The cold of Winterfell had never felt as heavy to you as that afternoon, but the atmosphere in the great hall was a thousand times worse. The servants ran from one side to the other preparing everything for the arrival of King Robert Baratheon, and the other important lords strutted about showing off their fine furs and their grand stories of exploits. Overwhelmed by all the bustle, you decided to escape to the armory, seeking a bit of peace.
As you entered, the golden light of dusk barely illuminated the practice swords. And there he was.Jon was sitting on a wooden bench, furiously cleaning the blade of a greatsword with an oiled rag. His brow was so furrowed it seemed as though the steel had personally offended him.
"If you keep rubbing it with that much rage, you're going to wear down the metal before the king sets foot in the yard," you said, leaning against the doorframe with a playful smile.
Jon didn't even look up, though the muscle in his jaw tightened.
"It's a steel greatsword, not a lace jewel. It's not going to break," he replied, his voice laced with that dry sarcasm that characterized him so well.
"Shouldn't you be in the hall learning to embroider or listening to the exaggerated stories of the southern knights?"
"How kind of you to worry about my education, Lord Snow," you laughed, taking a few steps toward him without letting his gruff tone intimidate you. "But the hall smells of sour wine and men's vanity. I prefer the scent of pine... and a grumpy bastard."
Jon stopped the rag. He lifted his grey eyes —those Stark eyes so dark they almost looked like shadows— and stared at you. Inside, his mind was chaos: Why does she have to smile like that? Doesn't she see that I have no place at this feast, that to everyone here I'm just a nuisance? But on the outside, he only managed a snort.
"I'm not a lord. And I'm not in the mood for your games," he spoke.
"I noticed that as soon as I walked through the door," you said lightly. You reached into the pocket of your dress and pulled out a small cloth bundle. "I brought you a prize for your hard work of frowning."
You walked over and sat right next to him on the wooden bench. Without asking permission, you took the rag from his hand and placed in his palm a warm lemon tart, freshly stolen from the kitchens.
"Sansa helped me steal it, though she took most of it," you spoke, almost whispering — it was better that no one heard about the altercation you'd caused alongside the sweet Stark
.Jon looked at the tart as if it were a dangerous artifact.
"Maester Luwin would say you're encouraging indiscipline in the castle."
"And I say Maester Luwin doesn't know what's good," you spoke, your voice soft but without losing its spirit. "Eat, Jon. Or I'll have to eat it myself, and I swear I fought three cooks to get it," you added.
Jon let out a tired sigh, but for the first time all day, the tension in his shoulders seemed to ease. He brought the tart to his mouth and took a bite. The sweet and tangy flavor broke through the bitterness he'd been chewing on all afternoon.
"It's good," he admitted reluctantly, glancing sideways at how you smiled victoriously.
"I knew it. See? It doesn't hurt to stop being a bitter crow for five minutes."
"I'm not a crow," he murmured, though a small curve, almost invisible, threatened to appear at the corner of his lips.
"Not yet."
"But you smile like one," you teased, giving him a gentle nudge with your shoulder.Jon shook his head, but the stiffness in his posture finally gave way.
He looked at the empty cloth in his hand and then at you, with that deep gaze that seemed to measure every one of your gestures. "Thank you," he murmured. The word came out clumsy, almost rusty, but for the first time all day, the weight on his shoulders seemed to lift.

℘ Sansa Stark ℘
“A lady may bend without breaking. Even the strongest trees bow when the winter winds come.”
── .✦ Sansa Stark (285 AC–?), eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn Tully, was the second child of Winterfell and the sister of Robb Stark. Raised among songs, courtesy, and the old tales of knights, she dreamed of a life of courtly splendor before learning that pretty songs seldom tell the whole truth. Though gentle by nature, Sansa possessed a quiet strength and a keen understanding of people, learned through years spent among enemies. Those who mistook her courtesy for weakness often lived to regret it.
'The knight, faceless, nameless . . .'
- pairing; ser duncan the tall x fem!knight!reader
- A/N; I'm NOT an ASOIAF writer. I just... I'm really fond of Dunk, okay? and the idea of being one of the knights to fight with him during his trial... it's not a hesr me out. it's a HOLD ME BACK. I do not know anything about AKOTSK, I just liked the show. forgive me for inaccuracies, I am but a loser :,)
Duncan is short one knight in the Trial of Seven. Prince Baelor Targaryen and ser Lyonel Baratheon were most honorable and quickly took his side, as did ser Fossoway (who was knighted by the Laughing Storm right in the mud) and the Humfreys. But this is a Trial of Seven - and they were only six.
Until a knight clad in light armor riding a mare dark as coal entered the scene. He was intimidating, borderline terrifying; the soldier was no taller than Aerion, perhaps even shorter, but his commanding aura straightened the backs of all who witnessed. His armor wasn't meant for tanking heavy blows, more built to allow for speed and agility. The metal wasn't pristine, darkened and sullied by time and what was probably remnants of his past victims. The knight wore a helm with a thin slit at the sockets so that only his eyes were visible, darkned by the black of ashes. He spoke not, barely offered a glance at Duncan and his men. Simply strode on his steed at their side, as silent display of loyalty.
𐔌 . ՞ You hid in the armory to play with swords and someone finds you.
cw: fem Baratheon reader!,book version Jon Snow!, Jon is a bit insufferable, reader is arrogant and kind of spoiled jsks, kinda short, Jon is a bit OOC but idk, it's a fic.
a/n: first time writing something from Jon's perspective, hope you like it, this was one of those other silly and childish ideas I had jssk, don't forget you can send in your requests jsjks, for whatever characters you want by the way
Jon Snow had seen many strange things since he arrived at the Wall.
He had seen one of those things they call the Others. He had seen the wildlings attack with desperate fury. He had seen Stannis Baratheon, the king who was no king, burn his own men in the name of a fire god.But nothing, absolutely nothing, had prepared him for this.
What in the seven hells is she doing?
He stopped at the threshold of the armory, his hand still resting on the wooden frame, and blinked twice to make sure what he was seeing was real.
You were in the middle of the room, sword raised high, wearing that luxurious yellow and black dress, with an expression of concentration so intense you looked like you were solving the riddle of the white walkers. But no. You were trying to do something. Something that involved spinning, jumping, and striking all at once.
The first attempt was... pathetic.Pathetic is an understatement, Jon thought, leaning his back against the wall and crossing his arms. Like a fawn trying to dance. You spun, jumped, and the slash went so wide you almost cut your own foot.
The sword got tangled in your dress and you nearly fell flat on your face. You recovered with forced dignity, frowned, and tried again.
Jon stood still.
He didn't even breathe loudly.
If she doesn't notice I'm here, maybe I can see how long it takes her to give up.
But you didn't give up.
He never thought he'd see the future possible heir to the Seven Kingdoms doing that kind of thing.
The second attempt was worse than the first. The third, a disaster. On the fourth, you almost hit a lantern hanging from the ceiling. On the fifth, you got tangled in your own cloak and had to stop to untangle yourself.
Jon sat down on an empty beer barrel. He didn't know why he was staying. He should have grabbed the sharpening stone and left. There were things to do. Reports to read. Problems to solve. He was the Lord Commander; he couldn't afford to waste time like this.
But he didn't move.
She's Stannis's daughter, he reminded himself. The princess who looks down on everyone. The one always trailing after the red woman like a little puppy. The one who made a scene last week because the blue dress didn't fit right.
And yet, there you were. Spinning. Falling. Cursing under your breath.
Trying the same move over and over, as if your life depended on it.The sixth attempt. The seventh. The eighth.
Jon leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. She's not bad. He didn't want to admit it, but it was true. You were clumsy, yes. Uncoordinated, too. But there was something in the way you didn't give up, in the way you clenched your jaw and tried again no matter how many times you failed, that reminded him of someone.
Of Arya.
His sister used to do the same thing. Fall again and again, get up, and try again. With the same stubbornness. With the same look of "I can do this, and no one's going to stop me."
Jon felt a tug in his chest. Don't think about Arya.
Not here.
Not now.
The ninth attempt. The tenth. The eleventh.
He'd lost count.
Or no, he hadn't lost it. He was keeping it in his head like a soldier counts the days until the end of his service.Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. On the fifteenth, you almost broke your nose with the sword.
Jon had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing.Fifteen attempts and she still can't get it.
This is ridiculous. She's the most stubborn person I've ever met after... well, after me.
The sixteenth wasn't any better. But something in your posture had changed. You weren't as rigid anymore. Your shoulders had relaxed. The sword moved with a little more fluidity.
She's learning, he caught himself thinking. Damn it, she's learning.
And then came the seventeenth. You stopped for a moment.
Closed your eyes.
Took a breath.
And when you opened them, something in your gaze was different. It wasn't the arrogant princess he always saw in the yard. It was someone who had been falling for an hour and had decided that next time, she wouldn't.
You spun. The movement was clean. Your feet moved with precision, the sword traced a perfect arc through the air, and when the slash struck the straw dummy, the fabric tore with a clean, sharp sound.Straw exploded into the air like golden snow under the sun.
Silence filled the armory.
And then you let out a victory cry so genuine, so free, that Jon felt something crack in his chest.
"YES! I DID IT!"
You spun around triumphantly, arms raised high and a smile so wide it lit up your whole face. Your coat swayed with the momentum, straw falling slowly around you like a golden snowfall, and your eyes shone with such pure joy that Jon lost his breath.
Seven hells.
And then your eyes met his.The smile froze on your face. Your arms lowered slowly, as if the weight of what you'd just done had suddenly come crashing down on you. You stood paralyzed, mouth slightly open, cheeks beginning to redden.
Jon didn't move. He didn't say anything. He just watched you, arms crossed, sitting on his beer barrel, having counted your seventeen failed attempts until, finally, you'd achieved what you set out to do.The silence stretched. You still hadn't moved, and the color of your face went from pink to deep red in a matter of seconds.
She's embarrassed. I should say something. I should leave. I should...
"Pretty good," Jon said, and his voice came out drier than he intended. "But it took you seventeen tries. I counted."
The color on your face intensified to a shade Jon had only seen in Melisandre's flames. Your hands, still gripping the sword, began to tremble slightly.
"You... you saw everything?" you managed to articulate, though your voice was barely a whisper.
Jon rose slowly from the barrel. He wasn't in a hurry. He took a few steps toward you, hands still crossed, and stopped close enough to see the gleam of humiliation in your eyes.
"The first one was the best," he said, and couldn't help a small smile from creeping onto his lips. "You almost killed yourself with your own sword."
"That's not true!" you protested, but your voice trembled so much that the denial sounded more like a plea than anger.
"You're trembling," he pointed out, and it was true. Your hands wouldn't stop shaking, the sword moving in your fingers like a leaf in the wind.
You fell silent.
The straw was still floating around you, and the afternoon light streaming through the window bathed you in a golden glow that made your burning cheeks look even redder.
Jon took another step. Now he was close enough to see your chest rise and fall with your agitated breathing."But the seventeenth was good," he said, and his voice softened without him being able to help it. "Really. Stannis's princess just killed a straw dummy. Who would have thought?"
You looked up at him. Your eyes met his, and Jon saw something in them he hadn't expected. It wasn't just shame. It was something more. Something he didn't know how to name, but that made his chest tighten.
"Don't tell anyone," you whispered.
"Me?" He stepped back, picking up his sword from the floor as if nothing had happened. "I didn't see anything. I just came in to get a sharpening stone."
He turned toward the door. His footsteps echoed on the wood as he walked, but when he reached the threshold, he stopped. He didn't know why. He should have left. He should have forgotten everything he'd seen. But he couldn't.
"Princess."
Your voice came from behind, still trembling:"What?"
Jon didn't turn around. But his voice came through clearly to you, with a warmth he hadn't planned:"If you want, tomorrow I'll teach you a better move. I got mine on the third try. That's the difference between a bastard and a princess."
He didn't wait for your answer. He walked out of the armory and into the yard, the cold northern wind hitting his face.
But he couldn't get the image out of his head. You, with golden straw falling around you.
You, with your arms raised and the brightest smile he'd seen in months. You, with red cheeks, trembling with embarrassment, whispering for him not to tell anyone.
"Damn it," Jon thought, and the smile that formed on his lips was so genuine it almost hurt. "This is a problem. A very big problem."
That was all that went through his head.Because he knew that tomorrow he would be there. In the armory. At the same hour.
Sam saw him cross the yard with a strange expression on his face, something that didn't resemble his usual grim look at all.
"Jon, are you all right? You look... happy."
Jon stopped. Blinked. And for a moment, he didn't know what to answer.
"I'm fine, Sam." He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. "I just found something I wasn't expecting."
"A sharpening stone?"
Jon let out a low laugh.
"Something better."
And he kept walking, with the image of a straw-covered princess burned into his memory, wondering when he'd become stupid enough to start feeling something for Stannis Baratheon's daughter.

The Mystery Of Winter
Or; in which Jon encounters a winter nymph banished from her frozen lake due to "family complications" and begrudgingly he offers to help her.
Based on this request by the lovely anon <3 hope you enjoy
Plot Point; since the request didn't specify the timing, I decided to make the story take place during Jon's life at Winterfell, however, the characters are aged up and let's say it's a no war au. Also, mix of his book and show counterpart.
Warnings; partial nudity, slight angst, but it's mostly fluff.
One-shot; 4.7k words.
A/N; it's not my best piece of art, but it'll have to do. I hope this is what the anon what in mind, I added a little too much plot and maybe missed some small points. Also, sorry for being so late, I was a bit busy :)
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
From the dawn of ages, from the line of the First Men, nymphs inhabited the world. Nymphs of water, of earth, of ether. Their solemn duty was to protect their realm, and all the beings contained therein.
