narrator's human sona revealed!
So I got slapped in the face with this idea at 3 in the morning, so I paid @lettuccine to make it a reality. Thanks again! Absolutely incredible!
Danny "piece of shit teenager" Phantom is floating around being a pain in the ass in the Justice League, as normal, when suddenly, he stops in the air.
His head turns 194 degrees, and his smile stretches wide.
"Raven!" He calls, just as the cloaked half demon enters the meeting room.
She stares impassively. "Danny."
"Oh come onnnnnn" the ghost ribs, standing upside down above her like a strange mirror image. "Call me 'Dad' already!"
Raven scowls. "No."
Cyborg, who had entered the watchtower with the girl, looks between them in confusion. "Now what on sweet mother earth is goin' on here?"
Phantom's laughter grated on every eardrum in the vicinity, like cracking glaciers.
"I beat the hell out of her dad, and ate half his soul!" He explains, like it's nothing.
"I took his throne in the duel, so it's only right that I be both a better ruler and a better father, eh?"
"Not my dad." Raven growls.
Phantom just smirks at her, and tosses her a paper bag. She catches it in her magic, and immediately whips out a cookie and begins crunching on it.
On Cyborg's glance, she just glowers. "Not sharing."
i did in fact make this a fic!!! check it out on AO3! <3
what if rocky and adrian were both so incredibly stressed from the events of the movie/book that in the future if they plan to have kids, they’re still so traumatised that there’s only one baby eridian born (like only one egg) and they’re both too tired and weak to have anymore.
this one kid is so incredibly precious to them, so they tell & show grace the little baby eridian when they hatch, and grace is terrified when he holds them just in case he hurts them by accident, but oh my god they’re tiny and they look like a little pebble with limbs it’s actually the cutest little thing ever.
when he asks what their name is (even though he won’t understand how names work in eridian), rocky tells him that they’ve already come up with a human translation, they came up with the human translation first actually.
their name is grace, cause this little baby is the most important thing to them, and ryland grace is also so incredibly important.
for rocky: just look at the events of the movie/book.
for adrian: ryland grace brought rocky back home to them, ryland saved rocky at the expense of himself. it was him who brought their mate home, who let them reunite with the one they love so much and have mated for life with. ryland grace is very important to them, and they’re forever grateful, despite how strange humans are, it’s a fond sort of weirded-out-disgust.
ryland proves that disgust right by breaking down into a leaky space blob right in front of them and holding little grace a bit tighter in his arms. when rocky says the eridian translation of his name that only makes him more emotional.
grace is an actual word with meaning, more than just a name, so it could have a valid human-to-eridian translation. i’ve been bouncing this idea in my head for a while augh i need to write this i think.
ALSO!!! even after ryland dies, he will still live on in their little eridian and one day he probably suddenly realises that and starts crying all over again, a weird mixture of sadness and fondness really.
also it provides the funniest opportunity to imply/hint at poly adrian/rocky/ryland which i will forever root for, it doesn’t even have to be romantic it can be very much platonic.

Caretaker doing simple things such as always asking Whumpee if they want a hug and not giving one if they say "no" to help Whumpee relearn that their consent matters, that their "no" matters
whumpee being taught that their no matters, having the chance to internalize that, to experience it over and over again is one of my favourite things in a recovery arc.
and one particular kind of moment in that part of an arc that has me captivated is like... when they're starting to trust it, when they want to trust it, but they just. they can't yet. and so they decide to test it. they say no when they don't actually mean no, they just want to see if it'll work. they want to see if they'll be allowed to say no, if their no will be heard.
and it is. their no is heard, and respected. they're not forced. they're not punished. they're not shamed. caretaker nods and says okay. no judgement. no drama. whumpee just stares at them, not quite able to believe it. they breathe, ragged and serrated, and stare at their friend, and it hits them that they never truly believed that it would actually work. not until right that moment did they realize they truly expected that no to be ignored.
but it isn't. it's heard. it's welcomed. they don't know how to process that at all. especially since they feel an inch from shattering and they want a fucking hug of all things but they just said no. what are they supposed to say? "sorry, i didn't mean that, i was testing you. i thought you'd force me anyway. will you hug me now? can i take it back?"
This is insanely stupid dude 🪦
