With vintage retro synths that send a shivering jolt through the whole of our bodies, DOV’s Be Your Lover launches its way into our hearts, mesmerizing us with its nebulous production and murky vocals, so nostalgically melting and foggy intoxicating. The striking song comes from DOV, a Brooklyn-based, Tel Aviv-born queer pop artist, who’s been preparing to make an indelible mark on the electronica and synthpop scene with his very first EP. He’s already making resounding waves with this second single and the title track from that record. Detuned pastel synths and effervescent texture swells ebb and tide throughout the brooding yet soothing beauty, on which DOV sings tenderly and poignantly in polyphonic layers. DOV says of the song, "'Be Your Lover' is about unfulfilled love. I wrote the song about an experience I had meeting someone when I visited a different country, with whom I totally fell in love. The whole time, though, I felt like the distance, an ocean apart, would keep this love from becoming a realty ("I will never hold another, cast out to the open sea"). It's about that strong feeling of losing something you never actually had, that potential to meet someone, fall in love, then ask yourself if you should leave everything behind and take that leap to be with them." Be Your Lover might be about unfulfilled love, but our ears and hearts are endlessly satiated by this dream of a song from DOV. It follows DOV’s debut single Save, featuring fellow Israeli vocalist TESHA, also a gorgeously haunting electronic sojourn, with a willowy blustering restlessness trickling through its organic folk instrumentals.
