i follow neil gaiman on here and i see a lot of people who send him messages falling over themselves addressing him like "excuse me hello sorry to bother you our holy lord mr neil gaiman sir" like they're medieval peasants trying to not get decapitated by a king, and it just strikes me as very pedestal-y. seems like one of those classic situations where one day if he does something slightly askew from their expectations they will either prostrate themselves defending something questionable or be absolutely crushed that he's not perfect. idk i just think if you respect and like someone you shouldn't set them up for failure and set yourself up to be disappointed in them.
