Classic works from two Baroque masters: Johann Sebastian Bach (1685- 1750) and Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (1678- 1741). The Italian taught Bach many things, and so several people in the comments section have already noted the difficulty of pitting these two against each other. While Bach is my all-time favourite composer, it’s foolishness to downplay the work of Vivaldi, whose legacy was preserved in Bach’s transcriptions and compositions. I enjoy Vivaldi’s light touch, and his virtuoistic passages for the violin. I also think that while The Four Seasons deserves popularity, he wrote many better works. His Stabat Mater, Salve Regina, Flute Concerto in D, and the concertos that Bach transcribed, are all masterpieces from his hand. So I enjoy hearing both men side by side.
