Sometimes punctuation is too hard infer what you will from these letters

when im writing, im GOING to be over-describing the hell out of each characters outfit. i will take no criticism. it's dress up time and this will have 0 impact on the story.

I don’t want to write novels.

I explicitly have always wanted to write very short, sweet, kooky stories (while exploring like 1000 other forms of art)

So The Writing Process is always in this studio is always a bit… off.

HOWEVER.

I started a notebook that is EXCLUSIVELY backstory work.

Cut work.

Edited out work.

“This story doesn’t see the light of day but I gotta get the outline in a place out of my head and somewhere I can easily refer to it later” work.

“Doesn’t have to make sense. Just has to work” work.

Characters are back in my head.

I feel like I am home.

Anyway take this idea!

Writing on my computer: "no, this doesn't work, this is bad, should I abandon this fic or perhaps the hobby of writing altogether?"

how is your writing process? do you plan the whole fic before writing it?

Ha, I wish I had the patience for that.

I usually get an idea, obsess over it, share with yaz and then get the boost to write it.

Most of the time, I have no idea where it’ll take me. I only had one WIP fully outlined, chapter by chapter, and I might not write it now anyway.

I have a general timeline for my bigger fic and roughly know where and how I want to end it, but no chapter by chapter plan. Usually after I post, I think of what’s my next big plot and if I can squeeze any subplots/new developments. Most things happen by accident and are unplanned.

Bad Writing Tip #1

If your story is lagging, it probably needs some humor. Mention ducks; they are the best possible creature to lighten the mood and drive your story forward.

1. Where do you typically get your ideas?

I answered this in a pervious ask, but it should be the post right below this one.

2. When you’re writing a new story, what is the one thing you need to know before you can start?

Where I am going. If I don’t know that I cannot plan literally anything about a story, even something as simple as my prompt fills, I have an end goal in mind.

This isn’t always a physical destination, even something as simple as, I want to get this idea across, can be my end goal. I just need one to write.

5. How do you know when a story is “done”?

I usually make outlines that keep me on track as I can ramble on forever if given the chance, but I usually consider a story done when I have nothing left to say. This can either be because I’ve reached the end of my thoughts on something or because a story has reached a natural conclusion where taking it further makes no sense.

As I mentioned in a previous ask, and as mentioned above, I keep an end goal in mind and when I reach it, that’s the end. That was my purpose for writing, and where I wished to end up, so that’s where it stops. Everything I write leads up to this end goal.
