so i wrote a thing about mrs danvers and beatrice because they have had me in a chokehold for coming up three years :) it's called 'the dark keeps us safe' and you can find it here

it's an ich pov of different ways she could discover mrs danvers' first because beatrice calls her that (and also an extra beatrice pov for two of them). a walk around manderley at night, a birthday wish in the library, another emotional moment in the library, and a love letter in the morning room

Before Bee could finish her sentence, before I had good and well processed her words, she had been cut off by Mrs Danvers’ hand, clamped over her mouth. It had happened so swiftly she had to stabilize herself, putting her hands on Mrs Danvers’ waist.

I was speechless, too. Never would I have expected Mrs Danvers to act in such a way, so human-like. Like any school-girl would, had a friend been on the verge of spilling her deepest secret. Like if a classmate were to tell the boy you fancied about your affection for him.

I was so utterly confused, but Beatrice sounded relieved. I saw her move her hands to Mrs Danvers’ cheeks. “There you are.”

Mrs Danvers let her head fall back against the library door, turned it to the side. It was not a smile, per se, but I could see her frown disappear, could see the corners of her mouth turn up slightly. “Please just get this over with, Bea,” she said, looking her in the eye.

This whole encounter was so strange. I did realize in that moment, for the first time in all these months, that they must have known each other for many, many years, long before I ever arrived at Manderley, and that they must have an extensive history of shared memories. Of Rebecca, of Maxim, of the staff and the grounds and the dogs and the rooms and the parties and th—

It was difficult to see out of the windows now. The world around them had turned to grey. Danny was sure it must be cold, but Beatrice had left the car running, and even without it her thundering heart would have kept her warm. Danny let go of her bag. It slid from her hands and landed near her feet with a thump. She paid no mind to the noise. Keeping her eyes on Beatrice’s stunned face, she took off her gloves, one after the other. She reached out her bare hands for one of Beatrice’s, pulling the glove off her fingers and enclosing Beatrice’s hand in hers.

“Let us not worry about what we may or may not achieve in the future,” Danny said softly. “We are here, and there is no need for pretence.”

She watched as Beatrice took off her other glove, stuffing it into the pocket in the car door. Beatrice turned towards her, her knees knocking against the gearstick, and raised her hand to Danny’s face. She closed her eyes, gasping as Beatrice’s fingers rested against her jaw and pulled her in for a kiss. She responded readily, reaching out her hands, touching Beatrice in whatever way she could. A few  moments later, Beatrice pulled back, panting. Danny put her hand against Beatrice’s cheek. 

“If you could wish for anything in the world,” she began, “what would you wish for?”

Beavers and the toad abode

One sunny day, Bea finds a toad in the garden and rushes in. The only one who is there is Danny and Bea jumps at her.

MRS DANVERS LOOK AT THIS ABSOLUTE UNIT
