Organization for Transformative Works
A month later and it is the Sunday of their dedication. Bella arises, a mass of nerves. As she nurses the boys, she tells them, “Now mommy ‘s a bit nervous about all this so, if you could be on your best behavior…”
Jake walks in and smiles. “They will be, and everything will be okay.”
They dress the boys in casual clothes. They will be charged into the gowns later so they stay clean.
When they pull up to the church, they find the Cullen’s, well almost all, waiting for then.
“We weren’t sure where to go so we waited on you.” Esme explains.
They lead them into the sanctuary and find the Quilene’s already there. They greet the Cullen’s politely and Bella releases the breath she had been holding. Charlie wheels Billy in and almost all of their extended family is gathered. They take up two aisles.
All the love and protection gathered around them has Bella smiling. That they would put aside their differences to see Samuel and Solomon dedicated, says a lot.
All their guests are greeted warmly by the rest of the congregation. No remarks about their cold or hot hands. If they are noticed, it isn’t commented on.
The organist starts to play and everyone settles in.
“I see we have a lot of guests today. Welcome one and all in the Lord’s Name. Let us pray.”
Bella looks around to see all their heads drop, the stone white ones and the russet ones. Her own pray is full of thanksgiving and relief.
After a few hymns, the parents of all the babies to be dedicated are invited to file up with their little ones. After a quick change, Bella and Jake bring the twins up.
They join three other couples.
“We are here to dedicate these boys and girls to God and to promise to support their parents as they strive to raise them up in the training and nurturing of the Lord.”
Bella looks out and sees her dad wipe a tear away. She smiles at him and the rest of her family.
“Jacob and Bella Black,” they step forward. He places his hands on the heads of Samuel and Solomon, “Lord we present Samuel and Solomon Black for dedication. We pray your blessings over them, that they would grow strong in you, growing up to be kind and gentle, wise and strong. That they would be servants of Yours and their communities and that they will raise their own children in the same way.” He concludes.
As Bella and Jake raise their heads, Bella’s eyes wide as she looks out over her family. A small gasp escapes because standing in the back wall of the sanctuary is the last remaining member of the Cullen side of their family. He smiles at her and she gratefully returns it.
“Jacob and Bella,” the minister returns her attention to himself, “Do you promise to raise these sweet boys to know and serve God? Do you promise to raise them in church and to pray with and for them? To give them the best in religious education? To love them in the love of the Lord?”
“Do you, their church family , family and friends, promise to support them in this? Do you promise to be a good example to the boys and loving support for Bella and Jacob?”
They return to their seats, watching and participating in the same ceremony with the other couples. Bella is distracted as she tries to pay attention.
“He came! He really came. He is really trying to keep the promise. I wonder what coming here cost him?”
After the ceremony, the sermon is on Godly Christian families. They sing an invitation hymn, have another prayer and are dismissed.
“Thank you so much for inviting us. It was a beautiful ceremony.” Carlisle says as they exit the church.
“You are quite welcome. I am glad you could all come.” She is grinning.”
“All,” Alice gets it,” Edward is here.”
“He was. He was standing in the back while they were being dedicated. I am not sure if he still is.”
“That is excellent.” Emmett says.
“Yes it is. We were hoping he would show up. Come back to our house, everyone. We are having a get together to celebrate.” Jake offers.
“Thank you Jacob. We would love too.”
