I can't go to America, because 4 year old Henry has all the pixie dust. AND plane drivers are bad, because they only give you bread and milk. Additionally I have a cold and could kick myself for not stopping by the Apotheke for drugs this afternoon since my American stash petered out a while ago. It's just that by the time I passed the Apotheke, I would much sooner have sat down on the concrete and died there in relative comfort than commit to any other activity; particularly riding or walking my bike the rest of the way uphill, but including a venture into the Apotheke, where I'd have to actually lift my voice to ask for medicine that probably wouldn't do squat, if my previous encounters with German medical paraphernalia are any indication. Let that be a warning to you; always take whole bottles of your favorite medicine for prolonged international forays. I'm not typically a pill-popper, but I'd be extremely grateful for Tylenol and Mucinex about now. Nor can medicinal items be shipped, as we found out when my care package (containing Lotrimin and Melatonin) was ravaged at the German border, where the dangerous contents were removed with radiation-proof gloves in a secret science lab, deep under the earth by a team of highly trained specialists who had to spend 10 whole days in an equally secret and well-buried decontamination facility- after which my package was sent the remainder of its journey by pigeon. Wouldn't want to pollute the country with harmless medication. Not that I'm bitter, or anything. Apart from that, (and the fact that my permission to resume working in Germany that should only have taken 2 weeks to come in hasn't come in a month later. I only switched families, for crying out loud!), everything is busy, but good. My host-mother (weird to call her that, since she's so young) and her sons will be heading off to America for a month, and I will be spending the time in England, which is exciting, of course. Munich International Community Church, which I am now a member of officially (have dual membership with Providence Reformed Baptist, back in Marble Falls, TX) will be having its annual church retreat this weekend, which should be a fun event, as well as being beneficial to me- a paid childcare worker. Assuming I can shake this darn cold. I have also managed to obtain a sewing machine for a short period, so my clothes are getting a little long-needed sweet-lovin', or that's the goal (sewing was never my strength in home ec). So, I'm off to rest, and pack, and fix my attitude, and talk to my family. TTFN!
