avaritiem:
“NOW WHERE’S THE fun in that?” Seokjin grits his teeth as he slowly begins to grow accustomed to the extra weight he was lifting on his dumbbell. It was a Monday, and the gym was running a little slower than usual, which was nothing out of the ordinary for regular attendees like Seokjin. The little extra (almost undetectable) flesh he had been growing on his stomach lately bothered him, and he had felt the need to spend a little more time in the gym nowadays. Leave it to him to be conversing with one of the only other people in the weight room – he had forgotten his earbuds at home and, thus, chose to bother the first person that intrigued him. Poor guy.
“I mean, it sounds like you’re reciting some damn contract or something. What are you, a lawyer?” He pegged the other with a question that was probably far too intrusive, at least, for two people that came here with the sole intentions of working out. “I say you should live a little. Do somethin’ that’ll get your adrenaline going. And think about the consequences… after that, I suppose.” Setting the dumbbell on the ground, Seokjin then switched arms, proceeding to work out his biceps, evenly and efficiently, silently awaiting the other male’s response without ever glancing at him.
there’s irony in this, somewhere. jungkook is far from being a lawyer, although he remembers the textbooks that used to sit on his bed and mock him from across the room. like a reminder of the freedom he didn’t have. law was never his passion, but his father forced it to be his, to make it something he loved in the blue pastimes of after school. he never came to love it, but he does remember it. jungkook grins cheekily, although there’s no true emotion behind it. he drops the weight, pinching his sore muscles and wondering if he should push ups instead. or maybe squats. he doesn’t know why he comes to the gym, why he wastes his money on something as stupid as exercise-- but he supposes it could save his ass in the future. maybe.
“as if. i’m too damn young, and too damn stupid to be a lawyer.” he never actually bothered to look over at the person he was talking to, but now he does. “that’s kinda funny. that’s really funny, actually.” but he’s not smiling, and there’s nothing amusing about what the guy says. with the way jungkook lives his life, he thinks he’s had enough adrenaline runs in his life. running away from the cops gave him half a heart attack, and he wasn’t planning on doing something like that again. “hm. like what? I heard stealing could get your adrenaline going. or maybe getting into a fight. you ever get into fights? I heard fights are real bad stuff.” jungkook picks up another weight, something heavier this time. there’s almost a faraway look in his eyes, as if he’s searching for something that he can’t see.
