This is the basic recipe, however the one I had was from Bar Taco in Stamford, CT, (warning, that link has autoplay music) and they made their own thyme infused simple syrup and stuck a sprig of thyme in the glass as well. It was a glorious thing to all of my senses... the smell of it before it hit my tongue, the wondrous flavors... Lord, I loved that drink. The Port Chester, a gin based drink I also had there, was lovely as well, but the Old Thymer has my heart.

Branching out

As the year comes to a close, I’ve decided to spice things up by heading out of the city to see what goes on. Last night I went up to Stamford (that’s Connecticut for all you die-hards), home to lots of hedge funds and investment banks. I met some friends who live up there at a place called Bar Taco (they have a few locations). It’s a casual spot that can get pretty rowdy at times. Last night was pretty mellow, but there were some cute guys there and that’s all that matters when you’re looking for Mr. Right.

I sat at the bar before my friends arrived and ordered a mojito. Then I met the bartender and we started to chat.

Recipe for romance…

Try something new. Switch up your routine and go out someplace totally new. If you like a certain bar you should go back, but always add a new place to your “going out” routine. By trying someplace new, chances are you’ll meet a totally different crowd of people and within that crowd could be your Mr./Miss Right.

On a side note, I thought I’d give you a few of my own insights about traveling outside of your “typical” comfort zone…

1.     A new pool. Although the city is a big place, there is always a chance of running into someone you know. But if you head outside of the city, your chance of a run-in drops (which is a good thing in my book).

2.     Ride the rails. The train is a great place to meet people. You never who is getting on (or off), which could add a little spice to the night.

3.     Embrace adventure! It’s just fun going someplace totally new.

So how would I rate my overall night out of the city? Shaken, stirred or straight up? 100% shaken, no doubt about it. Without Conor even knowing my night’s plan, I was already “trying something new.” And he was right… New places bring new opportunities and new experiences. While I might have not met a man, I did have fun and discovered a whole new area to go out in. For sure, I’ll be back on that train for a night out in Stamford.
