“I would just like to be clear about this,” Stiles says indignantly, which is telling in and of itself since he is now capable of being indignant while hiding behind an overturned table and being shot at by Replicators which never would have been possible a year ago because a year ago he didn’t know Derek and thus was in mortal peril like, way less often and this is Stiles’s exact point, “clear about how you are a total jinx. Only not a bad luck jinx, a danger jinx. I had like a two-month streak going here man, and you’re ruining it. Ruining. With your jinx.”
Stiles does not appreciate the extra excitement Derek’s presence brings to his day (chp .1)

Look I have a serious soft spot for this ship. Teyla and John had this wonderful relationship, this sort of story suits them.
Short-Fic Review: Speechless by avocadomoon
Summary: Effie was kind, she was warm, she offered comfort to anyone who needed it, microphones be damned. She had a reputation for generosity amongst the Victors that Haymitch hadn't paid any attention to, because he was so paranoid about showing his hand that he barely even said her name around other people, barely even acknowledged her existence. Everyone thought he hated her, Beetee had explained. Everyone knew the stories about how he'd made her cry in the sponsor's lounge at the opening of the 61st Games, how he'd blown up at Cecelia that time when she'd asked him to pass a message onto Effie for her. Is that why none of you assholes ever liked me? Haymitch had asked. No, we didn't like you because you were a prick, Beetee told him, which was fair enough.

Review: I’ve never been one to care too much for the secondary characters in The Hunger Games, but if there’s one fic I would recommend to anyone who’s interested in learning more about Haymitch - it’d be Speechless.
The writing draws you in to Haymitch’s story and refuses to let you go - even through the most horrifying depictions of the Capitol’s control over its citizens - you can’t help but read on. The way avocadomoon captures the nuances of each character’s sense of hopelessness, fear of retribution and their own methods of survival is riveting.
It’s interesting and surprising how well we connect with Haymitch, who is, at the start, someone who really doesn’t care about going against the Capitol. In the end, that’s exactly what makes following his journey to become a key member of the resistance feel so satisfying.
Finally, Haymitch’s budding respect - and later feelings for Effie are depicted in a way that doesn’t feel typical for fanfiction, but it’s hardly unsatisfying. There’s a beautiful subtlety to the way their relationship develops, and in particular, how Effie is developed. She isn’t just shoehorned into the role of ‘romantic interest’, but instead allowed to grow and develop on her own.
Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Speechless to anyone who wants to experience a story that will immerse them utterly into the world of Panem.

Hermione Granger appeared on the doorstep of number 12 Grimmauld Place on a Thursday morning, six months after she'd gone missing, with her hair cut short to her chin and a wound in her shoulder that looked like the result of a burning curse, half-cauterised and bleeding sluggishly. She was wearing a long skirt and jumper that nobody recognized, and she had cuts and scratches on her legs, as if she'd been running through a briar patch. There was a series of numbers on her left palm written in ballpoint pen - too long to be an address, but too short for a phone number - and her ears were pierced, which was notable only because (according to Ginny) they hadn't been, before. She was also five months pregnant.

"Just a guess," Benedict said slyly. Penelope just kept looking at him evenly, her face keen and alert, like she was working through something in the privacy of her head. "If Genevieve thinks highly of you, that is no small compliment. She has discerning tastes." "Baffling, then," Penelope shot back, "why she chose to entangle herself with you." In the early summer of 1815, Mr. Benedict Bridgerton finally looks up from his sketchbook, and sees someone very interesting indeed.
