For anyone who’s listened to Welcome to Night Vale (WtNV), the Weather has always been a particularly odd element of the podcast. Not because there being a Weather Report on a fiction Radio Show is weird, but because the Weather Report isn’t the Weather Report.

The Weather—which should not be confused with Shades of the Sky—is music.

Particularly, the Weather is music that—in some way—narratively connects to the episode it’s in.

And, it can be abstract, like, “The Bus Is Late” by Satellite Sky in “Glow Cloud”, since the Glow Cloud—ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY GLOW CLOUD—rains dead animals.

“The Bus Is Late”, while being quirky and weird, is also kind of ominous. Rather like the Glow Cloud.

Okay, so I’ve been waiting for Earth to Echo to come out because it looked like one of the most adorable things in the History of Ever, and for once, I was not disappointed.

Seriously, Earth to Echo is like Goonies and ET got together, had a kid, and then that kid was raised by The Flight of the Navigator and Stand By Me. This film is that good.

So, there’s a difference between the Miranda Priestly of The Devil Wears Prada film and novel, and we’re gonna talk about the film!Miranda because the novel!Miranda is—kind of a malicious, two-dimensional portrayal.

And, film!Miranda? Is anything but two-dimensional.

Miranda is exactly what you’d expect a high-powered, successful businesswoman—and, yes, fashion is a business and a very lucrative one at that—who came up during the 70s and 80s, when women had to be twice as good at their jobs to earn half the credit.

Like that’s changed at all.
