The Hidebehind is a North American fearsome critter. No consensus exists as to its appearance, but it is generally depicted as large and covered in hair. It is nocturnal, and can easily conceal itself behind trees, no matter how thick they are.
Hidebehinds were said to attack lumberjacks, dragging them back to their lair to feast on their entrails. The creature was blamed for the disappearances of loggers.
Hidebehinds have an aversion to alcohol, so one way to repel them is to be constantly inebriated.
