. Luke was never tense around you, at least not sense the beginning of your relationship but that was years ago. You were suddenly suspicious. But you really didn't want to push it.
He bought a limo. A limo. Oh my god, you had never ridden in a limo before. Today by far was definitely the best birthday you'd ever had. Of course it would have been the best even you and Luke hadn't left Australia. Even if you hadn't even left your house. Even if you'd spent all day on the couch watching Netflix it would have been perfect because you were with Luke.
They lead you into a fancy restaurant that Luke had, get this, reservations for. It was such a fancy restaurant you felt so out of your element. You were so used to take out Chinese food this was a whole new level.
The boys however didn't seem phased, they've probably ate in loads of places like this when they go on tour or do PR stuff. You were still in awe of everything. Luke held tight to your hand and reassuringly sent squeezes throughout the entire limo ride and now inside of the restaurant. You had returned his attentions with shy smiles.
You were all five seated around a table and given menus. Everything was in French and you couldn't believe your eyes when you saw how much each meal cost. Of course it would be nothing to the boys, but to you, god it was so much.
You chuckled nervously along to the jokes the boys were telling but your heart really just wasn't in it. You felt kind of off.
It wasn't until halfway through the meal when Luke asked for your attention did you really start to feel uneasy. Something was going to happen and you weren't sure if you were prepared for it. Luke couldn't be breaking up with you, he wouldn't fly you all the way to America on your birthday to break up with you.
It wasn't until he got down on one knee and pulled out a little velvet box did everything sink in. He was proposing. He was proposing to you. That's why he was so nervous, oh god. Your brain now was going a mile a minute as you processed what was happening.
"Y/F/N," Luke began, your mouth popped open and all of a sudden it was a few years into the future and you were holding a little boy, the same one Luke had described in his stupid little fantasy in that dumb little house that would know be your house. Well not really, but like metaphorically. Because Luke was proposing and this was the start of forever. No, this wasn't the start of forever.
The start of forever was when you two had met, when you had hated him because he was so smug and cocky and he had eyes that were bluer than the sky and wouldn't leave you alone no matter how much you promised you couldn't stand him.
The start of forever was when he blackmailed you into going on a date with him and, it was when he asked you to be his girlfriend and you said yes. All of these memories come flooding back and your heart flutters with anticipation for the ones you'd make.
"I love you, dearly. I wake up every morning and I am so glad your there, and when you aren't I feel lacking. Like there's something wrong, and there is something wrong. You aren't next to me. There will always be something wrong as long as I'm not waking up next to me. You are my forever. You once asked me if I could go anywhere where I would go. The answer is right here. I would go here, and I would ask you if you would do me the utmost honor of becoming my wife." You just sit there stunned, the tears are flowing and you promised yourself you weren't going to do this but you are and everything's happening so fast.
Your stunned truly. You want to say yes, you want to move and hug him and promise him this brilliant future. You want to, but you can't. You can't because your body won't move. Your stuck and everything's so real and wow, he really just proposed to you.
"Why isn't she moving?" You heard Calum mutter to Michael in the background, however it sounded millions of miles away. You weren't paying any attention to the boys.
"Maybe it's because he proposed in front of us, if it were me I would want it to be done at a park in front of a sunset. And there would be music, but we would be completely alone. There'd probably be some birds and he'd –" Ashton began rambling about his dream wedding but was cut off by Calum.
"Ashton shhh, and I told him that was a bad idea. But he said something about wanting it to be a surprise and he needed us for moral support or something." Calum whispered back to the boys.
Luke's cheeks were flaming and he sent you a pleading look. He was so worried you were going to say no, so worried because you were so great and so you, and he was him. Just him. Plus you weren't saying anything and he was pretty worried about what that meant.
But that's all it took, one little look from Luke and you were unstuck. You launched forward wrapped your arms around Luke's neck sending him toppling over from the momentum. You didn't even care that you were in a fancy restaurant and one stupid flaming lobster cost more than your care. You didn't care because you were going to get married, married to the love of your life and you could not have been happier.
"Aww, look at that." Michael sniffles in the background followed by a cooing noise from Ashton and Calum. "Our little baby's are growing up, it seemed like just yesterday they were fighting over coffee but here they are. Getting married."
