About Pipistrelles
Pipistrelles , Demonstrated below by a lovely member of Ruppell’s Pipistrelle , Are Small, insectovorous old-world Bats , Notable for their erratic Flight patterns. Pipistrelles, Aside from the Oddities of the Hammerheaded bat (Not of the same family), False Vampire Bat (also not of the same group ) , the Northern Ghost Bat, and the iconic Common Vampire Bat , Are among the most commonly represented bats in media. Though media tends to fixate on the shape of bats rather than actually showing them, in order to play up the ‘ fear’ angle of what is objectively one of the most helpful and sweet groupings of mammals in the world (Chiroptera)

In honor of this momentous occasion, here's another bat info post. I know I've been slacking on these.
The Southern Yellow Bat (Lasiurus ega / Dasypterus ega)
Living in regions such as Texas, other portions of the US, and Mexico, these sleepy-looking bats roost commonly in trees (notably the fronds of palms) and enjoy munching on flying insects. They are a solitary and migratory microbat species, meeting up to court and mate in the autumn months and produce an average of two to three pups in June.
There is not ample study on this species, but sources suggest that the Southern Yellow Bat is one of least concern as far as endangerment. However, this may change as issues of over-harvesting palms and utilizing pesticides may threaten their way of life.
