a/n: An AU where the dragons didn't die. As in, no dragons die. They just keep growing, unless there are killed.

・The Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne, your husband, had been bonded to Balerion long before you were married
・Baelor had always had a fascination of the Black Dread. But was always told no by his father: "It is too dangerous, why not pick one of the eggs. They will hatch soon!"
・One night, when he was 15, sleep had evaded him. Baelor felt a strange buzzing inside his body, a pull. An invisible pull that Baelor couldn't deny.
・Sneaking his way to the Dragonpit was no easy task. He evaded the guards, and eventually he got to the dragonpit (p.s., he lives on Dragonstone)
・Walking out onto the platform, his heart was beating so fast, he swore it would explode.
・However, that pull he felt was becoming stronger, as the largest dragon came forth from the shadows.
・Balerion huffed, sending a warm puff of air against Baelor's face.
・It was a story he told people how he bonded with the largest dragon in Westeros.
・When Baelor first introduced you to Balerion, you were incredibly apprehensive. Your hands were sweaty, your stomach was filled with butterflies, you had to remind yourself to breathe.
・When you touched the dragon's skin, it was quite warm, scaly with scars yet almost smooth in other places. And whenever you rub his head, he practically purs.
"Ziry lik ao," Baelor had whispered.
You side-eyed him, and he chuckled.
"It means 'he likes you.'"
"Oh, well, tell him I like him too-"
・Baelor loves taking you flying. He likes when the hair on your head swishes in the wind, the way you clutch him tighter.
・Wherever Balerion lands, is where you'll be for a couple of hours.
・You two lay in the grass, looking up at the bright sky and passing clouds.
・Balerion lays behind you both, falling asleep with a wing protectively around you two.
・It's like you're laying in front of a building, Balerion is that big.
・Since the bond between riders and their dragons is so strong, Balerion knows how important you are. You're never in danger with Balerion around (sometimes he treats you like a hatchling and brings you food to eat, nudges you when you're in front of him, and sometimes he whines when he can't see you.)

・To best bond with Balerion, a person would have to be a leader. Or someone who is used to responsibility.
・Someone passionate, yet open-minded (Aries, Aquarius), who stands up for what they believe in and doesn't take anyone's crap.
・An intimidating person (Scorpio), a planner (Virgo), and/or someone who reacts first to situations i.e., the phone ringing, someone at the door etc.
・Aegon the Conquorer is an obvious example, but Daenys and Aerea would fit into the responsibility and open-minded aspect.
・And in my opinion, Viserys wasn't bonded with Balerion. The dragon was too old and must have thought Viserys was Aegon hence letting him ride/command Balerion.

・Those that would bond with him need to have a coldness within their heart. As cruel as it sounds, it's true. The Cannibal is known to eat from its own species.

・In his youth, this would be a different story.
・He has fathered many dragons in his time; some with Meraxes, others with Vhagar. Some on his own...
・But in his older age...
・He would not notice. Not at all.
・With his size, he listens to the Valyrian commands. But he doesn't interact with many other dragons.
・So when a dragonling tries to court ol' Balerion, she cannot quite get his attention.

and if he does figure out what's going on, all he does is give a large chuff
・He can't be bothered with coupling anymore.

・Would hear them out. Let them court her a few times...
・Doing her best to keep an open-mind.
・But there would be a bigger chance that they end up forming a friendship. Not anything to do with romance or partnership.
・But I can see Meraxes being a mentor to younger dragons
・She's adventerous. Loves the outdoors (and if the dragonling thinks they are still courting, they may give up once they realise just how much Meraxes loves flying. Their smaller wings get too tired!)
・And she isn't about to slow down or stop for them

・No matter who wanted to court her, she would put them through trials.
・It didn't matter who was small or large, if you could pass her tests, then you had her respect (and that was a big thing)
・So, the youngling would be tested on:
How far they could fly
Their awareness on the ground & in the sky
How fast they were
How quickly they could pick up training
Reactions and reaction time
・Since the smaller dragon would only pass a few of these tests, Vhagar would deny them.
・However; she wouldn't disregard them completely.
・There would still be a 'keep on training and I'll let you try when you're older' type of vibe

・Gives the dragon 1. chance to save themselves before he comes and eats them.

・It takes a lot of courage and a little stupidity to try and court a male dragon with such a ...fiery personality.
・If the dragonling has their own fiery spirit, then they have a chance of ... survival. And with that, she may catch his attention as well.
・It really depends on his mood.
・It could be a grumpy x sunshine relationship - not romantic though. I think he would rather have a friendship...since he is mated with Silvering

・Finds it charming. But automatically sees the younger/smaller dragon as a baby. Her motherly side comes out full force.
・Does not hurt the wanna-be suitor. She cleans him, puts him to bed. Slowly purring so the lil boy feels safe.
・But he's back tomorrow.
・And the next day after that.
・And oops! She accidentally has another child...
・However, the dragonling is deathly loyal to Silverwing. He would act like a protector, which makes Vermithor chuff.
・Wherever she goes, so does the smaller male. Unless it is far away, then he has to rest. His little wings cannot handle too much flying.
・And so, Silverwing would wait until he was ready to fly again.
𝑫𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑴𝑭𝒀𝑹𝑬
・Oh Dreamfyre Dreamfyre Dreamfyre.
・One of the most beautiful, dreamy dragons there ever was.
・However, she is constantly underestimated by other dragons.
・And the lil dragon thought she would be an easy one to court.
・He pranced up to her, a fish in his mouth and laid it near her.
・With a grunt, he pushed it towards her with his nose, and stepped back a few feet. Sitting patiently.
・Shifting her head, she cocked her head and said nothing.
・Day after day, there would be fish and more fish. A whole pile just for her.
On the 7th day, she beckoned him closer and roared:
"I DO NOT LIKE FISH!"

・Poor Caraxes loves the attention
・There aren't many dragons that accept him. So when he's being sought after, it makes him feel all fuzzy inside
・But he tries to act cool!
・Doesn't like to come off as needy. Only shows that side to one particular dragon ...
・But when another being chooses to spend time with him! Oh my...he starts to open up. Quite quickly... Soon it turns into him being the one trying to court the other dragon
・Caraxes shows them his favourite items, tokens and such. He keeps them in a pile so he can wrap around them at night.
・Except the courtier didn't realise how weird he was...and backed off
𝑴𝑬𝑳𝑬𝒀𝑺
・She thinks it's a joke or some prank
"Seasmoke, I swear if you put that child up to this-"
・No, it wasn't Seasmoke, it was actually Sunfyre who was first approached by the little dragon.
・But he sent them off to court Meleys because "she was much older and without companionship" (he made the small dragon swear he would say anything!)
・When the smaller dragon clambered up to Meleys; who was resting on a rock in the sun. He could barely speak...
"Oh you look busy I'll just-"
"What do you want, child?" she said in a growl
"Uh, um, I was wondering if I could spend some time with you..."
・Meleys chuffed so avidly that one would think she was having a fit.
・The little dragonling stood there near-shivering
"If you are quiet. You may stay," Meleys rumbled. Then she put her head back down to catch the warmth.
