17/02/19 - reading an exercise in my assimil french book and it’s the bit of les miserables where Gavroche dies ;n; it was a hard to read as I am lacking lots of vocab and verbs like to shoot, army words, to stagger, etc. But I pushed through and forced myself to finish trying to read it 💪🏻💪🏻
If you are a French speaker wanting to learn Dutch or you want to practice French while learning basic Dutch, I highly recommend you this exercise book. Made by a native Dutch member of Assimil, quite famous for its language learning books, it makes it easier to learn basic expressions and grammar rules. And the layouts in the book are so nice. Lots of nice drawings making it pleasant to use! Most exercises enable you to conjugate verbs correctly, to put words in the right order, and to use several expressions at once for the same theme. Plus, you sometimes get word search games! (I got quite excited by that 😁) You get a lot of explanations of grammar rules, although it may happen that you need to read more complete lessons because some explanations lack of details. If you are someone who likes revising words when they are put in tables or if you have a good memory for colours, this is for you. Each lesson is contained in a colour block, and the same colour rarely is used twice in the same lesson, unless it's used for a sub-lesson or vocabulary bubbles. It is only €9.99 (at least in France) and I have just finished it and it's a great way to learn basics!
I adore Assimil because it has the snarkiest sense of humor of any language course out there ♥
Man: Your hotel is called “The Silver Stag”, isn’t it? Woman: No, sir. Man: Then it’s “The Old Mill”? Woman: No, sir. Man: “The Merry Miller”? Woman: No, sir. Man: Don’t tell me it’s called “Hotel Panorama”. Woman: No, sir. Man: Do you have a room available for me? Woman: Yes, sir.

26/1/19 - I decided to take a bit of a break from uni work this Saturday and do my hobbies as I'm on the verge of burning out tbh. I played piano for the first time in weeks! I wrote a french journal entry, typed up french class notes on new years resolutions, put new vocab on quizlet and did an assimil french exercise. I did a chapter of my Mandarin text book too, I'm 8 of 20 through!
07/09/18 - I came across these French two thingies in my assimil book, so I learnt how to use them and asked on hinative for example sentences!
