He made himself ready for the day before knocking on the door to the equally small room next to his. “Elsa?” He sighed, “Come on, the old man wants us to run defense drills again, remember?” Destane’s idea of defense training was using his magic to rain stones at them while they countered with whatever methods they could in the moment. It seldom ended without bruises. Or worse. Elsa tended to fair better given the sheer depth of her power, but she could also panic, which left her vulnerable. And vulnerable was never something you wanted to be in front of their master.

Moze’s Backstory Part 3

Moze’s Mom and Dad:  One day a traveler nearly drops dead of heat sickness and thirst pretty much on Amennirdis and Maatkare’s doorstep. [In “Al and Moze are bros” verses this is Cassim, and that is my baseline. In verses where they are not, it’s some dude.] Maatkare had seen this guy in some ambiguous visions and just knows he’s important to her somehow. As thanks for saving his life he stays with them for awhile and helps out around their house and garden etc. During this time he and Maatkare fall in love and Moze is conceived. They can have married or not, it doesn’t really matter.

At some point the guy feels like he ought to leave and seek his fortune but is conflicted. Maatkare senses that his destiny is not to stay and kind of pushes him out the door. She is pregnant, has Moze, and at some point dies of Disney mothers’ disease [specifics may vary]. Amennirdis lives a while longer but passes away a few years later. I have a vague idea that there was a village guy who was the Gaston to her Belle, and when she refused him, he arranged her death. Possibly via poison for irony. Moze is like four or five at the most when this happens. Not!Gaston blames the kid cause blah blah magic bad, demon child with weird eyes. Moze has telekinesis but nothing else magic-wise at this point. Most of the village turns on him and he’s locked up. But one or two Not!Jerks get him out and spirit him to Agrabah. He spends a few years on the streets and learns to use his magic to pick pockets. One day he picks Destane’s pocket. Destane is intrigued by the tiny magic child and is like sure kid come with me you can be my apprentice and there’ll be candy and it’ll be great. [Spoilers: It was not great.] So Destane essentially wanted to craft Moze into a weapon to further his own power and was abusive in various ways. Xerxes was already at the Citadel as Destane’s familiar but he gravitated to Moze and vice versa. Several years later Moze has decided he’s had enough and takes the gauntlet from among Destane’s things and uses it to kill him, and he then turns him into a Mamluk. The gauntlet takes all the flesh etc. of his right arm and a good chunk of his life force as payment for accessing its power. Wearing it is painful and using it for strong magic further strains his life energy. Moze plans to research his way around his limitations and eventually take over the Seven Deserts because [he has a caravan-load of issues] clearly he deserves ultimate power. And that’s it pre-meeting Aladdin. I’m fairly flexible. I’ll tweak details as needed depending on the thread. And of course AUs are a whole ‘nother thing.

Moze’s Backstory Part 1

I heard that the third movie of Aladdin, it was originally planned with Mozenrath as the villain and also as Aladdin's long lost brother but sadly the voice actor died and they made about the father, but what you believe Mozenrath's childhood would be aside from what we know in series? just curious

I moved this over from the Ask because this got very long and I’m going to split it into multiple posts.

Okay so this is actually a long game of fandom telephone. The creators of Moze’s character did confirm on an interview with a fansite that they considered making Moze the villain of what became KOT but it was decided it should be more of a standalone thing. Now because the final movie has the long lost family angle, and Moze and Al have similar character designs, a lot of people interpreted that meant Moze would also have been revealed to be Al’s brother. That part has never been confirmed one way or the other.

Do I enjoy playing with that? OMG YES. Any Al or Cassim RPers willing to do something in that vein message me. Because Moze doesn’t have a canon backstory beyond Destane being “like a father to [him]” I’m fine changing it up if it makes for a better thread. But I do have a baseline I work from.

So here’s how I came up with that: Now out-of-universe Moze’s name was created by smushing the names of his two creators together and then tweaking it. But I wanted to figure out how his parent or whoever would have come up with that name in-universe. Moze is pronounced the same as the Mose in “Moses” and “Mose” also means child in Ancient Egyptian. [There are other associated meanings but that was the one of interest to me.]

Since I was already thinking of Egyptian derivation I noticed, hey there’s an “ra” in there. Like the Egyptian god “Ra” [though pronounced differently]. And a “th” which brought to mind the god “Thoth.” Now in actual Egyptian names the Mose would go at the end. Like “Tutmose” “Child of Tut.” Ra is the most powerful of the Egyptian gods and Thoth is the god of learning and wisdom. So breaking it down we get something like [child][filler/conjunction?][power][wisdom]. (I am not suggesting this was intended or accurate to the actual Egyptian language in terms of being a plausible real life name BTW. This is the show that had Abis Mal. And Amin Dahmoula.)  But what we get is a fairly standard name meaning. “This is my child and when they grow up I wish for them these qualities” kind of thing. It also tickled me that a scary sounding name could have such a benign meaning. Okay. So lets say Moze is of Egyptian descent. Well there’s another Aladdin villain who has a whole Ancient Egypt vibe going on-Mirage. Back in ye olden fandom days there were some fanfic writers who said she was outright Moze’s mother, but I didn’t want it to be that direct since they never even met in canon. I did however like the idea of there being a connection.
