Going to see Deafheaven and Beast Patrol at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight!
The three founding members of the Brooklyn-based indie rock sensation Beast Patrol, Vanessa Bley (lead vocals and guitar), Robert Granata (guitar) and Anthony Marchesi (bass) met while performing at an anti-frakcing concert. Pedal Power back in 2011. After the release of Bley's solo EP, in early 2012, the trio of Bley, Marchesi and Granata decided to form Beast Patrol -- and they released their debut EP Fierce and Grateful later that year to praise from Rolling Stone.
After about a year of extensive touring, including a Lollapalooza spot, Jacob Read-Harber was recruited to play drums and further flesh out the band's sound. And with Read-Harber on drums, the band went into the studio to record the band's forthcoming sophomore EP, Unarm Yourself, which is slated for a June 10 release through Space Camp Radio Records.
"Distant Grandeur" is the first single and video off the album, and the song is a gorgeous, shimmering and slow burning ballad, of which the band has specialized in but with a gently swirling bit of psychedelia and thoughtful lyrics sung with a haunting bit of nostalgia at the core. And the official video which was done by several artist to collaborating to create it was filmed in parts of New York State by Trevor Sage-El and Phil Knott; directed by Knott and Beast Patrol's Robert Granata; edited by visual artist Max Gleason; and stars models Ned Shatzer and Taylor Warren in a video that's equally haunting and nostalgic, as it looks on back on a lost love in a way that should feel intimately familiar.
