"Luna?" He tensed. Anyone but her! She didn't deserve any of that. "The storybooks had such nice pictures in them. It was her favorite, too, I thought. I didn't know..."

"Yes, she knows from what I am aware of." He said softly. "Bahamut's a bastard, and killing us makes fixing his mistakes easy. And yeah, storybooks are often pretty, glossing over all the terrible the gods want to put us through."

"A loophole... Let's just- It's just a book. It's fine." If they ignore it, maybe it will go away? That's always been Noctis' strategy, for. Well, anything that was uncomfortable, really.

Arctus snorted, he supposed it didn't matter what Noctis did til closer to time.

"I's fine, I'll figure it out," He said. "Go back to being normal for now."

A plate warming frost-stiff fingers, Phila scopes out the dining hall for a seat. Unfortunately, this is a task easier said than done. Though a relatively new arrival, she has quickly realised that the hall is always swarming with activity; intermingling students, staff, and knights with the clink of knives and forks on plates and the occasional shattering plate.

It's definitely a test of her reflexes if anything. Ducking under various food-laden arms and bodies, she manages to fight her way to a relatively undisturbed clearing. Seats blink into emptiness like stars on a dark night, but are seized upon within seconds, extinguished. Naga above, this was going to be a challenge.

Suddenly, in the swarm, an empty seat. Moving with a speed she would've been embarrassed by if her stomach wasn't so insistently vocal, she approaches her perch. Her eyes flash like the steel of a lance, jabbing away any encroaching students hoping to snatch her spot from her. With her ownership established, she turns to the adjacent student.

'Is this seat taken?'

In the flurry of seat-hunting, she hadn't noticed that the student in question donned vibrant yellow fox ears. They drew the eye in the dingy glow of the dining hall, obtrusive like a brand in the night, wresting her mind to a meeting in the castle, and a woman accusing her Exalt of a violence that was all too human. Taguel...?

Nothing beat food from home and Kinu had finally convinced the kitchen staff to make her some Hoshidan dishes, provided that she brought the ingredients! Her tail was twitching with excitement at the thought of tasting it. It was about then that her attention was drawn away by the sound of footsteps hurrying over to the table and her ears immediately tracked onto that sound. Then came the question.

Looking up, Kinu grinned when she saw the woman with pale blue hair. She looked a bit like her classmate, Marianne. Though she smelled like pegasi. She didn't seem to be wearing the student uniform either... so.... new professor? Or maybe a knight?

"Hiya!" she chirped in greeting. "That seat is free, why don't you sit down? My name's Kinu! What's yours?"

Her tail started wagging a bit with excitement. Kinu loved meeting new people! Which meant she started speaking quickly too. Oops.

"Do I want to do something? It's your birthday!" Pouts. "What do you want to do?"

"I mean, me and the Glaives usually get sockered after the official ball?" He joked. "But, hmm, I don't know you know? I've been so busy lately I've barely had time to think. Dad and me usually do a nice dinner in the evenings, and I do have one scheduled, so how about we just hang out in town and than meet him? We could watch a movie I guess, or go to the arcade."

"Cerberus? You're telling me it's not a daemon?"

"I'm telling you it's not my dog," He replied. "I honestly don't know where the damned thing came from it just sort of appeared."

I’m a sucker for redemption arcs and the power of love and light/dark imagery!! I get why some people choose to block it though, the fandom kinda sucks)

reading: I’m rereading Wordsworth and Coleridge’s Lyrical Ballads right now. It’s even better than I remembered.
