Stellar Sojourn!
Magma Skies [Astral Adventures #1]
[Text in brackets is inserted by Jasper upon posting for clarification/elaboration]
A plain… grasses rise before me in the near pitch dark, swaying and rippling as a chilling wind carries my wisps away. As the grasses (taller than myself) dance, a sporadic light zips along their tips. Turning my attentions upwards, the sky seems to boil, dark clouds spanning endlessly in all directions. Red light, with the appearance of magma, rolls through the clouds, bathing all below in a faint crimson. The speeding light catches my attention once again, splitting the darkness like red lightning.
Suddenly, the grass beneath the light bends to the ground. There, sitting quietly with its head tilted as it examines me, is a tiny creature that resembles a baby fox, with the bushier tail of a squirrel. Its entire being is composed of what seems to be red lightning, lines of electrical discharge crackling as they branch out to touch anything close to it. The only solid part of its body are its ruby red eyes, their depths glistening like perfectly faceted gemstones.
It inches forward in an impossible way, body becoming a disorienting blur. As it slowly advances, small sparks fall from the space under its eyes. As the sparks land, they emit a staccato chittering sound. Suddenly, I notice the grass…. No longer flailing frantically, it drifts as if suspended in water. I try to move. The sky… seems frozen. I am frozen.
A blinding light. The lightning entity's form is crackling with energy, and suddenly… it is moving normally. It zips up a nearby grass blade and disappears, its glow fading quickly to nothing.
Power. Terror. Pure Malice.
I try to cry out. Get away. I can't get away. I can't move. I realize what this is. Time itself bends to its will.
I feel it. It approaches from behind, a color beyond description washing over the grass before me. The grass… suspended in their endless struggles, the blades lose their definition. Each strand of grass is now a gateway to endless realms, images and emotions spilling forth in an overwhelming tide.
Dull. Senses overload. Static everywhere.
Mountains, stars, forests, cities of bone and soul… Fresh flowers, cinnamon scents… warm blankets in the snow…
Jarred back. A scream.
A silhouette stands defiantly before an entity formed of Astral dust, molded with cursed machinery. The cursed being constantly twitches, each and every movement jerky and unnatural, leaving a smear of colors and visions suspended in the air. Its lower body is four legged and equine in shape, with a torso rising at the front of the lower body. The torso is in constant motion, countless mechanisms skittering and popping into position, only to shift and submerge into the Astral dust within an instant later. Its face… above its torso, atop a humanoid neck, is a flurry of hooks and metal teeth that grind towards a hole in the center of its "head."
The silhouette emits another screech, the sound much like rusted metal scraping rusted metal. The impossible entity before me staggers, time flickering for an instant. This is long enough to the silhouette to turn and grasp me by the throat, dashing off into the grasses. They run for what seems like an eternity, still grasping me hard by the throat, the insane grinding and clicking fading into the distance as time normalizes.
Eventually, I glimpse mountains rising on the horizon, bathed in the sinister crimson light that permeates this realm. The silhouette drags me up the mountain, uncaring when my body dashes against the stones. Finally, we reach a cave, where I am tossed down onto the cold stone floor.
Above me stands N [my newest companion and mentor, a dark arts werewolf], scowling down at me, a sinister look in his eyes. I notice a glimmering red light emanating from his left hand, which he opens to reveal a small creature… made of red lightning. He gently places them down on a nearby outcropping and turns again to me, his hand dripping blood. I look closer. The lightning in his grip had shredded his skin and scorched his lower arm and fingers. He turns away after fixing me with one last scornful glare.
[N had grabbed one of the lightning creatures in order to harness the near endless energy they use to combat the entity’s time distortions. This... regrettably almost led to the little creature’s demise and permanently scarred N’s arm and hand. N kept watch for some time after as I gave what energy I could to help the little creature recover. N remains furious that I was not more observant and spends every available moment making sure I never make that mistake again. I will never forget the great costs of my mistake.]
Starting a series!
Hey there everyone! Jasper here <3
I’ve decided to release some of the stream of consciousness writings that I do while focusing all of my attentions to my Astral half! I have long wanted to share my experiences with others, really bringing them into the constant rollercoaster of wonder, awe, intense fear, and everything in between that I experience when actively exploring the Astral.
As a little disclaimer, these writings are not polished. They are my raw thoughts and sensations that are written down as they happen. The ONLY adjustments I make are to names and other small details that are meant to protect the entities I encounter and have dealings with. Please let us at Twilight Dawning Scales know what you think!

I've been trying to meet my spirit animal for a month now! I was finally deep into my astral exploration and it nudged my hand, but it wouldn't show itself. where are you, little guy?
Astral Explorations
are sort of like orgasms. you can't completely understand the concept until you've had one!
(and faking them isn't cool)
