These prints of the same photograph, created about forty years apart, encapsulate Richard Benson’s driving artistic motivations. They depict a person he loved, his wife, Barbara. They are made by radically different processes: printing in a darkroom by means of chemistry, and printing from a computer file with paper and inks. Viewed together, they invite us to consider the myriad decisions involved in making anything.
